      Be pissed at the people who sent them? Undoubtedly. But are the soldiers excused simply because they were following orders? Not really, I wouldn't say they are evil or what they did was completely in the wrong. But they were not heroes, they were not protecting their countries interests properly. I would neither spit on them nor salute them, it's a grey area and i'll treat it as such.
      It is both a crime to spit on a gay soldier and viet vet, it's assault and the circumstance doesn't change the outcome.

      Had a soldier who was transgender in my platoon. I was up at JBER and despite being one of the best soldiers we had, they went out of their way there to kick the soldier out. Pissed me off. He gets schooled by a few republicans on the show. I also think he gets crap for the Al-Qaeda comparison later in that episode. The Tea Party was a circus though (IMO). The character is supposed to be a republican, but I wasn't convinced. President Glen Allen Walken would have walked circles around this guy.

    • @savokgrim4131
      @savokgrim4131 6 років тому +3

      Just to be clear, I did not agree with that comparison. I am not a huge fan of the tea party, but even I know that comparison is extreme. Hell Antifa and the rest of the anti-speech morons fall closer to that description than the Tea Party ever will. Comparing people and groups you disagree with to Taliban, Al-Qaeda, Hitler, Nazis and the KKK are the rage nowadays.
      I wasn't implying that it was a "bipartisan concession to a conservative" audience, it was clear from the get go what Sorkin's intention was in making this show. His political leanings showed here as well as in West Wing (less in the latter than in Newsroom.). I was simply pointing out that there were consequences for his actions, and that there were several characters throughout the show that leaned right and weren't bat-shiz cray. Now, I don't agree with the portrayal regardless, but I thought it was obvious what side of things the show focused on. Had it been conservative, it would have done the same to the other side. Either way, I am sure it was done to create some sort of drama or conflict.
      I liked their idea of being uncompromising in the news, and instead of claiming to be fair and balance, they called a spade a spade. Well, supposedly. Their idea and the line was better than their execution. There is a lot wrong with the show, and the propaganda is strong. I believe that was the point of his SNL-esque monologues.
      Now, I think I may not be explaining myself well, but I wasn't disagreeing with you. I myself lean to the right in the political spectrum.

    • @savokgrim4131
      @savokgrim4131 6 років тому +3

      Chrisko1492 You are all over the place, and there is a lot to cover and unpack here. I will only point out the obvious, and let someone else continue the brainwashing with some of our propaganda.
      "Where is the threat? No one threatens the US. No one could actually attack the U.S. All ,,attacks" in US history are singular terrorist attacks. No one is actually in danger."
      You claim no one could actually attack the US, despite the fact that several countries could if they wanted to. Now, whether it would successful or not is a different matter, but they could. Russia and China are capable. You should double check the part where said no one threatens the US, because several countries have. I would also like to point out that several of our allies are capable and could attack too, but why would they? Right? One of our biggest allies was an enemy once, but that was along time ago. I digress...
      Now I know that I am brainwashed, being an American and all, but the War of 1812 and Japan's on attack on Pearl Harbor automatically destroy the rest of your statement there. Those are examples of two countries that attacked the U.S. on its own territory, and get this, they are two of "All ,,attacks" in US history..." unfortunately, those were not terrorist attacks. Oh, and American lives were "actually" in danger. Crazy right?
      My country is flawed and far from perfect, and I am well aware of our transgressions. Many mistakes were made, and many more will come. However, my country has done great things too. It has improved and continues to do so. I will do my part to contribute to making it better.
      Anywho... You seem level-headed, reasonable, and totally not brainwashed. You probably live in an amazing country whose people never secured oil, rape or killed innocent civilians. That is totally a US thing. US is evil.

The only acting i do is pretend that i am fine. Pretend that i am not scared how the world has become. Pretend that i don't fear the next terrorist attack. Pretend that i dont fear destruction of our planet. Pretend......well the list goes on. I choose not to fear BUT its normal that that fear sometimes creeps up on us. My biggest fear is that there are no leaders to make the changes we really need. My biggest fear is that we as human beings are so blinded by fear that we wil follow the wrong person to lead us because we are afraid. But my biggest fear is losing all humanity.

