      The fact that it refused to compromise in its critique of American media is what made it a great show. Even when those same forces led to its cancellation.

      this seemed retarded.
      he’s hating trump because trump doesn’t pay for airtime? lol tf?
      that’s like video game reviewers giving bad reviews because they did pay.
      ridiculous.
      and tiny hands? cmon. have you seen him throw a baseball? he also built a lot of things using those tiny hands writing people checks with the money his father gave him.
      but he didn’t do what a lot of people do and spend it and lose it. he invested it and actually built shit to make him more money.

    This is why I loved Newsroom so much, and will always regard it as the absolute apex of the medium. When wielded by good, television knows no equal in it's capacity for improving the species. As is so often the case with the most powerful tools for good however, the sheer scale and degree of devastation it can wreak when wielded by evil, makes the choice to unsheathe that tool borderline criminally negligent against the species.

      Elena Timofte -- millions were homeless even when Trump was not the President. First thing your country ought to fix is ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION --- These illegals take way the jobs of poor American citizens and are a drain on your country's resources. There are about 16 million illegals in USA and more are pouring in through unprotected border. Vote for a strong & tall border wall which your President Trump strongly champions. In 2020 vote for Trump Your economy under him is booming Joblessness among the blacks is at an all time low

    • @mohanmenon1300
      @mohanmenon1300 4 роки тому

      Google User ---- economic strengths coming off the previous administration(s) is a laugh. Don't tell me what is on at the USA - Mexican border --- now I know more about the USA southern border than many Americans. The claim that most illegals come through ports of entry is a joke -- like the Question put by Kamala Harris to a a Border Patrol official facing the Congress -- Oh but you separate children from their parents ? ( on illegal immigrants) Well if any single parent American citizen commits a crime -- will he be separated from his children or not ? Of course ! So why the silly question from an over rated elected representative ? Another stupid question from this silly woman Harris was ---- more drugs were confiscated at ports of entry than at the open border is it not ? Anyone with average general knowledge backed by a wee bit of common sense knows that THERE IS NO TRACK OF DRUGS BROUGHT IN THROUGH OPEN BORDERS SUCCESSFULLY -- and very little of what is smuggled in that way is detected and seized . Cleaning , cooking , work on the farm etc do not require you to speak English. Further the huge amount of money that is spent by the USA in hundreds of millions of dollars in detaining the illegals can be reduced by about 90% if there is a solid wall which President Trump is keen to have. The huge sums of money wasted on illegals after keeping border lax could be put to better use for the benefit of the American poor

    • @mohanmenon1300
      @mohanmenon1300 4 роки тому +1

      Google User ----- building houses of bricks and fixing strong doors and locks have not prevented all those doing so from getting robbed or killed by intruders --- but people all over the world try to get the best doors and locks they can afford for their houses. And whether Trump uses illegal maids in his towers or not is besides the point -- the point is HOW AND WHY DID THEY GET INTO USA ILLEGALLY AND WHO ARE THE PEOPLE TRYING TO ENSURE MORE OF THAT KIND ENTER USA

      Hillary and her machine thought so. First they screwed Bernie Sanders and then good ol' Bernie back stabs his supporters by endorsing the very corrupt system that screwed him in the first place. In hind site, doesn't bode well for his moral fiber as well. Then they manipulated the system to bring Trump to the forefront because they thought they could slam dunk the election with him as their opponent. The only variable in this whole chess games were the voters and Hillary and her machine tried to take care of that by getting the corporate media right in their pockets and painting Trump as the most deplorable candidate. The election is now over and Trump is the president. I say we should all give him the benefit of the doubt and a chance to prove himself in cleaning up Washington once and for all.

    • @grantmccarty5640
      @grantmccarty5640 7 років тому +6

      Ancientreapers it was a failure on her part. And as for the Bernie Sanders endorsement, I think he had to do that. In his mind, someone like Hillary is better than someone like Trump, a man who stands for everything Bernie is against. But you are right in the sense that his voters felt betrayed. I was a Bernie supporter during the primaries and when he endorsed Clinton I felt a bit sick. But I also understood why he would do so. I think, regardless, Hillary just didn't inspire the confidence in Americans that she needed to. Trump supporters really believed he could make change while most Clinton supporters saw her as simply not Trump. That is a big reason why she lost. But you are right, we have to give him a chance now. I hope he makes good on some of his promises and ends up helping the country. I just wish some of his voters (and Hillary supporters too!) were more well informed on policy and implementation of that policy. I think Trump has many great ideas but we have not seen how he is going to do some of these things. These next 4 years should be interesting

    • @senorfreebie

      You can't honestly be suggesting that Bernie should have supported Trump instead? Or run as an independent, because both of those scenarios result in the same outcome.

