Face Oils - What's Best For Your Skin Type?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- This is the second part to my Skincare Chat about Moisturizers and it’s all about Facial Oils. These are powerful ingredients that really require a good understanding of which work for what skin type. They are supremely nourishing but some facial oils can be drying and straight up astringent, while others are pore clogging or cause skin irritation, sometimes severe. Continue to keep in mind that we all have different skin and the ability to tolerate different ingredients. The categories are SIMPLE guidelines for you. A lot of these oils have multiple uses and fall under more than one category like the oils in the anti-aging one which can also be for dry skin, oily skin etc.
Since my skin can only tolerate certain oils that many others cannot, rather than featuring the oils I use, I would rather explain what is out there for all skin types. This video is purely to help you recognise ingredients in other oil blends out there or moisturisers.
Hopefully this can give you a simple guideline to the oils we hear about and see the most in formulations. If you’re using severely drying treatments like Retin A, Peels, astringent or prescription acne treatments, the right oils can really return the proper moisture back into your skin. Many oils are also great at reducing inflammation and irritation. I can’t stress enough that when buying oils, you are getting what you pay for. Some oils like Argan are so labor intensive, if you find a cheap bottle out there, it’s over processed and diluted with cheap fillers.
These fabulous oils are in a lot of the products I’ve reviewed and mentioned in previous videos so stay tuned, I will do another video with my favourite oil products.

She is right about Argan oil causing acne or increased rosacea, and she's the only one I've heard mention this. Everyone else seems to extol the virtues of Argan oil ad infinitum, but I tried it and it honestly has caused breakouts on my chin AND not helped my rosacea. It also always felt oily on my skin, but rosehip seed oil feels "dry," and hemp oil also feels dry, so I cleanse my face with hemp oil and use rosehip for anti-aging only at night.
Elizabeth Elliott Argan oil helped healing my acne alot faster plus it actually penetrates my skin. Unlike coconut oil which caused acne and felt like a greasy film. You mustn't use much argan oil. Or you skin doesn't like argan oil, maybw Jojoba or another oil will help you.
Mehhhhh it differs for every person,Just cause she says these doesn't mean it's true, is she even a licensed dermatologist or aesthetician?
I wish I could watch this earlier. Recently I just bought Argan Oil because they claimed that they can controil oil production and I didn’t know it’s very high on oleic oils which makes my face still oily after using it & even caused breakout.
Same with me for Argan oil! I’ll have to try rose hip oil and see if it works. How long before results were seen from rose hip oil?
Just another example of how skincare is definitely not one size fits all! Going gluten free greatly reduced my rosacea, but adding argan oil to my usual hemp oil for cleansing was the next most helpful thing I've done.
It was thanks to this video that I had my “Aha!” moment regarding jojoba. My face does NOT like it! It’s great on my hair and cuticles, though.
Six months without jojoba, four months with argan, and this is the mildest my rosacea has been in over a decade!
Your skincare videos are well thought out and you are really good at explaining things and I can tell that you make a lot of research to give us the information we need , thank you I can't say it enough 😊
+foggytime Zzz You are so sweet and thoughtful! Thank you!

She is the epitome of skincare guru!!!
It is as if she is the only one who studied into these oils. Despite the huge amount of webpages that I've grown through
I love that you are so educated in skincare and not just reading and regurgitating something you read off of a blog. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Renee, I love your work, the dedication and knowledge you put into these videos provide such a high quality content, thank you so much 😊.
Thank you, I really appreciate this so much!
Are you even a doctor? Dermatologist?
HOW TO BE YOU, Ms. Renee??? You are a COMPLETE PACKAGE! Beauty and brain! Life can be so unfair!😉
Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to share this with us!! This was very helpful. ♥
I never use them during the day. I'm surprised you recommend serum+oil+ moisturiser+ solar protection. I will try it!
My skin is quite dry but still young (barely 20) but the oils I've ever used are argan oil and rosehip oil. They're doing well for me and hopefully not too heavy for me..
she has the best looking skin i ave ever seen
Thank you so much sister for sharing good product of skin. How to buy the face oil. Please tell me the ingredients of face oil and link
Very Helpful / Informative Video ... Thank-You❗😌
great video! what do you think about prickly pear seed oil?
Hey, what about the borage seed oil? I ordered it from the ordinary today, but I can’t find as much about it on the internet! Also would you say that we should put the moisturizer first or the oil?
Hi. Thank you for sharing. What do you think about sesame seed oil? :)
Great that I find u bt what type of olive oil should I use?
Can I use dry oil if I got dry sensitive combination skin?
What face oil that is matte finis. Ive tried tatcha it makes my face oily under makeup.
Should I stop using argan oil for my hair? Because I have oily type of skin and I'm starting to have breakouts (again!) on my jawline to neck😢
I have dry skin with large open pores on my cheeks pls advise