      I have to take umbrage at your "right wing idiots" - I am what seems to now be called "right wing" and I would have stood for Captain Hill, do not make the mistake of assuming all of us are the same, lest I decide that because you are openly "left wing" by your comment, that you stand with the Gen Z snowflakes who would not stand to fight AT ALL, lest they get "misgendered" on the field of battle, which is about all it would take to make them surrender. Should I ask if you stand with the left wing paedophiles who seem to think 1st graders should be learning about sexuality and have transvestite men strip off in front of them, or allowing sexual deviants in wigs into female locker rooms to watch young girls getting undressed, - dare I ask if YOU are one of those deviants? How about the left wing liberals who are openly saying the USA should have unlimited illegal immigration "for the poor people" which at the last count was 5 BILLION - more than half the population of the planet lives at a level below what is considered poverty in the USA.
      Are you going to give them your home, your bed and the food from your table?
      Ask Texas how that's going right now.
      If you're going to decry "the right wing" I suggest you get yourself a big gun and dig a big hole, because you're going to need both very soon because of the actions of your fellow "left wing compatriots" who are in actual reality, anything but patriotic. "Sanctuary cities" promoted by the left, that are being overrun by both illegals and fentanyl zombies; gay men walking around in dresses, and sometimes not dressed at all, in front of CHILDREN, and the thousands of criminals forcing companies to close stores because of malevolent shoplifting and the police forces of the USA are almost powerless because of both BLM (which you also probably supported) and the call to "defund the police" FROM THE LEFT.
      How's your "left wing utopia" working out, now that the left seem to be running the country - do you feel "more free"? Do you feel more enriched both culturally and in your pocketbook? How does your community look today; how do your children feel about the new world you have created for them?
      I suggest you SHUT THE FCK UP sir, because you've already done damage enough to a once great nation, and in the coming weeks and months even you too, all you "left wing idiots" will see you are not immune to the terrible cost of your UN-patriotic actions

    I still remember thinking at the time how he was different and was a lil weird at first about it. It had a certain taboo about it and I remember feeling uncomfortable at first when we’d shower-shit-sleep in right quarters etc. And I shouldn’t have.

      If I was a Republican and one of the candidates of that time, I would have waited for the others to speak their piece (and say nothing about the unacceptable reaction) and then I would have begun by reprimanding the audience for insulting a man braver than you, braver than me:
      "I'm sure there are men and women in this audience who are appalled like me, for this hypocritical behaviour of members of this convention and my fellow candidates is appalling! On one side you are all about how we should respect our soldiers for their commitment and bravery - but here we are, seeing the same people who said that, preaching water and drinking wine. None of you saw fit to stand by this brave man, who didn't let bigotry stand in his way to serve this nation in a way that you or I would never do! What message does this lack of loyalty to a servicemember send to the public and those who are part of the armed services? The question of Captain Hill together with the despictable reaction of members of the audience was a test - a pop quiz if you want. And ALL OF YOU FAILED! None of you passed the test even remotely by saying something like 'Oh, this reaction of the audience was uncalled for." No one said anything. And I'm the only one! Seriously?! You want to be future commander-in-chief! You want to be this country's leader! But a true leader doesn't simply demand loyalty from others - he gives it back in return! A commander-in-chief has the back of his troops, and they have his! I may lose your votes for standing up for a fellow citizen - for a soldier braver then anyone of us! But that is a sacrifice that I'll gladly make! Better to do something right instead of taking the easy way. And if me standing up for a brave soldier like Captain Hill, who deserves to be honoured and is a greater and more inspiring leader then all of us loses me your votes, then I see no place for me in this party any longer.
      In regards to Captain Hill's question: Captain Hill is a fine example why we are called the land of the free and home of the brave! Progress in civil rights and liberties that has been made by past administrations and legislatures shall not be undone, just because our party did not endorse it. The progress that's been made was direly needed. I pledge here and now, that I will support the rights of EVERY American, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality and so on."
      That's perhaps what everyone of us waited for: A couragous candidate standing up and roasting the others over this.

