    "Doom donut on standby. Prepare to be glazed." -Lucrehulk battleship captain upon exiting hyperspace. Probably.
    Unironically though, the Lucrehulk battleship is one of the most powerful warships in the setting. It is closer in size and capability to a mobile Golan platform than a "traditional" battleship. It took to being a warship astoundingly well for a converted merchant vessel. Though, that may be in part because when it comes to star wars capital ships, bigger almost always equals better.

    It never occurred to me that the Lucrehulk we saw in TPM was unique amongst the Trade Federation's fleet, I guess I always just assumed that the other Lucrehulks we see on screen were also filled droids and fighters, but it makes total sense that they would only have one ship like that at the time while the rest were all still configured to carry conventional cargo, and it explains why they didn't have a backup droid control ship when the main one was destroyed.

    I love how you're revisiting these vessels Eck. The first generation of Lucrehulk-class Battleship was only hampered with it's blindspots not covered by the arcs of the nasty quad-turbolasers across the equatorial and aft sections. In addition to the additional reactor systems linked to the main hypermatter reactor.
    Surprisingly, the Geonosians drew inspiration from the centerspheres of these freighters for the basic shape of the First Death Star. Another behind-the-scenes fact is that the Lucrehulk-class was intended to be a thematic predecessor to the Imperial-class Star Destroyers as denoted by Times Magazine.

    I just love how useful the ship can be. It makes a great work ship, a great carrier, and while not a fantastic front line fighter it's one of the few ships with the ability to project 360 fire with main and tertiary weapons.
    These ships are so big that entire smaller shipping companies could base their organizations out of one including just having everyone live on the ship. You jump into a system, release all your smaller freighters to different planets to drop off/pickup, they all fly back to the LH and you jump to the next destination with all your ships and cargo secured. Plus these ships are so vast that they can easily hide an ocean of weapons internally and externally and mount serious shields.

It couldn't afford another sustained combat partially because of damage, but mostly because they didn't have the troops to sustain anything against a boarding action.
      The Luchrehulk didn't lose because it was outgunned, it left because it's mission was a failure, there's literally nothing left to gain and no point in sustaining more damage. The other Acclimator have forced their hand OR would have destroyed our ship if they tried to force their way aboard the ghost ship again.

    The Lucrehulk is, by-far, my favorite capital ship design in star wars. Evenly defended on all sides(at least the later versions), extremely durable, huge capacity, and it looks darn cool. They're basically a mobile battlestation, whereas other ships are weaker when pincered, the lucrehulk seems purpose-built for being surrounded. They're the perfect centerpiece to any fleet, meaning other ships can be more specialized and cost-effective destroyers. That's what I love most about CIS ships in general; they just seem a lot more practical.

    A C-9979 landing craft measures 210 meters by 370 meters by 150 meters, which means it would take up a total of 11.6 million cubic meters. If you assume that a Tri-fighter droid would need a rectangular cube to be stored propertly (and not nested together) each Tri-fighter would take up 65 cubic feet of space. So if you could pack a tri-fighter droids with 80% efficiency (like taking up 80% of the space) into the same space as a C-9979 you would be able to 144,000 Tri-fighters. The Lucrehulk, with tons of extra space and other equipment and cargo, can fit 50 C-9979 landers. So you could _easily_ house 200,000 Tri-fighters inside of a Lucrehulk. If you were to replace all the C-9979 landers with Tri-fighters it would be well over 7,000,000. If the Lucrehulk were a dedicate starfighter carrier, then, it very easily fit 1,000,000 or so Tr-fighters in if you replace everything with Tri-fighters accept what you’d need to operate that many fighters (such as extra missiles and fuel). The problem then would be that it would take a very long time to deploy that many fighters.

Always felt a squadron with one of these in command and paired with some Munificent Star Frigates would be devastating. Overwhelming fighters to overwhelm and keep enemy at a distance so large cannons on Frigates could snipe at enemies, when the enemy eventually go close the frigates could then advance to finish, and if they were lost it was not a big deal since they were almost entirely automated.

    I get they don't quite fit the usual fleet doctrine of the Rebels, but I LOVE the concept of the Rebel Alliance recycling CIS ships to utilize against the Empire. On a symbolic level it just feels right that they're not only fighting to restore the Republic, but carrying on the fight the CIS believed in and was corrupted by the machinations of the Sith, that all worlds deserved equal treatment in the Republic and not just the wealthy and the corporations. There's an element of seeking to restore past ideals, while also accepting that the reality often fell short of those ideals, and they'll need to be better.