@@LoveConquersAll888 awww thanks lol no problem!
If you mentioned coconut oil for oily acne prone skin, I was going to scream!!!!!!!!!! Thank God, someone who knows what they're talking about
+Danielle S Haha! I've done some screaming from hearing that!
I love how silky and smooth argan life pure argan oil makes my hair! I love that I can also use this on my dry skin, and it is not greasy at all! I am so happy I had the chance to review this product!
is almond oil good for normal skin
Gothamista hello there i have a normal skin not oily not so dry what oil should i use in summer time prior using a sunscreen and also for night after cleansing.
Danielle S lol I know coconut oil is great but can irritate the skin on your face, for your body if you don't have a sensitivity to coconut oil is great!
99% of the videos I see on here talking about this drive me crazy. You can just tell that these people probably google 'best oils for your face' and spend ten minutes reading about it but have no actual understanding of the oils themselves and the real pros and cons to them. Your video deserves a lot more attention. Thanks so much for being this thorough and educational! Most people still have no clue what they're putting on their skin (A VERY IMPORTANT ORGAN) even when they've been told it's healthy for them by some big youtuber lmao.
+Ara Hi! Thank you so much, I really appreciate your comment! The only reason I have so much interest in oils is because all the blends from brands are marketed to be moisturizing, anti-aging etc. only to find out the hard way that my skin was getting drier and I started to break out...and I don't break out. I agree that many of us don't know what we're putting on our skin until we learn the hard way.
couldn't agree more!!
...skin ain't an organ hun
aymxn of course it is. It’s our largest organ.
@@luzysombra5291 you my friend... are correct and I will learn from my stupidity now let's not bring this up ever again 😭🤚💅🏽
I used to spend so much money on Korean skincare products, but I decided to try going natural and switch over to all oils. My skin has never looked better! My favorite is a mix of rosehip and sweet almond oil. I love how minimal my routine is, too.
What is your skin type😊
Hi Erika, have you considered using monoi oil?
i feel like I just meditated to her voice lol
Yes, agreed. So calming and reconciling
Sooo true..
Does coconut oil helps dry skin.
I have acne, sensitive skin, and dry skin 😭
tinaa140 I have the exact same skin. right now I'm trying to get my skin in shape. I use a bentonite clay mask mixed with apple cider vinegar. I know you don't want to use a clay mask because your skin is dry but the clay sucks out the acne, the Apple cider vinegar helps pH. I mix my moisturizer with organic cold pressed rosehip oil. 6-7 drops at night. 3-4 in the day. helps with scarring and moisturizes.
tinaa140 Yes, dry skin can get acne too. You need to moisturize, very important step for anyone with dry skin.
tinaa140 I know your pain
Me too ahhh
Me too!!!
good video!
People with oily skin must remember that they should wash their face only twice a day. frequent face wash can lead to drying of skin which will send the signal to create more oil. This can be counter productive.
Also, a gel based moisturiser is a must to maintain skin barrier.
Just came across her channel today I'm 51yrs with premature aging skin, oily, acne prone skin also sensitive skin, The Dr. mentioned rosehip oil and jojoba oil for this skin type. Is there anything else I use.
And I follow you ma'am... you're a great doctor ✨
Mam which oil is best for combination skin
Dr aachal, you've suggested products that can only be taken with prescription, your suggested products are usually comedogenic and drying,
Try not to comment everywhere.
My skin is combo, it’s oily in some areas but also kinda dry in others. In the winter, my skin becomes pretty dry, to the point I can see it slightly flaking off. Does anyone know what I can do?
Your skin is so flawless, looking at your face is a hobby ❤️😝
What do you think about Vitamin C serums?
I would love to hear her thoughts on VIT C serums
Me too!
She uses one and says it's great for people who want brighter skin or have acne scars.
love the diy vitamin c serum!
I've tried Vitamin C serum to brighten up my face but I ended up 2 shades darker than my natural colour. So I stick to Olay regenerate luminous after using it for 2 weeks I'm so happy with the result my skin feel very soft and brighten.
Another beautiful video! I am perpetually amazed by the amount of information you are able to pack into each of your videos; you're easily one of my favorite youtubers for that very reason! I cannot get to this channel fast enough whenever I see there is a new upload! Keep up the amazing work!

