This is the project I've been putting off for a while and apparently will never get fixed. The Jeep 4.0 has oil leak issues from every location it can leak from. I make my attempt to fix all of the issues, but one will need some more attention.
Thanks for watching!

Finally a guy who realistically shows the dread I feel when tackling the same type of projects. You want it done, need it done, but you know it's gonna suck! Not like they show on TV in the pretty garages with new looking engines.
THANK YOU.... I'm not a professional never claim to be. I just like to show whats real and when S#!t goes wrong I show it too so people can see what can and might happen so they can be ready when doing their own work.
I would have rolled new bearings in, and replaced the oil pump with a hi volume version. FYI, I've seen dozens of vid on this procedure, yours is the best so far, great camera work.
It's a stock engine. Why would you need a high-volume oil pump?
Me too
Excellent videography and lighting of the important stuff.
That's one nice rust free XJ. I'm chasing leaks too, now I have one up front.
I just did the oil filter adapter on a 96 Cherokee, and there are a couple more o-rings inside the assembly.
I thought I had a rear main seal leak also but I did the oil filter adapter and the leak stopped. Alot of guys do rear main seals and find out later it was the oil filter adapter.
You've gotten great videos, no half ass repairs!!!
The factory used blue loctitie on the oil filter adapter torx bolt... the reason why it's so hard to remove.
If you got rear main leak. First run dye check dip stick 0:37
Devin Townsend Rocks!!!
You are 1 million% correct!!!
Did you know that the oil filter adapter has two more o rings on the shaft, it's like a plunger, you push it out and there's two small o rings, other than that, great video
I learned after doing the main one that it could have had the others. Oh well I guess. It's not leaking and I surely won't be messing with it anytime soon. Thanks!
Nice video 👍
Good video, but you were only suppose to use the RTV on the seal ears, not the outside of half of the rear main seal. You can use dish soap to help it slide in easier, but that's it.
Yep learned this one the hard way. Took 3 tries but I finally got it. Made a follow-up video on it. I try to keep everything open and honest for people watching so they know what to expect on a project. It's been bone dry since the last fix. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment!!
Nice video! I’m getting ready to do the same thing. Any video of the torque converter bolts? I use wix, too, but heard the mopar filter helps build more pressure. I installed that in my 99, and it seemed to help. I’ll be replacing the bearings and the pump to help with the oil pressure too. Hope you get that leak fixed. Hope I don’t run into that, too. Afraid I will. Thinking now of getting a new oil pan. Could it have been the RTV?
Torque converter bolts were tight. I'm fairly confident my leak is the small portion of the oil pan gasket that fits into the rear main cap. I had a heck of a time trying to get it to stay lined up. Worst part of the whole project was just the amount of grease and oil chunks falling all over me and the floor.
good video ! Say how did you easily get the oil pan out ? Looks so simple, but it is a pita !
Thanks!!! 6.5 inch lift makes for plenty of room to drop the pan.
You will know in 2 weeks if it worked :)
Forgot the o-ring on the adapter under the torks bolt
The what?.?.? Hahaha I was only aware of the main adaptor to block seal. Everything checked out ok with no new leaks around it so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I just did the exact same thing and ended up with the exact same leak. About to start round 2. I read the manual and you're supposed to use thread lock 515 on the rear main. I was thinking maybe that's where i went wrong. I'm going to try to reuse the oil pan gasket. I didnt use much rtv the first time. Also read that the valve cover can often be the culprit on these leaks... That's next.
Check out the follow-up video! I found my issue changed a few things doing it and im absolutely bone dry now.

Stay cool bud you can get this. Check out my follow up video. Took me 3 times. You'll get it.
Hi I did this 2 times on my yj and still not rite. New oil pan gasket rear main seal 2 time it leak a lot of oil now what to do nex Ned. Help😅😅😅
Check out my follow up video. It took me 3 times to get mine right. Most videos on this topic are lies. I keep it honest and I explain what went wrong.
Me too 🤦🤦🤦
@@nextweeksadventureand 3 time you install NEW GASKET?
@@juanpowet5543 yes because i was worried it could have gotten damaged and wanted to eliminate the possibility.
you could have done a remote filter never deal with that stock crap again
