There was a dev blog where they went into detail about how everything is simulated physically according to the intrinsic nature of components, not using predefined lookup tables like every other sim does. Its so cool :D
That's the beauty with BeamNG. Also, their throttle controller model doesn't use look-up tables compared to other Simulators. The suspensions being all physically simulated and soft-body makes it possible for BeamNG to place potholes, tarmac patches, bumps/speed bumps or any uneven surfaces just to stress test it's simulation. BeamNG could take a full laser scanned map of any real world location and wouldn't need to cut through hoops to fit it's physics model, that's how good the suspensions are.

Good thing some modders are also porting assetto corsa mods into this game so we might be getting more some time in the future
I freakin' love BeamNG. I've been making my own mods for it, which I haven't done for any other game in a long time. It helps that they used the open source COLLADA model format and data files that can be edited with a regular text editor
First thoughts on this game... I picked it up because of seeing this video. Killer graphics and the course you drive here is very realistic. The engine sound is spot on. The truck physics seem near perfect except I feel there's one problem. The sim punishes you when using anything near full throttle. The faster you go, the dartier the front becomes. Any minor steering input at high speeds just multiplies into correction after correction, which evolves into this unrealistic fishtailing that would easily be controlled in the real world but not here. Once the rear end kicks out at higher speeds, no matter how you compensate, it swings the other way and starts a bad cycle until you either spin or flip. The sand sections are worse. The front points to where you want it to go but the rear feels like it's driving over ice. After many spins and flips I finally managed to finish my first lap at 5:35. I felt like if I didn't have to drive at half throttle most of the time, you could knock 30 seconds of that easily. (I have not looked into seeing if you can change the setup or dynamics yet.) Other than this one gripe, this game is fantastic. They need to make a bunch of courses for this off road model.
It's not to do with the physics it's the fact that BeamNG does not exaggerate FFB like other Simulators. Most Simulators exaggerate what you feel on your wheel to make up for what you can't feel on your butt/body by throwing forces like wheel/tyre deflections, suspension travel or tyre flex which is straight up unrealistic. Some do it to the point you can't even spin out with a high powered race car in low gears. The physics are still the most realistic of any game.
I wholeheartedly agree Jim, a seriously underestimated title, on a motion rig, nothing beats it. My promise to you I guarantee. May do some footage on it myself actually...

The new update has actually improved the tire model, which has really improved how cars drive on pavement!
Fake info, there was no such thing on the update changelog.
@NicOz Beam tends to not mention everything in changelogs, if you compare pre and post update you can tell pretty quickly
@@lordjuvenile9068 I felt no change and I have 2500 hours on BeamNG with a steering wheel. I'm sure they would mention something this big at least briefly.
@0:05 You can't sneak a Korone Inugami sound bite past me editor
Aah that 1nsane menu music at the end of the video gave me super nostalgia, nice touch and omage to that legendary offroad game.
Like James May, "keep your thumbs outside of the wheel" is the only thing I know about off-roading, and it's brilliant advice for BeamNG.
Re: Online leaderboards
Would be really nice to have. However, due to the moddable nature of BeamNG it would be trivial to cheat in an almost endless number of ways. Lots of the games code is scripts that are user accessible and can be modified. Vehicle files can be modified, maps can be modified, objects can be placed. etc etc. This is before we get to traditional cheating (like in F1 esports etc) and RAM hacks.
So its not going to be so easy for the devs to do. Steam Friend list leaderboards or discord group leaderboards should be doable on an honour system though. Would be super cool.
I'm betting that scenario was pretty fun - how can it fail to be, when even the truck is grinning like a maniac?
RBR cars and Tracks + BeamNG = Gold
The world needs this
To be honest the RBR physics is way closer to the real thing, especially on tarmac. But the visual damage (soft body physics) is cool in BeamNG.
@@jendabekCZ It's because Beam devs are still working on the node-beam tyre models for a wide array of surfaces over the years. They're even working on surfaces more than any Simulator and these things will take years to get to irl accuracy with lots of research. If they used the same Empirical model that games like RBR are using they'd have been ahead on tarmac years ago.
Snowrunner deformation + BeamNG = Gold. Although I don't think Snowrunners deformation is that realistic.
@@kak8895 If developing physics better than in a 2004 game takes 10 years or so (BeamNG has been released in 2015), then I am not sure it is the right way to go. But it is their decision for sure - I don't know what their priorities are.
This man deserves 1 million subs, let's all help him to achieve this milestone!
