Thank you TheAxeMan for including captions, to hear what you were thinking and giving us a look into how the game's mechanics work makes this 5x more enjoyable
I’ve been using the original upload of this TAS to help me sleep for years now. It’s such a good sleep aide, and it’s also super interesting when awake (thanks to the captions). One of my favorite TAS’s.
I've played FF through more times than I can recall and distilled the game down to a cold, clinical exercise, but watching it done in a single hour is amazing. The knowledgeable commentary really shows reverence for this masterpiece. Well played.
This game makes me nostalgic of using the map cheat and seeing all the cool places to explore. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get the airship, but I did break the dam or whatever that was keeping you on the main continent.
Castle of Ordeals is reachable by the sea, which allows one to avoid long walks with lots of enemies that you'd get if walking from one of the few grass spots that the airship can land on. You can do that as soon as you have the canoe, which allows to grab the first few weapons/armor that are usable in the ITEM menu, so that you can use them in the Ice Cave & Volcano... in a regular longplay, at least.
The reason for the incorrect emulation when reaching the end of the 4 palaces is because you are running it at 30 fps, which is the rate of almost everything on NES, except for the few things that blink at 60 fps (30 blinks per second), such as this, and also MegaMan when he gets hit, among others. It would be good enough to render the blink as a 50% transparency at 30 fps, but none of the emulators I've seen can detect the blink. Also, the emu isn't always in sync with the same of the 2 states, so sometimes it appears as the solid colour, and sometimes totally invisible (which is an added challenge when I play MegaMan).
Wow, really impressive all the work that went into this TAS run! (57:44) What's with the "542" and "00:57:57,110 --> 00:57:48,774" text in that caption? It doesn't look like that belongs, and that only the top and bottom lines should exist there.
Dang, so beating Garland as a first victory battle is way too easy than I though. (I thought you need to little bit of grind more to beat Garland since he’s the first boss in Final Fantasy I)
@@GreenMan1986x Tool Assisted Speedrun Pretty much directing the game frame by frame to achieve a perfect speedun, meant as a demonstration. I'm not a speedrunner myself so I probably said something wrong but afaik that's what TAS is
Caption'd commentary should be the new standard for TAS videos! Well done!
Absolutely. Could hardcode them into the video footage but captions works just as well.
Another remaster of my TAS? Awesome encoding and as always super happy to see the love for this game.
you amazing

Axe is a true bro. Carrying the corpses of his dead buddies with him into hell and back again.
4 gingers manipulate universal law, cross a bridge, and travel 2000 years into the past to kill satan

For real, this TAS is amazing but it's also great for sleeping, idk why
I always wanted to play Final Fantasy to the end… but I never could get an hour and fifteen minutes of free time to do it.Thanks TheAxeMan!
49:40 i love that you included the naming history including Axe (you), followed by FF trivia for filler 😊

27:21 I never realized targeting probabilities were different between third and fourth slots.
I believe this version of events is canon to Dissidea 012, actually.
i absolutely loved the commentary, good run!

Is this the one with Cloud and Lightning in it?

Man I wish I knew FF1 was this easy when I was a kid playing it.
A black mage's nightmare team.
They like swords.

How? Just how? lol. Solo'd the frigin game with a single fighter...I know it's a TAS, but even still. Mind blown. Then that ending...Bane'd Chaos.
How is Axe portaging that canoe and three dead bodies during all the overland walking?
poison smoke
good moves axeman warrior
Final Fantasy I you must use inns, sleeping bags, tents, or cottages to save.

nope not even white mages
if a tas takes 1 hour, you know the game is actually long and confusing enough
The kracken is like 50 50 ink or attack. GG on the good RNG
Unbelievable...
But I always was the explore and beat everything kind of adventurer.
Run being the last thing I wanted to do
10 year old me > grinds to get all silver swords before swamp dungeon.
TAS : wHaT's ThIs ShOrT SwOrD
This could be cleaned up a bit. Still very very good luck
Holy RNG manipulation Batman!
Need to edit the captioning. Tiamat is a she, not a he.

@zschow9259 tiamat comes from established mythology wherein she is referred to in the feminine.
Cute anime girl 🥰
yeah, some cute anime girls are kinda cool, but what does your comment have to be with a ff1 tas? (just asking tho, lol)
