I remember hearing about proxies before and knowing that it does help lighten the load on your editing processes but it is only with this video that I’m finally feeling confident enough to try and add this to my workflow, so thank you as always for the amazing video!
THANK YOU!! I've been avoiding proxies because they seemed so intimidating, but you just sold me on them! You also just pretty much saved me from buying another computer.
there are at least 130 billion proxies videos on YT. this is the only one I've been able to find that has a fix for 120fps footage. i quit using 120fps because it was too frustrating. after applying everything you suggested in this video regarding that, speed ramped 120fps footage is as smooth as butter. what was weird is i could slow down 120fps footage as a whole to 20% and it would work fine, but as soon as i added any type of a speed ramp it just exploded premiere. thankfully speed ramping now works. thank you so much for this!
Hey Javier, We can't thank you enough for your video. With these tips, our videos will be produced faster. Keep doing this great job helping other people.
I watch Javier's videos even if I'm familiar/comfortable using the tool shown in the tutorial... These vids give me such a better understanding of how they work!
Thanks for this. I was confusing render and replace for proxies. If you haven't done a video demonstrating the differences and functions, I for one would vote for it!
As ever, you are a genius. You have taught me how to solve a problem I didn’t know I had. I thought the slow scrubbing update thing was just a thing. I think I love you x 😂😂
Your video you made are very useful for me,l have learned lots of knowledge about how to edit videos using Adobe premiere cc from your tutorials,it is definitely great, thanks again.
good video. will probably come back someday once i need to create proxies for 120fps videos. thx! i already worked out today but ill do 10 jumping squads because you uploaded
Thanks for this comprehensive tutorial Just a note on the internally recorded proxies on Sony cameras. These are still H.264 or H.265 codecs, which are not intermediate codecs (like prores) so not ideal for editing. You may get away with it because they are 1080p or lower resolution and very low bitrate, so most computers can handle, but still these are not codecs intended for editing. And a second comment about an issue I have even when editing with prores proxies in premiere: When you use warp stabilize on a clip, premiere replaces the clip with the original media, even if you have proxies toggled on. So what happens on a long and complex timeline if you use the warp stabilize effect a lot (like I do), even if you work with proxies you end up with a timeline that is very very laggy to playback or even that does not playback at all (if your computer does not have dedicated decoders for the original media). If you have any solution to this issue I'd be glad to hear. Thanks and I apologize for the long message
Hey Javier! Thanks for the tutorial, really useful. I was wondering what the encoding preset settings should be if I’m working with footage in aspect ratios other than 16:9. This happened to me once when I was working with high-resolution videos (over 3000px width and height) and when I created proxies I got two black bars at the top and bottom. Thanks for the tutorial once again! 🙌🏼
Thanks SO much for this. I have a GoPro hero 11 and it just wouldn't even preview on premiere pro. However the 'low resolution proxy' doesn't seem to be an option for me, only medium and high. Medium seems to work...? Not sure if this is a normal issue for a hero 11 footage. Thanks!
Proxies are great when you have a small project and older systems -- However, If you have a newer Mac or [PC] then proxies are irrelevant but good to have. Thanks!
Thank you...just added the proxy settings in my Sony A7SIII and can't wait to save that step! Any suggestions for when recording at 4K 60 FPS with my Sony...BUT my drone is 2.7k 60 FPS for creating proxies for both in the same project/sequence in Premier Pro?
Great video! I am just wondering, since the proxy is a lower resolution, does premiere know to scale and move various items (such as text) that you place in your edit so that it shows in the right area of the final video?
Since I've been doing most of my editing on my laptop and my program monitor ends up being the size of a postage stamp, I set my proxies to 480x270. Also, I like to watermark them, so you can tell at a glance
Hey Javier, great video! Do you have any recs for the best online course(s) for Premiere Pro? I learn a lot from UA-cam channels like yours, but would love to find a course with everything consolidated. Mainly for technical workflow but also the actual editing process itself.
This might sound like a dumb question but when you talk about using quicktime instead of H.264, is that because you are using Mac or is it still your preference on PC?
How do you make Media Encoder create proxies in a 1:1 aspect ratio instead of 16:9? Trying to edit “Pro Video” footage shot using Insta360 Go 2 camera. When I try to change aspect ratio in Encoding Preset, I get an error message. Great video, as always, Javier!
Thanks for the preset. My computer is taking forever to make the proxies. Like 45 minutes for each one. Anyway to speed this up besides new computer? thanks
