I cannot stop being grateful for your knowledge and wisdom, Karl. I appreciate what you do. You are a great deal of inspiration. Best regards from Mother Russia.
You are truly an inspiration throughout the years. Thank you for the adequate, professional and always on point advice and outstanding content. Alyways a fan! Respect.
Great video with detailed information! Yes, Fashion Photography is a lot of fun to create but like many other forms of Art not everybody becomes famous however Fame does not define good work. Good that you mentioned to keep an eye on making sure that the use of props can turn a Fashion Shoot into a Costume Shoot. Thanks Mr. Carl Taylor for this channel full of information!
Thank you so much Karl for the awesome, comprehensive video about fashion photography and different aspects of it. I've been learning a lot from your videos! God bless you!
Great advice sir. My brother and I did a little ' fashion ' photography in our youth in the early 80s. It was as far removed from the illusion of glamour and glitz as is was possible. Since we were beginners we made no money. Most of our time and money was wasted shooting newbie models to help them build a portfolio. In the end we gave up. It just wasn't sustainable.
I got the answer for the question that in had in my mind of making a fresh come back which I was planning to do after the end of this pandemic..... thanks Sir....
Another interesting and ruthlessly pragmatic summary... and a welcome reality check from the success-porn profiles that used to be common in photo trade magazines, which often seemed to suggest that all you need to do is drop out of art school, then hang around sketchy clubs every night until 5 am while waiting for one of your skateboarding buds to start a major new fashion label. Now I know exactly how to start my fashion career - with luck maybe I'll be able to claw my way up to low-end catalog work by the time I'm about 105 years old!
Thanks for your comments and I'm happy you like my pragmatic approach. I appreciate that reaching the top in fashion photography is a huge mountain, not one I've been able to climb or have even attempted. But the beauty of it is that with collaboration, team effort, planning and tenacity one can still produce credible work that rivals the images of the big brands. Aiming to produce the images and accomplishing something credible is still a rewarding challenge.
Networking and marketing yourself are major things you need to do to become successful, that aren't mentioned by Karl in the video. A lot of it is "who you know, not what you know". Don't get me wrong, you still have to be a competent photographer, but a less talented photographer with the right connections is going to go farther than a more talented photographer who doesn't get his work in front of the right people.
Most of these dreams about fashion photography came from Antonioni’s “Blowup”. The expectation that any pretty girl will “jump out her panties” in front of big lenses and flashlights... The true is different. One of the best compliment I’d received from my model on the sunny, windy and cold day: “You take care of me as my father would expect from his future son-in-law.” She was 17-3/4 (yes, we’d a written permission from her parents to shoot; Milena practiced modeling since 13yo under straight mother supervision). Multiplying by 3 it was still under my 55 then. How otherwise should I behave if I need the proper fashion shoots?
The way you talk is full of skills and experience but how fast you answer your followers is just Incredible and organisable System you use, you are more than teacher offers hand to everyone to learn photography, God bless love and respect to all
I allow myself to give you some advise: you need Karl make to want you. Offer him something he wants. Make a video/photo and get him to acknowledge it. Buy advertisment that pops up when he googles himself. Now you made 2 comments both asking for assistance position on this channel, i feel it's a little less when you want to work with him. Watch and comment tons of videos so he knows you know what he is teaching and you understand his views, side effect: by commenting a ton he will recognize you one day by himself. Buy a course or workshop and be brilliant in it.... There are tons of possibilities that work better than plain asking under a youtube video.
But HOW? Great tips but you didn’t really answer HOW to become a fashion photographer after those steps (creating a concept, finding a model) is done. HOW do I become a fashion photographer? What magazines do I reach out to? How do I get hired by brands? Do modeling agencies ever hire photographers? How does it all work? Please help!
I supported my photography career by shooting catalogs and magazine editorial. I found it wasn’t what you know it’s who you know!

Can a fashion photographer use only rented studios?
Thankyou

WHAT ABOUT WHEN CLIENT OR MODEL ASK FOR RAW IMAGES.?
That wouldn't be normal practise.
Because many of the times people are for raw images for selection even after contract they use those jpegs on social media platforms.
Nice I’m a photo editor

The 'How' is on our website.
Hello Bro I wanna meet you
A day rate cost more than my camera :(
you can find a model for 500-1000 a day... uhhhhh yeahhhh... i wish i could get paid that in a week bloke...
:D
1st tips: get a model
good tip
I believe you just only have "the name" not that professionality you keep on talkin about. (my opinion)
Fortunately at least one of those things is serving me very well.
@@VisualEducationStudio Sure: the world is upside down!
