  • In this video I tackle the oil around my throttle body and intercooler charge pipe.
I also black off my EGR valve using a blanking plate and create some ducting for my air box.
If anyone does know my cause of the oil getting into the intake please leave a comment and let me know thanks :)

Nice video for anyone considering an EGR blank or a throttle body clean. I had the same engine on a Citroen C5. Blanking the EGR definitely resulted in less smoke and better idle for me. On your video at 12:33 you can see a sensor in the throttle body. Its called an Inlet Air Temperature or IAT sensor and it looks like its covered in a layer of oil. Next time you are cleaning the throttle body I suggest you remove both the MAP and the IAT sensor from the throttle body assembly .Use an electrical contact cleaning spray on the IAT. Electrical contact cleaners do not leave a residue behind, normal cleaning sprays do and can mess up sensors readings. You can also use the same electrical contact cleaner on your MAF sensor on the air intake box. Spray them to get the crud off , lightly use a tooth brush if required, leave them to dry for 15 mins. Try not to touch the IAT or MAF internal sensor, the sensor itself looks like a wire resistor, if that makes sense.

EGR has many benefits, one of them being cooler combustion temps at low/partial engine loads and variable displacement, with 50% EGR effectively reducing your engine capacity to 1/2. Fuel economy increases etc, the list of benefits goes on and on.
And you shouldn't have blanked the EGR, you should have just drilled a 7mm hole in the plate and put that in place. You would pass emissions but it would significantly reduce EGR enough to prevent problems down the line until the car was sent to heaven. To me, it's better just to install a 150ml reservoir catch can with a 1 micron filter.
The way to resolve the oil coming into the intake is to redirect the PCV system through a catch can. then you only need to perform maintenance on the catch can and replace the filter every 40k km or so.

I blanked the Egr, but took it out, it took forever for the engine to warm up on short journeys, no good in the winter

@@craigprince is it behind the engine? where is the best access to have a look?

Hi, Ive noticed since I removed the air inbox snorkel and blanked egg when I give it a bit of revs I can hear the turbo a lot more. Like a Choo which I didn't think id hear tbh with both cat and DPF in place. Usually get that kind of sound with a full through exhaust.

No idea if the air intake does extend out. But if not it's probs not the best idea to block part of the radiator if not necessary. I could be wrong tho. I'm not an expert just so you know lol

I have now removed it. I don't think it was blocking to much of the radiator however, I have removed and also removed the plastic ducting to the air box. A lot louder intake noise now and seems to be a tad more responsive.

My Mondeo 2.0 air intake is just like yours, it has no extra pipe. I have had the car10 years now and always been like that.
