Great video Nick, yours is the only one I could find to show me exactly what needed to be done when changing the fuel so thank you from the UK!
same!
Thank you so much for posting this video. I was able to follow easily and changed my own fuel pump first time ever and was able to crank her right up!
Hello,I watched this video twice so I could sum up the courage to change my fuel pump, after a smelly and messy 20minutes I did it,I am feeling a great deal of satisfaction as well as saving money,THANK YOU
Great video on the pump replacement, I am a diesel mechanic and have a customer who's son has a mini that wouldn't start, your video made it a breeze for me, thanks brother man.!!!!!!!!!!
Nice if anyone wanted to know that small round loop in the middle of the car is the emergency boot release.
Will be doing my fuel pump this weekend coming,it died today 😢 found your video a very useful insight
Same. Really helpful. Good steady camera work too. Thanks and greetings from Oz!
My dead 2006 Mini Cooper sounds exactly like urs @ the begining of the video. There has been no codes & i just rebuilt this engine & it has 20mins idling time on it, & then the nxt day it died. You made a great video & the Fuel Pump looks like an easy swap.....
Sounds like a good candidate for a fuel pump! Can you hear the pump prime at all when you just turn the key before starting it? Once I put in the new pump I could hear it much more clearly prime and I knew it had fixed the issue before I even turned the car on
Nice one Nick, am just about to change the pump on mine. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for this video!
Thank you did mine today 👌
Good video buddy 👍🇬🇧
Hoping this works for my coop! I miss him!!
I have a roll cage lol this is gonna be fun
Great work Nick. I have a question. What were the symptoms of your Fuel pump going bad?
Mine is doing the same exact thing out of the blue I filled up the gas tank and when I went to roll out the bitch won’t start up it cranks but won’t fully ignite. Only 60K miles on her. I tried to reset the ECU and all that computer shit. I think it’s the same exact problem as yours had
I will know more tomorrow when I get it to my guy. Thanks for posting this. I was freaking the Phuck out all weekend. I just bought it less than a month ago... Zero issues until this.
Hey bro did u find out what it was? My 2004 S is doing the same shit i already changed the duel pump n nothing. It cranks but wont start
I finally got around to doing both this and the filter. This video helped a lot. Unfortunately my fuel gauge reads exactly 50% and won't change. I definitely dropped that pump plug into the gas but aired it out. If I forgot to plug something in I would think the gauge would read 0, not exactly 50%. Any advice is appreciated.
It sounds like something may be disconnected or poorly connected, but I can't say for sure
@@nickdoeseverything431 thanks for the response. Actually I filled up the tank and drove it for a bit and the guage started working! Thank again for the video.
Great to hear! Glad it helped you out
There might've also been a sticker on the float lever that you'll need to remove (mine had one)
Late comment I know but the reason for that is the thank actually has two floats, one either side of the tank. One is on the fuel pump and the other is at the bottom of the filter housing. It probably just needed to refill itself.
This just happened to my mini today and i got the pump out and hooked it up to a 9v and its still runs, could it still be bad and not be pumping strong enough to create the pressure for the system? The auto parts stores are closed till the morning, was trying to diagnose if it's the pump or something else. Any input would be appreciated!! Thanks! Oh I also saw a cut ziptie in the tank which im obviously gonna clean out maybe it sucked that up temporarily?? its got 130k on it so it's a tired pump for sure
I would definitely say it's still possible. Mine was running right up until it quit completely but it ran rougher and rougher leading up to that point
@@nickdoeseverything431 yea new fuel pump fixed it ! prob gonna have to do plugs and coil soon too. My ac behaves similar to yours sometimes i wish it idled a tad higher to keep that ac blasting! sometimes i just rev it a bit to keep it moving with my foot, thanks for posting your exp!
Awesome! Glad to hear it! Always happy to hear somebody saved some money thanks to one of my videos
Hello,
I have an issue on my R50 2002 (non s)
When you do cold start car don’t wants to react to acceleration pedal it starts to jurk, but enginge is still works
After 15-20sec everything is back to normal, but i think thaht it should be more powerfull more reaction to acceleration pedal, and take less fuel..
No fault codes, changed spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter and still works the same,
Anny ideas ?
Thanks
You got to let the engine warm up
Hi! I have a 04 Cooper which misfires when idling - changed spark plugs, ignition coil pack/wires, cover head gasket now thinking it could be the fuel pump! any ideas? ☺️
I’m not sure what else it could be! It’s a fairly cheap option and probably worth a shot at this point! I’d say maybe try a new fuel filter first. It’s the same process as this video, but under the cover on the passenger side of the vehicle instead of the drivers side (or the opposite if you are in a right hand drive region).
Do you know if this pump also fits the diesel mini one? (2003) I took mine out its yellow
I can't say for sure. In fact, I've never seen a diesel Mini from this generation! I suspect we did not get them here in the US. I would use your VIN to search a part number through a local parts store or dealer
Anyone else get a flashing fuel light? I noticed it before i changed mine. 🤷🏻♀️
It looks like that electrical connector just rests within the tank. Is it sealed?
It has some kind of o ring on it, but yeah most fuel senders have connections in tank. Seems sketchy to me, but that's how they do it!
@@nickdoeseverything431 thanks. This video convinced to do the whole pump while I'm doing the filter.
Share link to the pump you purchased? Oem or clone is fine?
The OEM supplier was VDO (now Continental)
hi, do you need to empty the tank first??
I didn't. Just be cautious while removing the old pump as it will have lots of fuel in it
@@nickdoeseverything431 thnx!
noticed any performance change?
i was planning on changing the injectors too
After plugs, wires, coil pack, and fuel pump it definitely idled smoother and I picked up an mpg or two. It's more responsive, but since mine is a base r50 it's certainly not fast. I would try everything I did in this video before doing injectors. If you are still having idling issues then maybe go for injectors. Always best to start with the cheaper fix!
where did you get the fuel pump? I have 2005 base mini cooper
I bought on Amazon in the US. Link in the video description!
Thanks for the video, my fuel pump is starting to act up, and wanted to see if replacing it will make me want to stab myself... looks like an easy job (fuel filter was way worse).
Btw, the reason why it's so dusty down there is that it's open from the bottom so dust from the street gets yeeted in there.
Just tank you I bay my first mini work on it