WHICH is a made up word by scientists whom support the homosexual agenda, along with those whom agree with it, and yet homosexuals themselves.
      Homophobia, no one actually fears it like an actual phobia, so why is it a phobia, well, it's a word designed to guilt you into accepting the lifestyle.
      I do NOT hate homosexuals to death, but I hate the act of homosexuality, and wish it didn't exist, I can't just HATE homosexuals like that, because it isn't there fault, they were molested, turned out in some way or some other tragedy, no one is born this way I refuse to believe it.
      So, now I guess I am going to go "kill" myself because I disagree with this homosexual agenda that was successfully pushed, which is going to open the door to other negative things, just you wait, pedophilia is already being pushed, and that also is an act Europeans back in the Greek, Roman, and Persian days existed, where they'd prefer young teen boys as sex partners, and to use the woman just for breeding purposes.

      No, because a lot of the points she made are incorrect. Same points that Ann Coulter has made and have been proved wrong for years. Besides, it's not about winning. Human interaction is a discourse and an exchange of ideas. Here, for example, Will isn't trying to destroy the woman but rather counters her claims with facts. The same thing that has been done in any single debate, be it left or right. Lahren's claims were even disprove by multiple media sources, analysts and experts (based on said interview/debate). Now, nobody is saying Lahren and her followers aren't allowed to keep on carrying with their own beliefs. However, the problem with Lahren et al, is that they want to win an argument instead of just facing a fact and move on. Rather, most people like Lahren want to win at all costs, which in turn makes them create fake statistics/quotes/events. An interview is to know what the other person has to say based on the questions they're asked and one is allowed to counter false claims with real information. It's a mentality of us vs. them. Sadly, that's a very immature and childish way of seeing things, especially problems that affect different populations in any country.

      The one and only place where it mentions anything anti-gay also happens to mention that you should be condemned to hell if you cut your hair, shave your face, wear mixtures of fabrics, eat shellfish, every single one of these the anti-gay crusaders are guilty of (maybe one or two of them never ate fish, but that's about it).

      some guy in a million wasting time on youtube wait a minute.... did you basically just say "men are superior so fuck you"?
      I'll give the benefit of the doubt and assume you meant to type "man and man". But if that were the case, and if God was so offended by it, he himself would stop it. The fact that it still exists shows that he either doesn't care, or is okay with it.
      Furthermore, for anyone to engage in discrimination and violence using God's name is an even worse sin. If God is offended by the actions of a gay man, it is GOD'S responsibility to judge him, NOT YOURS. You are not "God's instrument", get over yourself before you earn yourself a one-way ticket to hell as well.
      If being gay is a sin, then they will answer for it in the end. But don't be surprised when you find the almighty judge welcoming in a man who only wanted to spread love, and casting out those like you who only wanted to hate. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong, but again God is the judge, NOT YOU.

      some guy in a million wasting time on youtube Teachings which you only assume are so, based on a book, re-written multiple times in multiple languages, all based on stories that were spread by word of mouth for centuries before written down and complied into literary format.
      Besides, any God worth the slightest worship would love all living beings he created equally. Any offense to such a God would be taking the lives of the beautiful creatures he has created. And if he has a problem with anything, it is he alone who should deal with it.
      The Bible is just far too easy to corrupt by the hands of men, as it was the hands of men who wrote it in the first place. Whether inspired by God, given direct passages to chronicle, or just pulled out of one's proverbial backside, it is almost guaranteed that the words have been changed numerous times over time. And those changes always to benefit one class over another.

      @fictionmyth 9 років тому +9

      I believe the ultimate truths of what Jesus said are relevant to any time and period. It's basically, "Love your neighbor as you would love yourself."
      What that means, in no uncertain terms is that hatred is a primal and unnecessary thing. To "hate" the "gays" or to condemn anyone is not the place of a person but a God. God tells you how HE will deal with that, not what YOU should do to deal with that.
      He tells you that you should love everyone and find a place in your heart for them. Any other teaching is not what Jesus said, but your crude and tortured interpretation of a book, as K1productions so eloquently put it, was rewritten hundreds of time and translated dozens. So, to say, "I know" about anything that the Bible says, is not only naive but untrue.
      So please, take your hate and your malice for a thing that you're probably fighting inside of yourself and leave judgement to the deity you believe so devoutly in. That is, if you're a Christian and listen to what Jesus said. If not, keep being a lukewarm believer who will be spat from the mouth of God. It's completely up to you.

