Does these charger still provide the high output while all the connections are in use? I have an older one and if I have anything else connect to another one of those ports it no longer provides the high output. and its link like I have a steam deck and an rog ally pulled in. it was just my deck and a samung galaxy watch 6 charger without the watch on it. So I really would like to know if you could test that out and let use know if with all the connections in use the charger will still deliver the high output. Thanks

Aloha from Hawaii! Thank you for the awesome content. I grew up on the original Nintendo, had a game boy, Sega Genesis, PS Vita, PS 3,4 and Xbox, Oculus then became a dedicated PC gamer. Since picking up the steam deck, by far this is the best device I've ever owned! I'm always watching SD videos to learn about how to make the deck better. Looking forward to more of your content. Honestly, it’s not even valve that made the biggest change for me. It’s 100% decky. The steamgriddb plug-in is so good. The UI changes with CSS loader are perfect for customization.

You can make similar changes on a switch _if you jailbreak it_.
In this way, it _is_ Valve that made this change for you by making a product with an open ecosystem.

Yes it's great! And the ProtoDB bages, and the HLTB stats... so much nice features. For me, the keyboard layout switcher is the best plug-in, without it to use a keyboard with German layout in game mode was unbearable...

@@Carl_Gundersonhe’s not comparing to a switch, he’s making a point on how steam deck has developer options that enabled this to happen so valve actually is the root hero and not decky plugin.

My only gripes I have left on the Deck are that Sim Racing wheel and pedals, HOTAS, and other peripherals are limited in compatibility. This is mainly an issue with the product makers but I'd love to see if Valve could get these companies to open up their drivers so a plug and play kernel driver could be made for Linux. My last gripe is that I would like to see the option to have more profile options for game settings. At least one additional one so we can have a undocked/battery saver profile; and a docked/AC power profile. Whey they haven't implemented that one yet I don't know.

What if steam game mode has ability to do split screen multiplayer for games that didn’t have split screen like nucleus co-op does (multiple instances of game and combines them into view, it’s quite cool actually) but using steamOS’s native gamescope. This would allow using games that don’t have split screen to be used as split screen. This would be more ideal for on couch gaming but can also be like switch with table top split screen for games. Not all games likely would support such resolutions but some do support borderless window or full screen. I’ve seen it used on games like minecraft Java and call of duty (where most the games don’t have splitscreen because of it being on pc) and more. Splitscreen you can connect to each other via online or lan or just do your own things. I think valve could make it better than how nucleus does it incorporating it into the gameui.

It's way better than the onexplayer and other "competition"... Yea those units use windows and can play games with other anti cheats that isn't eac but I don't really care. The repairablity of the deck is unmatched as well while if something messed up with the other units you have to send them to China and wait

    Steam deck!
my experience with steam deck so far since September... First month I had steam deck all i could think about was man why did I waste my money on this just for steam games? Second month I found myself playing steam deck more and more and actually taking titles that i would play on my PS5 and either rebuying them on deck or using remote play with my deck because i like the controller more. 3rd month i discover your video on the steam input and controls and i absolutely fall in love with my deck realizing just how much i can customize my experience. 4th month Im figuring out how to make games such as Project 1999 playable on deck and customizing my controller to make it an insanely comfortable experience something I would have never though possible for me on a pc game without controller support as I am primarily a console player. Last month i discovered just how much of an emulation monster the steam deck is and im playing anything from GBC games to PS2 games its nuts!. Which brings me to this last month starting out i knew nothing about linux and im not super knowledgeable on pc but I am now going back and doing things that i wanted to do when i got the steam deck but didnt have the know how to do so its amazing how much this device has taught me and I learn something new that makes it an even better experience every month! I love the steam deck so much that if they were to drop a 2nd version id buy it in a heartbeat!

Depending on what they end up doing for a Gen 2, I might stop building big PC's to game on and just use a deck, docked for everything... There's just little reason to go big anymore... The big question is whether the 2nd gen will have enough grunt to run good VR simulator (iRacing etc) experiences (yes I realize I'd have to run windows for that). Considering that I'm planning to retire in a few years and downsize substantially, having everything on a small portable powerful device will be awesome! (PLEASE eGPU dock capable!!!!)

I bought 2 x 2tb western digital sn740 nvmes, one for each device along with super fast 512 GB sd cards for each. I didn’t need the sd cards with 2tb internal, but I’d rather keep things like screen shots, screen recordings, documents (if any at all), some emulation with old school games off the NVMe. I’m going to dual boot windows with steamos so I can install games pass games and any AAA or non steam games that just don’t work well on steamos. It’ll be perfect. Then I’ll sell the 512gb nvme that came in the rog ally for about $30-$40.

