- In the 19th and early 20th centuries, many residents of Chettinad emigrated to South and Southeast Asia, particularly Ceylon and Burma. By 2010, only 74 villages remained of the original 96. According to Guy Trebay in "Houses of the Holy" (New York Times, 17 November 2010), Chettinad originally consisted of 96 villages and now[when?] consists of a network of 73 villages and 2 towns forming clusters spread over a territory of 1,550 km2 in the Districts of Sivagangai and Pudukottai in the State of Tamil Nadu. It finds itself in the UNESCO nomination for sites of historic and cultural value.

2 weeks before only I went to Karaikudi for colleague marriage. After finishing that function went to this kanadukathan palace...... Amazing... Superb palace... கட்டிட கலைக்கு சிறந்த உதாரணம் காரைக்குடி வீடுகள் முக்கிய பங்கு வகிக்கிறது
அருமை என்ன அழகிய மாளிகை தமிழர்கள் எப்படி வாழ்ந்து இருக்கிறார்கள்.
மிகவும் பெருமையாக உள்ளது.. இதுபோல் இனிமேல் முடியுமா..?நிச்சயம் பாதுகாக்க வேண்டும்.
கொழும்பில் பல நகரத்தார் தலைசிறந்த தொழிலதிபர்களாகவும், இலங்கையின் பல பாகங்களிலும் கதிரேசன் கோவில்களை உருவாக்கி இன்று வரைக்கும் சிறப்பாகப் பராமரித்துக்கொண்டு வருகின்றார்கள்.

Due to aggressive suppression on Brahmins, even they also dispersed to western countries. They had very nice agraharam community similar to the chettiar community. Their houses also used to start from one end of the street and extend in the back to next street which would next lead to rivers .

Chettiar are native of Indonesian but due Muslim community changes, these Chettiar are migrated to India's seashore t for living. But Chettiars are habitated for migration and foreign merchants for doing wood business. They are getting good profit and building big house for their ladies to live inside this house only.

Sorry for your ignorance. When there is agriculture activity there will be dalit community and there will be suppression. Chettinad villages are dry / no agriculture and dalit population is very minimum.
