A++ thanx! almost certainly the switch on this '68 Shelby KR.
One other question from a novice. This may sound stupid, but if the ignition switch is bad, and you're able get it to crank with a remote starter, will it run in the run position or is that toast as well? My Mustang will crank and fire, but it won't stay running; I suspect the switch is bad. Will I be able to get it to run without replacing the ignition switch, or do I need to replace the switch before she'll run? thanks again, steve
ADD: With the ignition key in the run position, again ,my Mustang will fire, but it won't stay running. Steve.
If the switch is bad, it definitely won't stay running. But...just because it won't stay running doesn't necessarily mean it's the ignition switch. There are other factors too. Depending on the year of the car. If it's an old analog car...then that's probably the case though. That was definitely the case on this Chevelle.
Great explanation. Really simplified it. Mine has a high torque starter which has a spade connectors but all I had to do was look for the "S" terminal and hooked it up. Worked like a charm. Thank you.
Awesome. Glad it helped. Thanks for watching!
No beer?
I mean, you can still come over for beer...
Thanks so much for this excellent video! The diagram you presented of the Ford set up with the external relay was extremely helpful. Otherwise, I would not have known where the ignition wires and "S terminal" were. It cranks great, but It won't continue running. Does it need to be in the run position? My switch is bad, so will have to replace the switch before it will run? Thanks again, steve
Yes, it has to be in the run position in order to stay running
@@rhynosgarage thanx again. steve
If your trying to start and keep in running should ignition switch be in the on position. Im dealing with a no start 87 ford f150 it cranks and i have spark. But im looking to spay a little stating fluid into the intake. I know it stumbles when i do it from inside the truck but i want to spray a little more being outside the truck spraying into intake. So in short lol, does ignition need to be turned on. Thank you
yeah, it does. In that particular car at that particular time the ignition was busted inside the column so I couldn't turn it on. But you're right, if you want it to stay running, the key ignition needs to be in the run position.
Thank you for getting back to me hooked Up to my firewall solenoid on my f150 And I was able to somewhat keep it running using the handheld button and spraying etha into the intake. Not sure. What's going on with the truck? I believe it's just not getting gas. But thank you for taking your time to get back to me
Hello. Isn't that starter trigger switch basically just bypassing the relay? (which is probably going bad) Or maybe the ignition switch in steering columb?
It's just jumping the power so it forces power to it. It won't bypass the ignition system (meaning it won't start if the key is not on..it'll just turn over).
@@rhynosgarage ok thanks.
I found the spade ignition wire on the starter I connected the red wire to the remote starter. Did you say where you connect the black wire of the remote starter ? Do you connected to the negative of the battery
No, positive terminal. You’re jumping power so you need the hot wire.
@@rhynosgarage I figured it out once I connected the switch. Thanks
Can you show which post it goes On?
You use the "S" terminal as described in the video at 01:49. Exactly which terminal that is depends on the make of the vehicle.
I am working on a 41 ford 2 ton flathead 48 to 53 in her. I'll try this tomorrow
