I think I appreciate all the notes to make an otherwise repetitive RPG much more watchable more than the actual TAS. Why isn't everyone doing that. Everyone should do this for RPG TAS's.
This amazing run and the fact that the notes remind me it's the 25th anniversary have made me want to go on a Final Fantasy marathon, or at the very least play through FF1 again.
I am well aware of much of FF's mechanics but had no idea they could be manipulated on a scale that makes the game almost boring. Impressive achievement, anticlimactic playthrough? I've rarely been so torn in my feelings on something, great work!
That's hilarious! 2 second Bane kill on Chaos with 10 HP. It's like Axe is sitting on the shitter and he gets up to quickly dispatch Chaos, then back to the shitter because he doesn't feel good.
Wow.I spent like 20 hours playing through this game. So.... I guess I was being held back by the other three guys, that's where I went wrong and I leveled up too much and that's why it took so long.
In case anyone was wondering, Axe never dying and always getting critical hits is due to intricate timing on each battle play. Nothing more. Trial and error and figuring out what works in each battle.
It has to do with the frame when the command was input. A really good example of this is Dragon Warrior, where you can completely manipulate the "RNG" using frame references and audio cues.
This is my top 1 fav game I may have only played remastered mobile ver but I still love it might as well list my whole list of fav games: Final Fantasy Geometry Dash Infinity Blade Minecraft Persona 2 Persona 3 Persona 4 Persona 5 Uncharted 2 Uncharted 3 Uncharted 4 Undertale
Im 35, just played the game for the first time (i owned a SEGA Mastersystem), i played for 6 days & 4 hours a day to beat this game, and DESTROYED this game with ease. Went Fighter + Fighter + Red Mage + Black Mage. Protips: -You can grind gold & exp vs Orges around the 'Melmond' city area. -Use the Wizard's Heal Staff near the end of your battle to heal your party to save gold instead of using heal potions. -Cast 'Fast' at the START of your battles on each of your Fighter class heroes to do DOUBLE damage EACH strike!
wow that was great, can you explain how you killed everyone with the bane sword even though some monsters are immune to it and theres supposedly a 1/256 chance? nice video though didnt think the game could be won that quick, i would still be outside the first town grinding lmao
Just to clarify : "Immune" is supposed to mean 0% chance, like will NEVER work. But in this run it means "1/256 chance to work". That is practically never for a normal playthrough, but for TAS it's doable. So stop saying "Immune", that is not right. But still awesome run, very surprising.
question, i've tried to play this on a emulator but when you save at the inn, it doesnt fade to black to heal your characters...anyone know what to do?
I don't understand is this a hacked version of the game ? That short sword doesn't even exist in the chest on the nes version i played. And there is pretty much no way any of this is making since. Did you memorize exact patching and control rng ? Even if you did why was that short sword there. I think this is faked
It's confusing. You spend the whole video talking in captions about the importance of stats like luck, but just fail to take the extra level-up that you had stocked. I mean, there was a fight on the ship against one oddeye on the way to Crescent; couldn't the time spent winning that battle result in more time saved ongoing from not having to as heavily manipulate rng?
+Shyft44 Good catch. This was definitely something I looked at. Turned out that triggering that levelup early didn't save any time - no saved rng cycles or turns in battle. If you watch the white mage run you'll see I do go for that levelup earlier.
where is the rng manipulation? where are the secret farming spots? This game was the first game i ever bought, $5 from K-mart when I was seven. I love this game and trust me there are faster ways to finish it. Maybe one day I will record and submit...
i don't see why speed running is so valued..yes we've all beaten this game a million times but do we really need to be struck in awe at someone basically saying "im better then you, I've played this more..see? see? 1 hr beaten" to me speed runs are nothing but bragging rights ( to those who care..) and nobody likes a bragger. want to impress us? do a speed run in 1hr with all white mages..then ill sing a different tune
were Raphael and Michelangelo nothing but bragging rights? TAS is art, its authors do what they do just because they like the result and the process. no one cares about whether or not you are impressed. and it's also sport. the whole "im better than you" thing is called competition. each run can be beaten by time and/or entertainment if the new guy is better. and the author of the obsolete run can return and beat the new times again.
your comparing video game playing to some of the greatest artists in history? this is not art..your not creating anything. lol i think you do care if people are impressed otherwise you would not have posted this video to a public forum like youtube. but hey if playing ff is your statue of david then who am i to disagree
video game playing is not art. tas is. tas is superplay, it uses tools to achieve results not humanly possible within game engines. tasvideos.org/TasingGuide/TASArt.html
TAS sucks. The bane trick works 1/300 times (or something like that). They just kept reverting to a save point on an emulator until it works. Please do not consider this a legit speed run. The TAS team is just ridiculous.
what's so bad about it? tases are never presented as real-time runs. they present what possibilities the games have and what a human _theoretically_ can pull off. it's just we use ALL possible tricks with the help of savestates. the goal is the _result_, and how it looks like. because honestly, no one would make such a movie at all, if without tas tools.
They don't constantly go back, they carefully manipulate the RNG in such a exact way that it works for them. It takes quite a bit of knowledge, actually.
yea, there were a couple drinks involved before that comment was posted. My bad, it is quite impressive. I was watching speed runs and I ran cross it and got confused. and flaming lemons, I understand that it took a bit of knowledge.... duesch.
Vicks, Biggs and Wedge died before the ten minute mark. I should have seen that coming.
I wish more TAS videos had the closed captioned notes. It's wonderful to be able to read what tricks are being done in a video.