    • @k1productions87
      @k1productions87 9 років тому +2

      some guy in a million wasting time on youtube Yes, so why are you going by the bastardized, twisted, backward, re-translated modern English version of the Bible? There is no "original version" anymore, it died over 1500 years ago, at least.
      So yes, all he asks is to follow what he has stated. Love thy neighbor, treat others as you would have yourself treated, spread love not hate. And when others show hate toward you, striking you in the face, show them the other cheek and ask to be struck there as well. The fact that you even mention despised, that fact alone says you are not following Jesus' teaching, as everything he ever stood for was the antithesis of despising anything or anybody.
      The fact that humans even engage in sexual behavior is part of God's design to begin with, as he has given us these natural instincts for a reason. Besides, the more we are making love, means the less time we are making war.
      "most gods are not merciful, that's why they are gods", that is the most horrible, backward and nonsensical approach I have ever heard. If you want to live in such a horrible existence, you go right ahead, but don't drag the rest of us down with you. The world is beautiful, it is people like you who make it ugly. I pity you sir, and I wish that you can find peace in whatever has gone so horribly wrong in your life.

      I was there in 1981. Things must have changed on one front - if you made it through your other schools (for me, Electronics Tech A school) you were an E-4. I made E-5 while in school. But the important thing had not changed. We lived in barracks with four men to a room, and all of us in our room knew (eventually) that Brian was gay. Several others had figured it out too, but he was our buddy - period. Then one night, a machinist's mate from Alabama finally caught on, because we would go party at the clubs in town, but Brian usually left after one or two drinks. We all knew he was going to a gay bar or some other thing like that, and we did not care, but this guy was going to "report that pervert!" We were forced to let him know that if he did he'd get his ass kicked so high that he'd be shitting out of his neck.
      Brian was one of the lucky ones, at least for a while. But I am sure he dreaded every transfer and new posting knowing that he might not have friends who would have his back. I lost touch with him after reactor prototype training, but I hope he never had to go through what you did.

      +MrBWhite88 Save for, y'know. John being a liberal, and Will being Republican, or at least supposed to be that way. He does come off sounding more Liberal. The large scale of this show had Will coming off as more of a Liberal than his intended Republican character. Best point in the show was the intro. The whole "America isn't the greatest country" bit. Because it did paint him as a Republican that at least some could respect. Recognizing the failures of both parties. Praising their successes. But in the rest of the show he goes on to being far more critical on the Republican party, despite preaching quite to the air of no political bias in the beginning.
      Had McAvoy stayed true to that version of the character, I would watch someone like that, but seeing as he became someone like Oliver, someone who gets paid to make you hate a specific candidate, or a specific party while feigning the appearance of not being biased... Well, I mean that's kind of the reason I don't watch Oliver.

      +andrew Was McAvoy supporting the troops? He was supporting a gay soldier. Nothing more, nothing less. And supporting the supposedly disenfranchised such as people of color, LGBT, etc. is what liberals do best, its what they're known for. As a gay, and formal liberal, who was carted around by other liberal "friends" just to show how tolerant they are, I should know. Every day, whether it warranted it or not, was another day for them to fight for rights in my name, that I wasn't even concerned about.
      But no, McAvoy wasn't supporting the troops. He, as a Republican, was railing into other Republicans for not adhering to Liberal ideas of what they should do in that situation. The issue with McAvoy, is the same that Sorkin has with any of his shows, Republican characters will fall into two categories. Exaggerated stereotypes, or RINOs.(Republican In Name Only ) The latter of which come off like McAvoy here. Hyper-critical of their own party, while sparse to comment on any shortcomings of the Democrat party. Of which there are many.

Sometimes that unit would request a particular medic. There was one unit would always without fail request one medic. Now this guy in full field gear would make Cameron Diaz in a bikini look butch. Those in that unit could give a rats ass he was gay. All they cared about was that he was a top notch medic and would sacrifice himself to make sure they got back. In my experience only those in politics and administration were the ones demonizing LBGQT+ in the military not the ones with their boots on the ground.

    My god, I love how pissed he gets when he talks about them booing that soldier. It's that kind of wrath the people booing deserve, and it's that kind of wrath that should be given to them every time they have a thought even remotely considering trashing on the LGBT community.

