Here's why you should buy a vintage Giant mountain bike

- This video is going to be about Giant and my history with the brand, and the Giant Coldrock from 1994 I restored. Although I have to admit it wasn’t that big a restoration, considering the fact the bike was in almost perfect condition.
Giant doesn’t have the vintage allure of let’s say a Cannondale, Specialized, GT, or even Trek, and have something of a low-quality, budget reputation. But their affordability has made many good examples available today for a fraction of the price it would cost you to pick many other bikes.
And not only their rigid steel and aluminum versions are a joy to behold. They’ve also made some extremely flashy carbon bikes. I guess all I’m saying is the next time you’re thinking about a bike restoration project, maybe this post will make you look up some of those great-looking bikes from the Taiwanese Giant, pun intended.

This is the first mtb I ever had, exactly the same colour but the mens frame. Wow what nostalgia. Thanks for the blast from the past.
Glad you liked it
I love the Giant hybrid/city bikes. I'm restoring my second Giant Nutra and they make great commuter/city bicycles. They have robust Shimano 1000GS STI shifters, in a 3x7 format, which after a good cleaning and new cables often work like new. Once cleaned, the addition of new tires, fenders, racks, bags, saddle, grips and pedals, makes these bikes look stunning often for under $300 USD cost.
I just revamped my 91' Giant Prodigy I bought new. Have redone a couple times now😮😂❤
I currently commute on a 1992 Giant Yukon. I've only upgraded it with a few used parts to be 3x8 and use my Ritchey wheels, but it is still using the stock derailleur and it hasn't let me down yet.
I managed to get my hands on my first vintage bike the man’s coldrock today! I want to strip it down and clean it like you did, but I fear I will forget how to put it back together lol. Great video thank you!
Bedankt voor je filmpjes, ik heb exact dezelfde gekocht vorige week voor mijn dochter.
Sweet looking, smooth riding ^_^
Great work
382 eur. is your faiy money excange.
i checked it today.
got me a early 90s giant terrago in almost mint condition :D just needes a break leaver and some cantilevers
man you even got a decent biopace crankset on it already :DD
Awesome vid. I wanted to ask what bottom bracket type these old Giant's have? I renovated a Giant Chicago and installed a JIS compatible crank set but after a year the left crank arm constantly keeps loosening. Is it actually an IOS square taper?
It's probably a cup and cone style setup where a loose cup results in crank play.
Do you need a chain breaker?
I disagree with the video description because Giant bicycles are known to have a more comfortable ride than many of their competitors . I have a 1994 black and blue Yukon and find it has a fun ride feel . The Velo Comfort saddle is my favourite as far as OEM ones are concerned . So much so that I have two spare ones on standby . My Yukon is in excellent condition .
Giant Iguana rocks.
Iron horse is my favorite
I had a Marauder in black / yellow in 2003 .
😮😮😮😊😊
I would have replaced the bottom bracket with a Neco carbon shell one as they run smoothly compared to the loose assembly style original .
The bottom bracket wasn't compromised in any way, and I prefer reusing things on a bike that has all original parts like this one.
