Thanks for sharing! I am new to wanting to begin making my own signs for myself and for my family and friends and I'm wondering what type of glue you used to attach your boards before nailing? was that an automatic nail gun and also what type of nails are you using to secure the board to the back and make sure that they don't poke through the front. Sorry if those are silly questions I've never used tools or anything before so i'm a super beginner! :)

Jessica Godish it’s wood glue. Can find at any hardware store. And I’m using a staple gun hooked up to my compressor with 9/16 staples. Hope that helps!

Is your planer leaving marks at the beginning or ending? Or both?

    • @pinksawdustllc344
      @pinksawdustllc344  3 роки тому

Yes. You can take off the bite by holding the board a little bit or sanding it down or cutting it off.

Hoping this isn’t a stupid question, but why didn’t you get all your wood from the same place?

Michelle Bruce my local lumber yard doesn’t have these thin pieces of plywood. The 1 x’s are actually cheaper at my local lumber yard too. 👍🏻❤️

Thank you for sharing because I'm new and have a customer wanting a board that I need to build... the wood you got from your local lumber what kind and what size was that please?

you can get prime board or Arkansas board with no knots and it smoother but it's more expensive and not as cost effective.
      I use 1x4's and 1x6's .. 8 ft long... #2 pine
I also wouldn't recommend getting boards from large retail stores. They are more expensive. For example my local lumber yard sales 1x4's for $3. At HD it's $7!
      Hope this is helpful!

    Silly questions for you.
How long did it take you to get comfortable with working with the Saw's? Do you have any advice on how to become more comfortable with using the equipment? I would like to learn how to make cuts myself rather than waiting for my husband to do them but honestly the saw's scare the Crap out of me. Possibly because I'm deaf and can't hear if it makes sounds that would let you know something is not right.

Brenda Nurre very very true! I would suggest asking your husband to work with you. I don’t feel like your hearing should stop you from doing something you love. If you keep your hands away from the blade and use push sticks, safety and caution the worse thing that could happen is a board could kick back and hit you. You can also feel if the blade is in a bind and when to let off.
I’ve been taught to not fear your instruments but to always respect them and never get comfortable using them. Always be cautious and take your time. In the video it looks like I’m comfortable because the video is sped up but I’m moving very slow.
I’ve had my husband around to help show me things. I can only pray that your husband will feel comfortable enough training and teaching you. I can understand his worry if he has it though.
Never put your hands by the blade. Always use protective eye glasses. I like to use my gloves (but you aren’t suppose to have any type of clothing around any circular moving tools such as a drill press because your clothes/gloves can get wrapped up in it and stop your hand off.) Always use push sticks and keep your blade just high enough to cut referencing table saw blade.
I’m really no expert but i hope this is helpful and i wish you all the best.
I’m in support groups for wood sign making on face book. One is wood signs and more and the other is wood crafts and more. Join these groups and ask how others with hearing issues have managed their craft. All the best!

@@pinksawdustllc344 Thank you very much Sylvia! My husband is great and doesn't mind showing me how to do anything, it's me that does. For some reason when it's him that teaches me I feel like a kid being corrected. Hahaha poor guy tried to teach me how to shoot and I just couldn't get it, took classes and now I shoot better than him. I just need to get it through my head that he is teaching and correcting me so I will do better and succeed at accomplishing my goals.
Thank you very much for your help and time and thank you for your videos I really appreciate your time and energy. I will look up the groups on Facebook.