Hey Javier! Thanks for the tutorial, I found it to be very useful. Do you turn off proxies and perform the color grading on the original footage or continue to use proxies?
The thing is after watching several videos.....nobody talks about all aspects of creating proxies. For example when done using ingest presets it wont proxy to the matching framerate. And an ingest preset is compulsory just to have the overlay png for proxies, just to have the png overlay functionality i have to create ingest presets, encoder presets and then finally it will proxy to only 1 chosen framerate. And theres no control on where the png appears (bottom right puts it so far away from actual bottom right, more like center lol), adjusting x and y offset has no reaction. Nobody talks about all this in any video. So im still searching thru 10s of videos. The ingest preset even sometimes rejects the render saying it wont accept an encoder preset with MATCH SOURCE framerates and resolutions.
You seem knowledgeable in Adobe Premier 2022! How do I fix ERROR CODE 507 UNABLE TO UPDATE CREATIVE CLOUD? IT GOES UP TO ABOUT 70% THEN TRIPS THE ERROR CODE!
As of the 2018 update of premiere I believe windows can both read and write Apple ProRes so you should be fine. CineForm has worked on both for years. Either is fine for this application.
I love your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Quick question about that part at the end. I understand why you do it that way instead of interpret footage, but is it the same to change your speed/duration than reinterpret footage to a slower frame rate to match your sequence and get the slow motion result? I remember a teacher telling me to not do it that way because it was wrong. Did he lie to me? 😱😱
Great tutorial. One question: I have a fast laptop but the raw files are too large to fit and edit on the internal drive. Can I connect my external drive, create proxies on my internal drive and then edit with proxies while the drive is disconnected and then just plug the drive in for the final render?
Thanks, Javier, I always appreciate your videos. One question: I shoot in 4K but export to 1080 so I can “zoom in” closer in post. Can I still do that technique with proxies?
Great video, but i am having some trouble. When trying to create a proxy i get the following error: "the selected preset does not support the audio channel type of the clip" I have tried changing the proxy presets settings to match the audio settings of the original clip with no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Hey Hey! love your videos! Quick question though... I'm working with proxies created in camera Sony a7s3 shot in 50fps Issue i'm facing, on a 25fps timeline, is when i slow down the proxy footage to 50 percent, it plays back jittery and not smooth. The source monitor plays smooth, on the timeline playback is jittery and then upon export its smooth again, the way its supposed to be. But what am i missing that i'm seeing jittery playback on the timeline?
Please help. If I select one file, the program replaces it with a file with a lower resolution. But when I want to add another, it doesn't add anymore. Is it possible to add multiple files to attach proxies at once?
Hi Javier, would I have to do the high frame rate proxy thing to 30-60 fps footage or is it just for really high frame rate >60fps footage? Thanks for your help excellent video. 👍🏻
Hey Javier, if I replaced some parts of my clips with after effects composition for rotoscoping, does it use the proxy file or original? If original what can i do to use the proxy video instead of original in after effects as well
Nice video but it doesnt work. I have the latest version of Premier Pro 15.4.1 - encoder creates the proxies and outputs them on the hard drive - the destination is set to NET TO ETC - and the proxies are created in a folder on the hard drive - but they dont show in premier - not even when I toggel the proxies on - nothing - typical Premier
I'm having issues with this. For some reason the list of proxy presets doesn't include "Low resolution" for both h.264 and quicktime. Anyone encounter this before or have any idea what to do about it?

Had some difficult DJI footage and this helped so much! Thank you
Fantastic tutorial! I had no ideas proxies existed.
Dude, I love your content AND your hair style. This is a very helpful trick!
Oooh I did NOT know that cameras could generate proxies whilst filming. That's useful to know! Thanks.

If effects are making a timeline lag I export a prores version of the troublesome part, place on the top track, and unenable the bottom ones.
You are a literal time saver.

CAn you work with proxies as a team instead of passing each other files ?
what about vertical videos?

Probably need to go with pro res then when creating the proxy. Hopefully that helps
when I package the project for another vendor to work on, will the proxy video get packaged? Which would keep file sizes down for transfer.
hey javier can you tell me how those texts are done from 0:00 to 0:04. I am looking to do like that but I guess you are using some kind of plugin.
No plug in, just using the title tool in Premiere
Can you add subtitles automatic from UA-cam?
Can I use adjustment layer before proxy footages to set the color grading?
So if I have 240 fps will it work with the proxy explained at the end?
am i the only one who has a issue when you select all of the clips to slow them down 20 percent, the ok button is greyed out?