    • @screamingcactus1753
      @screamingcactus1753 7 місяців тому

      Honestly the best use for a Lucrehulk would probably be a mobile HQ. If the Rebels are worried that they won't be able to hold a planet for long before the Empire kicks them out, they could base their planetary operations out of a Lucrehulk in orbit. That way, when the Empire does show up, they don't need to spend nearly as long evacuating before they can bug out.

    The Lucrehulk is a neat space station design that got pressganged into being a warship and they did the best they could with that. It's kinda weird that the expanded universe has a lot about them serving an important position as the backbone of the CIS fleet but the Clone Wars series never really does anything with them. The fact that they have engines to move around makes sense and kinda makes me wonder why the Death Star doesn't have any engines either.
    The whole Core Ship thing is a bit confusing; it was a nice spectacle in Attack of the Clones for a bunch of cores to be parked on Geonosis, but the whole explanation for that as some kind of regulations dodge is hard to follow. It's never really clear what the core ship adds, there's no weapons mounted on it.

    • @screamingcactus1753
      @screamingcactus1753 7 місяців тому

      If I could guess, I'd say that the core ship is there to ferry large quantities of cargo between the planet and the main ship. That way, the bulk of the ship doesn't need to land on the planet, saving large quantities of fuel as long as the core ship only needs to make one trip.

      The big sphere is where all biological and bio-mechanical species of the cis live. It also serves as a mobile factory for it's complement of droids and craft if need be. TLDR: It's the nostromo (from the alien movie franchise) to the mobile refinery the nostromo was hauling in one.

    • @tisFrancesfault
      @tisFrancesfault 7 місяців тому

      Its not a space station pressed into being a ships, its more like a super container ship (modern super bulk carrier would be able to move the mass of 5 Yamato class battleships, and two fletcher class destroyers). Though one designed from the get-go to have limited but have concealed weapons.

    • @thedaveed1
      @thedaveed1 7 місяців тому

    The Luchrehulks main problem is it is severly undergunned, yes it has lots of guns but its lacking the larger ones.
    If I were making a custom one, Id seal off the hanger access to the weak spot, add an extensive point defence battery of quad laser turrets, and mount many octuple heavy turbolaser turrets to the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the hanger arms.
    With a full compliment of starfighters as an escort it would be rather brutal.

    Video suggestion; go over the lesser known “cruiser grade” Star Destroyers from the Imperial Era ie the Vindicator, Gladiator, and Immobilizer 418 class cruisers, since the only smaller SD that tends to get a lot of video traction are the Victory-class (even though they REALLY need to be brought into canon on the big screen).

    Along with the Gozanti, the Lukrahulk is one of my all time favorite SW ships. If building a fleet, I'd quite possibly use one (or 20) as the key support craft. They'd act both as my fleet supply ships and my carriers. I'd very likely actually use one as the flag command ship. Setting one up as a command ship to head a large fleet from the second line and command on the startegic level rather than the chaos of the first line would be relatively easy. Add to that utility for invasion, planetary defense, area command ships, etc, they are extremely versatile.
    I'm also the type who might watch a battle for an opportunity to pull an "Admiral Spoor Maneuver" i.e. disrupt an enemies formation by unexpectedly rushing my supply fleet directly into a pitched large scale fleet action seemingly unnecessarily with the goal not to actually join the fight or reach any actual goal but rather just punch directly through the enemies forces and out the other side purely to cause confusion amongst their forces enough to create a window for the actual fleet to exploit the disorder. To do that my supply force would have to have ships robust enough to 1: engage the battle line, 2: survive to the other side of the formation, 3: still present enough threat after punching through as to make an ememy feel there must have been an actual goal other than just to punch through, and 4: survive while the actual battle fleet exploits the confusion and breaks the enemy. Few but the Lukrahulk could pull that off and even then it would be several of them.

    Hey Eck! Possible Video Idea, I'd love to hear about the different diseases we know of in Star Wars. There's a lot of info on bioweapons and things like Rakghouls, but not much on the everyday stuff citizens of the galaxy might see. For instance, I'm pretty sure niemodians are famous for having all types of diseases in their skinfolds. Does Bacta Help with disease? Are some Species not in contact with one another because one has a chance to nuke their society with pathogens? Idk, love your current stuff, I think there's a idea there lol. Keep killin it Eck!