    • @buf4wil
      @buf4wil 7 років тому +1

      Sanders had made a pledge that he would support Clinton if she was the nominee before he ever declared for the race (it's part of the "deal" that Robby Mook referred to in one of his emails to Podesta, where Mook is outraged that Sanders is bringing up Clinton's funding sources and says they should remind him that they have "leverage" on this), so I was always skeptical, because I knew that ultimately he would end up trying to push left-populists into voting for an ultra-elitist right-winger. Thankfully, he failed at this.
      I understand his wanting to keep his word (and on a more practical level, not screw over his standing with the Senate Democrats), but I think he should have valued his principles and the interests of the country higher, and run either as a Green or an Independent. I'm sure he would have polled highly enough (15%) to qualify for the debates, and unbound by any need to keep the gloves on (as he did when he tried to help Clinton sweep her emails under the rug in 2015), he would have done very well and might well have beaten Trump.
      (He would have crushed Trump head-to-head, but Clinton could well have played spoiler.) Alas, we'll never know.

You can't trust either and it's a shame that these are the candidates. Surely trump is less trustworthy. +Saucy Biscuits It is. I dropped it at the end of the first season because it got to be too political. It was fine when it was a bunch of fictional news reporters playing through real-life current events, but once it got a definitive political slant and started naming real-life political figures as 'villains' (like the Koch brothers) I lost interest immediately. I stuck it out to the end of the season but I never picked up the second one, and I never plan on it.

Here in Canada, we have a 2+1/2 party system and we have Trudeau... he’s not a Trump, but a guy who is really out of his depth (being honest), BUT, he and his Liberals were better than our Harper/Sheer... although Harper did do many things right, but with a holier than thou attitude. We can say, in Canada, that democracy really isn’t working, BUT there is nothing to take its place unless you want to have a benevolent dictatorship.... but you have no guarantee the next person is the same thing. I'd love to know where you buy cars, 'cause last time I checked a new car cost around around the same amount you erroneously gave burger flippers' their yearly wage.

    To all the people complaining about liberals, or complaining about putting down (then) candidate Trump, you're missing the point of Jeff's [scripted] response to the question.
    Trump winning the republican primary (and thus running for president against Clinton) wasn't the best case scenario for Clinton.
    *That's* what his point was. Not that Clinton's better than Trump. Not that Trump is a bad option for the republican nomination.
    The point was that Trump is going to be a difficult opponent for Clinton.
    If you think the argument was anything else, go listen again.

  • @whatdupdoh

    Alot of people in here that do not understand this question and answer.
    The question is asking Why Trump(as an opponent) is the best case scenario for Hillary to win the race..this assumes Trump is a bad opponent and that hillary will win.
    Jeffs answer is saying this is not the case at all and Trump could actually win this race if the only two arguments are:
    1. Lets have a woman run the show and
    2. LOL he has tiny hands.
    Ie. democrats should have picked a better candidate and Trump would make america great again....ok maybe i just added in that last part.

    It appears that many have completely misunderstood the tenor of Jeff Daniels'/Will McAvoy's speech, which was actually a warning to complacent liberal voters about the high probability of Trump's rise. This speech, though a parody of a monologue from the pilot episode of "The Newsroom," was supposed to be a wake-up call to those who assumed that Hillary Clinton would win by default if Trump won the Republican nomination and become her contender. McAvoy/Daniels was explaining that even though Trump is a "fact-bending loose cannon who alienates mainstream voters" and thus seemed too unstable to be elected, his antics earned him considerably more media attention than other candidates. He was also explaining that electing a female head of government was not unprecedented, as 22 countries had done just that already, so assuming she would win by default because America wanted to be the first in that regard is ludicrous. His speech also warned that Hillary Clinton's popularity (in terms of overall favorableness ratings, perceived trustworthiness, and capacity to energize and inspire voters within her own party) was not prodigious enough to ensure the automatic victory that many liberals were expecting. If voters removed those parameters from their logic, McAvoy/Daniels argued, they would realize that she was beating Trump mainly in terms of the number of millennial followers (who usually don't vote) and the number of emails deleted from a server, a hint at a possible scandal that could, and did, come back to haunt her and the election results.