    My Husband served 26 Years On a submarine IN the US Navy. He knew a Man that was what he called "The Best damn chief I ever met." No one Knew about his sexual orientation Because He worked very Hard to Keep it quiet. When He was found out By chance He was fired and Put Out Of the Navy Because He didn't ask and didn't tell But they Knew.
    My Husband went from a Lowly deck div all the way to COB and Master chief Before He retired. He still said That That chief was the Best damn chief he ever served with. and My Husband was a Great damn chief and Master chief.
    This show was Exactly what we all Needed during Bush all the way through Trump But it would Never Last Because It seems Like No one wants the truth

      I don't think the show was anti republican, it was anti whatever the republican party has become. They haven't been the party of Lincoln for forever. They really should just be called the Money Grubbing, Gun Totting, Billionaire Ass Kissing, Religious Extremist, Gordon Gekko Worshiping, Racist Party.

      The show is a well written liberal echo chamber. 'If we had known everything we do now, what could we have said to really zing them!' I appreciated them being honest with their bias towards collectivist principles though.

      If you watch the full show, it was honestly more Pro Republican than anything since Will McAvoy IS a traditional (not radical) Republican. That being said, it was anti- being a piece of shit, no matter the affiliated party. That party was Republican at times like in this scene, Democrat at times, and all the others, too. A show that takes punches at everyone if you aren't wearing blinders.

    I am a gay, retired solider ( army) and a republican. When the republicans in the room booed , I was mortified. HOWEVER, people must understand this was just one room full bozos...they DO NOT speak for the majority of us. Ask yourself this, if you are a democrat, do democrats say and do things that you agree with 100 percent of the time?

      I know this is many years after you made your comment, but I hope in the time that has passed you have come to realize that this clip was not about the people in the audience that were booing. This clip was about the candidates on the stage and their failure to support someone who they are running for the office that will make them his commander in chief. Were you only mortified by the booing, or were you equally let down by their collective inability to support a soldier.

    The newsroom would have SO much new material nowadays. At the time I felt that at some point they would run up too much into "today" making it impossible to tell high quality stories any more. And this might even be one of the reasons the show was cancelled. Yet it would be a good time now to do a continuation or a reboot.

    I visited my gf who is a veterinarian student at Purdue. My gf and I went to a movie Saturday night. I asked if they gave discounts for military personnel. She said no, but we do for students. My gf spoke up and asked, why does she get a discount for being a student but my bf doesn’t for being in the military? I thought a valid question. She says, it’s not our policy. My gf says, then maybe you should change that? The man behind us is listening to the entire conversation and says, I’ll buy their tickets for them and you should be ashamed. The manager comes out and says I’m sorry but you’ll have to go, you’re creating a disturbance in our lobby. The man, who’s already said he’d buy the tickets for us, says: if you kick them out I’m calling my wife and the news will be here in 10 minutes, your move sir. There are some people who get it and some people who don’t. We watched aquaman with our new best friend for free 🙌🏽 thanks Dan and Semper fi

    I fully acknowledge that The Newsroom, while an all-around brilliant show, is still completely fictional. However, the storyline DID expose a real-life double standard. Conservatives accused former San Francisco 49er Colin Kaepernick of being "unamerican", "unpatriotic", "hating America" and "disrespecting our military" for kneeling during the National Anthem. But, for some reason, real-life Republican audience members attending a real-life Republican presidential debate and booing a gay soldier who was literally deployed to Iraq was NOT considered "disrespectful" by Republicans, but was instead categorized as private citizens "exercising their 1st Amendment rights." That was a really interesting take on such a blatantly disrespectful act of expression towards an actively serving member of the military. Colin Kaepernick got blacklisted from the NFL for kneeling, which had NOTHING to do with the military. But private citizens who directly booed an actively serving member of the military were given a free pass.

      Keep in mind that, while the show is fictional, this event did take place, in the date provided in the video. So your statement is more solid than you think it is. And yes, we all know how things roll there.

    When I served back in 1980 we had a bunch of people working for the government come check our barracks . They were checking for anyone being gay. I had my own barrack only female soldier at the time the guys had 3. We were in isolation. Sad to see soldiers willing to fight for our country yet have to hide their sexuality.Who cares just be grateful for them protecting you and thankful. They're the true hero.
