funny thing singaporean tamil, malays, chinese all lost their ancestral language as mother tongue. Look at malaysian chinese and indian they still speak tamil and chinese dialects as mother tongue after living for many generations.
Shehzad Chowdhury its about upbringing. why Singaporeans are losing the mother tongue touch is because a lot more households are using English as the language to communicate while Malaysian households still uses their respective mother tongue to converse.

They should be pround to know it ,but I had an impression they avoid to speak it ,and instead using more English ( even though their English accent is very heavy ). My opinion is please stop comparing and judging each other. Thanks for Tiffy G, for showing off the truth of current situation in our indian community. Always see, learn and study for prevention not to be happend again or changes.
Parents should educate their children at least communicating tamil language at home. Its a must. We should realize one important truth about our tamil moli. History says It is the 1st language, and alphabet in this world BC. We should feel guilty by saying i don't know Tamil and we should start to speak and learn tamil among our tamilans.

I have a question for u can you clarify it? Why there is national holiday for Diwali ( which is widely celebrated by Aryans against Tamil king) not for any Tamil festival even Tamil is 4th in line
Deepavali is just a holiday for the hindus in singapore
It is a national holiday for Tamilians and it’s a Tamil festival which is why we call it ‘Deepavali’ and not ‘Diwali’ - Marking the victory of Krishna over Narakasuran.
Also, while Thaipusam is celebrated widely by Tamilians in Singapore, it probably wasn’t declared as a national holiday because it’s specific to the South and Tamilians and not all Indians (Probably as a result to curb fights within the ethnic group).
Deepavali is more universal and almost all Indians celebrate it, me being a Catholic Indian do celebrate it at home too:))
