In another video, some tech recommended using a “power probe” to retract electronic brakes w/o ever explaining what the hell a power probe even was! I mean, if the person doesn’t have a good scanner, then there’s a good chance he doesn’t have a power probe, either! This video was extremely helpful, thanks!
Since I missed yesterdays video it's now a twofer Tuesday on my end. So that truck was sitting for seven years and now you guy's have the pleasure of using it in a cool tool Tuesday video. Now that's Cool
As a young mechanic from the UK, this video was very helpful. Finding out how to use a tool to make my life easier and it explained in such a simple way. Amazing!
I'm not a mechanic. I'm a guy with very little car experience who is currently fixing his first car (Pontiac g3 2010) and my radiator fan ain't working. This video is so helpful🎉 I bought a power probe after watching Fixbook's video on fans but your video is actually showing me how to use it. Thanks 👍
Got the power probe 4 about a month ago off the Mac truck he had a smokin deal on it. Have t had a chance to use it yet so this video helps a lot. Thank you good Sir and keep up the good work on the videos
Thank you. I put a radio in a guy truck the other day and he had one of these and didn’t know how to use it and I didn’t either. I just always use a multi meter. This was extremely helpful thank you again.
One thing I didn’t here you guys say is just because it shows ground ( lit up green) when your probing things that doesn’t only mean that it’s a ground. It also means that it has a complete circuit to ground. Example when you did the blower motor test it shows ground meaning the circuit is complete. This is an awesome tool for electrical work but can also be harmful if your not careful
I bought one about a year ago. Havent really needed it until now. The DVD that came with it is useless in my opinion. I been looking through youtube videos to try and figure out how to use it . This one was helpful. I think its a great tool. Just figuring out how to use it. Thank You.
one thing to note awesome demo by the way. when they tested the starter solenoid and he got surprised by it showing ground is that a power wire depending how and what it is wired to will show ground unless switched on by either the ignition or some sort of switch and is under load then it will show battery voltage. be careful when wiring things and using available wires at the location you or wiring in as i have made this mistake and shorted a ECT guage lol.
It also shows instant voltage drop between two points in power mode (as long as you don't press the toggle button). Good for testing for loose connections

I'm testing for power on my mom's '95 crown Vic. There's a pink/black wire that they bypassed straight to the fuel pump relay. They cut it on the fuel pump wiring, as to bypass the entire wire, probably a short. When. I test that wire, it has power, but it'll flicker, and rapidly beep with no pattern to the beep. Kinda like it rapidly, but inconsistently loses and gains power, and shows as such reading and by sound. Could that mean I have a break in that wire, and that's why itwas bypassed?
My friend did you figure out what was the problem with your fuel pump, I am touching base with you because I kind of have the same problem but I would like to know how I can test the fuel pump without bringing the tank down with the power probe, hopefully you have time to explain to me step by step how to connect the wires from the power probe III thanks
@LuisMartinez-fr9gq there was a broken pink/black wire on the fuel pump side of the wiring harness, and that's why I guess it was bypassed at first. What the issue really was after that was the fuel pump motor wires. When I soldered the new plug on for the new pump motor, the original wires were dirty and had a poor connection. So, I ordered a Bosch one from eBay that still works to this day. It was around $80 and it eliminated the pump motor wiring problem and the fuel pump harness wiring problem with that pink/black wire.
@LuisMartinez-fr9gq you don't even need to drop the tank. It's 7 10mm bolts, a plug, and 2 fuel lines you'll need the disconnects for. The exhaust can get in the way when pulling it out, so pop the hanger off closest to the rear bumper, and it should let the exhaust hang low enough. This is all with the car jacked up, of course, but I forgot to mention that. You'll have to twist and maneuver the pump assembly to get it out, but the whole job can be done in around a couple hours max. To test for power, look up what wires are what on the wiring harness going to the pump. I think the pink/black wire may be power, but it's been a while. Then, set one to ground on the wiring harness or a good spot on the chassis, and with the key on, your probe should be in the ballpark of constant 12v. With the key off, you should get nothing. You can also do this with a standard multimeter set to volts DC.
Thank you for your assistance, yes I get my has 3 wires and somebody told the third wire is a sending unit wire to a computer that is why I have concerns not to damage the computer I want to fire up the fuel pump from the harness to see if my pump is defective, just not 💯 percent sure how to approach this test by connecting my power probe and see if it works. Thanks for the input about how to get access to the harness and moving the exhaust pipe.
@LuisMartinez-fr9gq do you have the power probe? You can ground to the chassis with the alligator clip, and apply power to the fuel pump side of the wiring harness. You can disconnect the fuel line under the driver rear door and aim it into a bucket when you test for fuel flow. One wire will be power, one being the sending unit, and one should be ground.

Is the power probe connected to the car battery to provide power for it to work? Or does is it wireless and can charge up then provide power?
It hooks to the battery that’s how it supplies the ground for the vehicle when you press the ground side switch same for the positive power side
I love my PP3! It's in my top 5 tools.
Does it matter which prong you apply power or ground to when you power the blower motor?
It will just spin the opposite direction (that is as long as it is out of the vehicle like this and no other wiring is connected)
Wait so if your tracing a bad ground and the motor is still plugged in it will read hit as ground as u showed the bench test

Will it test a coil pack to see which one is faulty

Analog if you’re watching for fast fluctuation in voltage. A multimeter isn’t sending power on demand, only measuring the input selected on the dial/buttons.
So basically unless you’re watching for some super quick voltage change, power probe every time.