Consoles allow you to operate specific singular things. You have a multiple consoles in your car that operate different functions of you car. You may have a remote access console to operate things outside you car. A computer or PC allows you the freedom to make whatever you want. You can convert a PC to a console by optimizing and forcing it to do one thing very well. Better yet to make the best console you build the console for the task it will be used for. Making it good at one singular thing and possibly bad at anything unrelated to its designed purpose.
A PC is a jack of all trades and a master at none. Sure you can build and make a PC do what a console does and do it better. But it's wasting resources and energy to alloy you to do other things. This is why people make "Gaming PCs" they are (without really knowing it) trying to make a console. They are trying to dedicate it to gaming, giving it the name "gaming PC". I personally have a 3D printer PC that has functions other PCs don't have making it more like a console than a PC, yet poorly optimized and wastes energy by trying to predict I want power to a graphics card which I do not and can not prevent from being partially activated.
Pushing all your resources toward your designed purpose makes you a master at your trade. Half-assing a console, which they have been doing for many years now, limits its ability to outperform a PC. There was a point in time when game consoles were better PCs than PCs and so people bought them as PCs. Why? Because it was optimized to do 3D graphics which was in high demand at the time. Consoles are supposed to push the limits and make what previously was impossible.
But instead our consoles are nearly nothing more than an adequate gaming PC and for the software designers to work within the specs of that design rather than having wanting to a dream to do something better and make the hardware for that. There are wasted resources in newer consoles. Left over functionality that doesn't belong. Yet that is cheaper to do now. So the question is are consoles even consoles anymore...
The steam deck is a portable PC.

Steam deck is both a game console (hardware wise) and a Linux PC. That's what makes it so great. Think of how much value Microsoft could have added to a system like the Xbox series S by simply allowing people to have a Windows desktop mode.

Agree with you that it’s also become my platform of choice. This “little” device is awesome. It’s totally shifted me into PC gaming where my PS3 / PS4 are in storage and I haven’t looked back especially since games like Arkham Origins (outside of the hard error prompt that happens ~1-2 times per hour) and Sleeping Dogs, Darksiders III, and other games run buttery smooth. Down the line, I am probably going to build a PC and SD / PC gaming will be my future (along with whatever Nintendo decides to do for their follow-up).
My only worry with this 1 year old device though is how on par will it be for non-cross gen games (games developing solely for PS5, XSX, XSS, and UE5 titles). We are starting to see some limitations of the performance of the Deck recently with some newer titles.
    I’m hopeful though.

I personally really enjoyed my steam deck this is my only device I go back to all the time. I use it for school, work, and other purposes. This has been my go to computer for everything. This has replaced my work laptop in every way! Say goodbye to a bulky gaming PC.

I've been on the fence about getting a steam deck. I don't need the portability that much and I have a switch for that anyway. I'm curious about how the steam deck runs games like railway empire, Civ 5, or age of empires as these are games that are not available or enjoyable on console systems. Also curious about if it's possible to and how easy it is to run 2 monitors in extended mode with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, playing those types of games.

still not a "console" per se. Steam OS still is a simple layer over linux, and launchers inception is a big hassle. Plus constant issues, reboots, inconsistencies. Is like any pc. The best for me the pre-shader compilation, thats amazing and the closest to console, but still with some issues

First few days of launch people criticize it because the System has a lot of problems and it wasn't finish. Little they know Valve got their hands dirty in making updates almost every day in fixing bugs and adding features.

Random shout out to UGreen-their charging solutions are game changing. I use the desktop charger to keep my MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, iPhone, and Steam Deck all charged and ready to roll. Going to grab one of their smaller bricks (as you featured) for the other room, as you can almost never have too many charging ports. Especially as reliable as they make them.

@@Carl_Gunderson curious if that’s just your opinion or if you have any direct experience on the matter? I own both Anker and UGreen products and have had good luck with both. Care to expand or provide any references to follow up with?

    • @BrianJones-wk8cx
      @BrianJones-wk8cx Рік тому

@@Carl_Gunderson that’s a fair perspective, I suppose. I could see where you could identify some parallels with the debacle of the titles. While I’m no longer a Linus Tech Tips subscriber (their flavor of fluff has just worn old for me), I feel like they’ve featured UGreen a time or two, as well as some other random UA-camrs, but admittedly it’s been some time since I’ve seen them featured. It was a similar sponsor spot, however, that prompted me to look into my current UGreen desktop charger, and it’s worked well for me. I’ll certainly keep my eyes peeled, but for the time being my experience with the product is extremely positive, for what it’s worth. I have more mileage on my Anker battery bank for my Switch, and even years into ownership, that battery still gives me amazing bang for the buck across multiple devices. Your mileage may vary, though, of course! Thanks for the chat on it, appreciate your perspective!

I've been using Green stuff for a while now, yes they sponsored me, but after they sponsored me, I needed something I checked to see if Ugreen made one and they did so I bought it from them. Their stuff is great.
You can despise sponsored stuff, but I wouldn't say that I like something that I don't. That being said, your opinion is just as valid as mine.

7:45 most videos I see talking about keyboards are talking about docked steam decks so they just mention regular keyboards. I thought you'd be funny to carry around a keyboard with you and use it as a computer sort of like you would a tablet or something and you could buy a tablet keyword and in fact a few people I saw suggested that but that's not a good option because tablet keywords are too bulky if you're just going to carry it around with a steam deck so the keyboard you showed off is much better. I've seen some other people talk about keyboard similar to that but they don't make it sound like they specifically bought it for the steam deck whereas I'm saying that this is the best type to buy specifically for the steam deck.

Steam Deck has drastically increased my PC gaming in general. It is so easy to go from my gaming pc to the Deck and vice versa that it feels like getting all of the things I love about the Switch, but when using my gaming PC, getting much more power when needed. Plus, it's fun just to try games out on it to see how they run and I'm consistently surprised how it runs new triple A games