what about tamanu oil? I hear of its healing benefits and had worked tremendously for my friend who was having so many breakouts on her face which got out of control.
I found this video on Canny cleanser chart - there are plenty more great videos there that will help out
Thank for this very informative video. I love how you don't blabber and say useless stuff. Also, you have such a lovely face! I swear, you could pass as someone in their late teens or early twenties. Annnnd you look like you could be IU's (Lee Ji Eun) older sister/mom.
Yes! Camellia oil is the best! I have very dry skin, and camellia oil and jojoba oil are the only oils that work for me. The rest just sort of sit on top or even irritate my skin.
I forget jojoba oil which mimics the skins natrual oil so it’s is good
I love her smiles
I keep rewatching this video for references, it's so useful! Thank you so much for making this video!

Super helpful! I just bought jojoba oil I hope I'm not covered with pimples during the holiday. I wish for a glowy, moisturized, zit free face! U have beautiful skin! I'm sure a lot of that is genetics.... lucky u :)
Francescadbg Jojoba oil is low on the comedogenic scale so it won't clog your pores or cause breakouts, you're good.
how did the jojoba oil work for your skin??
damn I'm never gonna remember all of this
Caitlyn just remember the types that's necessary for your skin
I hear ya...
... I am writing all these notes down.
just pick one or two oils from ur category and try those out that's what I did.
Thanks for the video! Really informative, and I love your voice! Ummm what about some other facial oils that have been pretty hyped lately such as black cumin seed oil, tamanu oil and kukui oil? I would love to know what you think about them as well :)

I use rosehip oil as my nightly cream. I have oily skin and hormonal acne, and it really helped with uneven textured skin, scaring, uneven skin tone, etc. I know it is more for mature skin (and I'm in my 20's) but it works wonders so I'm keeping it! When my skin gets irritated, I use calendula/marigold oil. It's great for any type of irritation, it worked wonders overnight for a friend who had a really bad sunburn on her face.
Eden Zak, I use it too despite I have slightly oily skin. I do Dilute it by blending it with pomegranate oil with is a less thick version, and grapeseed oil. Sometimes I'll make a honey lemon mask, mix with fresh aloe vera, or add coconut water before. All deoends in skin needs at the moment. LOVE how my skin oils balances, glows, plumps, and hydrates. :-D
I also want to start using rosehip oil. Which brand do you use?
Rosalia, it's a French brand but I live in Europe. I don't know if it's available in other parts of the world.
say.n0 korres wild rose it's a bit pricey you can get at sephora but let me tell you a little goes a long way I only use one drop when I apply on my face
Thank you. I bought one from amazon last month and tried to mix one drop rosehip oil with 2-3 drops jojoba oil. But I got small irritations on my skin (really small mini pimples all over my cheeks). So I am wondering which one caused it. I will try to use both separately.
I am binge watching your videos and I must say your videos are very informative. I am into korean skincare recently and your videos really helps with what I should be trying next.
❤️Much love from Philippines.
I'm so happy to hear that!
While I like using essential oils, I'm so happy someone mentioned that lavender essential can be harsh (I don't use it). I'm also glad you mentioned how citrus oils can be phototoxic. Not all of them are phototoxic (sweet orange oil is not). Most of them are phototoxic though, especially depending on the distilling method used. Again, I'm so glad someone finally decided to include this. Essential oils can be useful but only when used properly.
This was a fantastic explanation! I have a combination of skin because it is oily and acne prone, but seems to be dry after using commercial acne products for years. For two weeks I've taken out all products I previously used (hidden them for now, including cetaphil), and use a homemade olive oil based cold cream (it does have lavender, but doesn't seem to irritate at all). Despite olive being better for dry rather than oily skin, my skin has healed most of the acne I had and some redness in my lower jawline from the powerful acne topical medication I used ten years ago is going down.
I'm intrigued by rosehip, jojoba, grapeseed and avocado! Tea tree is fabulous as a spot treatment.
Thank you!! I have similar skin to you, so this is really cool
I have similar skin! Olive oil is good but stopped it for a while as I want to try a lighter version. And yes, tea tree is amazing for spot treatment
this is the best description I've heard for face oils. Great job, just subscribed.. wish I watched this video before I burned my face with pure tea tree oil!