feos tas
You, good sir, rock. Thank you for this.
feos tas you are awesome I've been looking for these for a long time.
I prefer the ones with spoken commentaries tbh.
@@feosTAS bro i speak spanish and that username is so funny
Love the CC notes. Especially cool for those who already have a good background on the mechanics of FF1.
Absolutely amazing author notes. Most fun I've had watching a TAS in a long time.
I think I appreciate all the notes to make an otherwise repetitive RPG much more watchable more than the actual TAS. Why isn't everyone doing that. Everyone should do this for RPG TAS's.
Thanks Aethelia24! There is a list on tasvideos.org that includes my Crystalis and Ultima 4 NES runs: tasvideos.org/Commentaries.html
This amazing run and the fact that the notes remind me it's the 25th anniversary have made me want to go on a Final Fantasy marathon, or at the very least play through FF1 again.
hip indeed I beat it three times 😂
The FF1 world map theme is based off Wind Beneath my WIngs by Bette Midler, which came out in 1982, right before FF1. You can't unhear it.
Nope
I am well aware of much of FF's mechanics but had no idea they could be manipulated on a scale that makes the game almost boring. Impressive achievement, anticlimactic playthrough? I've rarely been so torn in my feelings on something, great work!
You have mastered this game to a degree that is nothing short of scary. Lol well done, loved every second of it.
brianbernsteintv it’s possible to beat this game in 12 minutes not even needing this skill lmao
That's hilarious! 2 second Bane kill on Chaos with 10 HP. It's like Axe is sitting on the shitter and he gets up to quickly dispatch Chaos, then back to the shitter because he doesn't feel good.
Dayumn, that is some nice NES speed painting in the ending there.. !
All the months I spent on this as a kid. Over a year to beat the game. All the fights, deaths, magic spells, and leveling up.
Wow. Just wow.
I like the part where he used Bane Sword.
LuxStein used that the first time i ever beat Tiamat
the commentary is awesome. the best tases have detailed and humorous commentary
Wow.I spent like 20 hours playing through this game. So.... I guess I was being held back by the other three guys, that's where I went wrong and I leveled up too much and that's why it took so long.
Whoa this is still a TAS lol
You Made It! Darkness!
The captions are great for this.
bravo axeman i didnt think it could get any faster

Thank you for a great interactive transcript.

I remember I used to spend hours leveling up. How did you get through this so fast without wiping?
Curious, what level was Axe at the end of the game?
15, last levelup is on Lich 2
Because AXE IS AXE. NOTHING BEATS AXE!
I could fall asleep to this

This is a masterpiece, holy shit
wait doesn't Kraken hit you harder if he debuffs you with Ink?
I feel like a Cait Sith speedrun here :V
Я и не знал, что на денди была игра, похожая на сеговские фентези стар.
question, i've tried to play this on a emulator but when you save at the inn, it doesnt fade to black to heal your characters...anyone know what to do?
You need to save in the emulator
You got there in 18 min which took me 8 hours.....
TAS improved by 9.11 seconds? Feos did 9/11 confirmed!
Amen.
Four heroes?
In this adventure only one knight do all. Axe. Even without axe.
But he must take with him three bodies.
How come the monsters keep missing Axe?!
luck manipulation
cool beans
What? Speeding through every bit of text and skipping out on all the exp ISN'T the way to play the game????
Reecer77 it is the way to play the game everyone is doing it wrong tbh
Great!

How come when enemy attacks axe, he doesn't get damage?
Nhan Pham enemy missed attack

DOOK - lmfao dude thinks he can beat a TAS with the power peninsula 😂😂😂
DOOK this guy types at the speed of light you really think you can beat his speed at typing 😂
spergtastic
The music in this game is painful and much of the game is ridiculous fetch quests.
The perspective that age and a TAS video gives...
1987 masterpiece back then vs the dinosaur RPG's released before it.
This was made in 1987 do you expect full orchestra music?
@ANTHONY For its time, and even today(subjective).
Run Run Run chicken Run if you gonna play a game play it right !!!

ive seen that happen. in fact believe he beat chaos with one mage left on like level ten to win the fight, and won by having chaos flee
bill BILLYBILL this wasn’t even legit lmao
bill BILLYBILL also he did do a speed run in an hour with 4 white mages in just 9 SECONDS LESS.
Replace "speed running" with my username and your comments are perfected.
so much cheating
anfromanx1981 it’s called a TAS idiot.
