  • This video demonstrates how to install a wireless remote starter on a vehicle. This was my first time doing this so it was a test to see how user-friendly the kits are for home installation.

    Great breakdown! One day I hope to be able to do this on my own. I'm having a friend of my brothers' whose installed a remote start for him before. I had decided, kinda late and last minute to want to get a remote start finally for my wife's car. I hope he does a good job. It's gonna be slightly over a week after her birthday. But she doesn't know I'm doing it, so I hope she's pleasantly surprised and pleased. 🤗🤗

      It's more of a guy thing than a female thing. Guys are more left brained than women. Yes many women have left brained abilities (such as myself). I think it's related to the amount of testosterone in the brain and/or body. Scientists say there's no real proof that there's a "left and right brain" for knowledge but it's evidentally clear that some people are very mechanical and many are not.. because those people are crafty and musical and stuff like that.

    You are definitely correct the Compustar Manual seems a bit confusing, with Positive and negatives on the wiring diagram but, I'm going to order one for my 2001 Nissan Sentra and I too shall make a video.
    I know this is an old video but, my only recommendation would be to put a fuse at the battery on your blue wire so that if anything grounded out along the way it would pop the fuse before it melted the wire and possibly start a fire. IE -- from rubbing or anything like that.

    Very nice video. Well done. I just pulled an 8 year old Bulldog unit out that's been collecting dust. As an engineer, I'm trying to test this out before I install it. I don't know the theory of operation but it my mind the constant power should be the power source that the bulldog supplies to send the starter relay 12v as well as powers the accessories, such as the blower motor, and also powers the parking lights. I have it on my bench and can't get 12V out of anything. The only thing I have connected is constant 12v and ground. If anyone has a clue, let me know. I'm about to dump it as faulty. Maybe my head is faulty.

      In a basic sense, the Remote Starter Module simply tells the car to turn on, so most of the power is handled through the factory system itself. The exceptions are for parking lights (used to show the status of the RS when you attempt to start with the remote) and possibly door locks (if your RS is equipped to lock and unlock the vehicle). The other items you listed are all powered through various accessory channels within the vehicle. Most connections on the RS are safety things, such as the hood pin, trunk latch, and typically the door latches

    Blue wire is absolutely wrong…anytime you grab power from any source (ie. battery) fuse must be within a few inches.
    What do you think would happen if your un-fused blue wire rubbed on the radiator support with engine vibration? Short would cause excessive heat…then fire

    Hi. Thank you the video was very informative. Quick questions. You must use a key to unlock the steering wheel. What happens if the key is chipped? As in in there is two chips now. If you don't use the remote start is the chip bypassed anyway? Must you use one key if you do and another if you don't? Contused.

    • @TheCousinDan
      @TheCousinDan  2 роки тому

      The system will work with multiple keys present. Rental car companies do this a lot for some unknown reason. They put both factory keys on the same keychain and it works fine. You do this and you will always bypass the immobilizer, but another chipped key won't hurt anything

    • @91litesho
      @91litesho 2 роки тому

      Once a bypass is installed, especially the type that he used which is universal and has an actual chipped key within it from that point it doesn't make a difference whether you have another chipped key in the ignition or have a key made at your local home Depot or Lowe's or whatever. Any key at that point will work to unlock your steering wheel and be able to drive the vehicle whether chipped or not because the "installed" chipped key will always be sending a signal to the lock cylinder, unless the module goes bad or the transponding ring moves away from the ignition enough to cause an interruption

      Yeah, probably. But then all a thief has to do is smash the window and he has your car. I'd rather it be hidden way under the dash in a little non-descript box...and then you still have to have a key to physically turn the ignition column as well.

    Is there any way to not bypass the immobilizer kind of risky where I live

    • @TheMaccMilller

      The only way some could steal your car that way is if they drilled the ignition out. You still need the key to turn the ignition.

    In some cars you need to power the relay to turn off lights so that if the relay failes the lights will still work

    Just installed the Crime stoppers remote on the wife's car. Uses a brain box to bypass the key detector. Much better than putting a key in a box under the dash only cost about 20 dollars more.

      @mickeyharrington6785 2 роки тому

      @@Mr-kg5ij I would say it depends on the kit that you bought. MPC [My Parts Cart] sells one that just has one button on the remote, so you can wire it to use your factory remote to start the car. I bought mine from them and the instruction are in a PDF you down load. It is pretty detailed with pictures of the wiring for your particular vehicle.

    • @Dman199739

      Drone must be plugged into the grey 4pin port for Drone. Not the black 4pin port. On the DC3. Grey port is right beside the blue antenna 4pin.

    Can you do this with a manual transmission vehicle? My car requires me to have my foot on the clutch to start, would this bypass it?

    • @TheCousinDan
      @TheCousinDan  2 роки тому +1

      There are systems that can be integrated with manual transmissions. The important thing is that your car has some way of sending a signal that it is in gear or in neutral. The last thing you want is for your starter to just try and try to start the car while it is parked in gear.

    • @dwayne11sweatman46
      @dwayne11sweatman46 2 роки тому

      Actually yes you'll use the valet switch on your alarm/remote start while running in neutral with emergency brake applied an when you exit vehicle an hit lock itll kill ignition an then till remember its in neutral & itll be ready to start when you need to remote start vehicle ive done installs or custom accessories for years an I have to say for what he spent by a alarm/remote start spend that e tra few dollars an get a system that'll literally do it all touch window break cut heat an ac on can get that once it gets cold out an your car reaches certain temp itll auto start an run to keep engine warm but itll still be in alarm mode the. You habe hijacker mode so if someone try steal vehicle when you go get in it. An alot more I mean for 30 40 more you can have all that if you vehicle already has alarm but no remote start then you can still go with alarm an itll bypass factory alarm an let you have all on one remote as well as still sound you horm and the security system siren .

    If you are on UA-cam to get help to install remote start… I would go to a professional. His battery lead was unfused til inside the cabin, if the protective coating comes off the wire as he described a fire is a high possibility. Lol and don’t get started on how he tied the three wires together and that thing is unfused straight to the battery!!!

      @@TheCousinDan it’s possible they meant it was too complicated to save only a few hundred dollars for them. I think you did a fine job. One thing I would add is a fuse at the battery location for the power in the blue wire. This would be to protect the blue wire only if in the event of the blue wire rubbing bare to chassis ground. The controller was fused so that’s fine as you mentioned. I absolutely love that you soldered the wires. Great video.