Can't wait to play this properly, haven't had a PC for over 10years, when I last played this it was called rigs of rods 👀😂
Wow I remember the drag races and mudding and truck pulls on there 😮
@@eyesturnedeverinward I'm into trucks so it made sense, but Gavril I think it's called which is on Beam, were insanely detailed and had such good physics models, it was great
This game needs to introduce a cost for replacing damaged parts. Setting records would actually mean something if you have something to loose.
This is by far the most realistic offroad racing I have ever seen.
Dakar and SCORE should be lining up to make games based off of this
Jimmer having fun=Use viewers having fun watching Jimmer.
0:05 was that wild Korone?
Didn't know you were a Korone fan, Jimmy. pretty cool
Its crazy to think at one time this game had just a single flat plane to drive on with random stuff to pulverize your vehicle.
Id love to see this in a full motion sim rig set to max
The beam developers are ones of the people I respect the most. Paired with Wube who made Factorio. Best of the best. Definitely looking forward to more of this!
Beam NG is so great for offroad driving! Both the fast stuff like this, but also the slow crawling. Beam NG could make a rally game, or even a great competitor for SnowRunner if they just decided to add the gameplay. Hopefully they will ;)
Beamng with its physics engine is an awesome simulator in every aspect. Track racing? There you go! Sequential transmission, slick tires, racetracks (the only thing missing here is more official racing scenarios and realistic racecar setups like Civetta Scintilla GT3) Drifting? Easy! Get an RWD car, a good steering wheel and off you go! Or just car modding? Tons of parts and settings for that
didnt expect to hear korone on this channel. based editor-chan
Beam NG is just the best... awesome video, Jimmer!
Scenario stream when? Carried me through having covid over christmas last year, would love to see some more of those, they're fantastic entertainment
I think I remember the live stream where you tried this. I was playing alongside you and managed to just squeeze out that sub 5:30 time before you, but then you completely smashed my time once you got used to it.
Love following with my own wheel and seeing it being almost completely lined up to your driving haha
All the open desert and Jimmer gets caught by the only excavator around for a 1000km.
I’m just waiting for the day when they host legit races, imagine doing the 24hrs of Lemans or Nurburghring In this game! 💀
the aluminum can crinkle when he runs over the muffler is golden
I live about 45 minutes outside of Johnson valley. The King of The Hammers event is legendary.
Now i imagine how cool would be play AC or Dirt Rally with those crash physics
I would be crashing a lot? Yes, but it would be a happy crash
Been watching Beamng content since probably around 2014/2015 and I still love it just as much
I hear 1nsane soundtrack in the background and this scenario for sure captures that Nostalgic feeling in that game!
I really find it very hard to find rally mods on this game. I do found one dedicated rally map on this game which is pretty small but very good. It's called douglas rally 2019.
15:50 thank you for so plainly saying this. I do a lot of real life off road stuff and this simulator is fucking gold.
The physics are still the most realistic of any game.
are you playing with a controller? you really need a wheel to drive in this game
I wholeheartedly agree Jim, a seriously underestimated title, on a motion rig, nothing beats it. My promise to you I guarantee. May do some footage on it myself actually...
Beaming is a hilarious simulator. No goals. Just laugh. Best money for a game by far. If u have the pc for it
Also jimmy tip for ya if u use Cocpit view adjust the FOV when the FOV is larger (for me atleast mine is set at 72.3 ) gives a better understanding of what the vehicle is doin. Cheers mate all love
5:12 that parking spot is quite genius. 🤣🤣
I can’t wait to have them get a little bit better at circuit races and endurance racing scenarios.
Unexpected Korone noises
WE 100% NEED a rally mode for Beamng
Jimmy: were in top gear, no idea what our ground speed is, but it cant be too far off what the speedo says.
Speedo: somewhere between 100-125mph, i suppose.
One of my favourite motorsports is trophy truck racing because well it’s absolutely incredible and they have massive V8’s and who doesn’t like that but I’d love to see an even bigger map of that style stuff with more trucks more everything really as it’s pretty rare to get that sort of stuff in games
There is a pretty good community for offroad stuff on here. There beam wheeler (nix) and rough country crawling for well, rock crawling lol. There's BDR for desert racing stuff as well. Tons of stuff out there and tons of potential for this game 😊
Jimmer: this game and car, 100% force feedback on a direct drive wheel, in VR...make it happen
Hear me out: NFS Prostreet with Beam physics
needs fluid/mud simulation. would be so sick.