I know! My whole life I avoided oils because of my oily skin but it turns out that it really helps. Especially, rosehip oil and tamanu
Did u use tea tree oil..what did u combine it with?

Just a note for whoever needs it- tea tree oil doesn't suit everyone; it caused breakouts for me
olive oil Cleansing (not using as a leave-on moisturizer) is the number 1 thing i give credit to for healing a massively bad cystic acne breakout i had a few years ago. olive oil cleansing is so swell
As moisturizer it feels heavy. Going to try it as cleanser now. Thank you

I'm 19 and I use jojoba and rosehip oil lol I didn't even know they were used for antiaging!
j vall I learned in beauty school that "anti-aging" products should start to be used in our 20s. If you think about it totally makes sense. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! So your skin should be amazing for so long!
Courtney McLaughlin i use argan oil everyday and i didn’t know it was for anti aging, but i’m 15. is it fine?

if you could recommend only one or two oils for combo acne prone very red skin what would you choose?
If you're still looking for oil, you should go with grapeseed oil and evening primrose oil. They're high in linoleic acid, which is what oily skin is lacking.
I have the same problem
could jojoba oil work as well?
I cant stand how my skin looks , its full of big pores, acne and red as an apple. Without foundation my face looks like it got a really bad sunburn

I am loving herbivore botanical facial oils, they have a Lapis oil that is great for acne prone skin. I also use their phoenix oil and orchid oil. Those don't break me out either. Their oils are natural and cold pressed.

This pure Moroccan oil gives life to my hair and my skin. My hair was so dry and now its shining. It also moisturizes my skin and no any side effects. a must try product.
Hi can i ask what oil should I use if I have combination and acne skin? and could you recommend any oil that help to erase acne scar? thanks!

How do you use this step by step
bless you Renee, out here saving lives and faces
Is it best to get cold pressed grapeseed oil? Or any? I'm having to change absolutely everything since I found I'm allergic to coconut and castor oil
Coconut seems to be in pretty much everything, its killing me not being able to shampoo my hair it's so disgusting as you can imagine x
THANK YOU for a great and informative video. A lot of my own research aligned with what you said. Rene, you said you work in the product and development side of the beauty industry. Was all this info gleaned from the job? Or did you do additional research? I ask bc I'd love to read those papers or articles. I'm a bit of a bio/chem nerd😁.
Yes, I'm a geek too! Mostly, the interest in finding out this info was because I had so many problems using oils. I found the marketing to be so misleading yet the market was so abundant with all these oils that my skin was not reacting to properly. So out of frustration, I needed to find more out!
Gothamista thx for researching all these facts
wat abt combination skin w/ acne, large pores, black heads n mature skin?????
Mana Gurung You should invest in a mud mask or bentonite clay/ activated charcoal masks. And stick to lighter oils.
Thank you so very much for this enlightening video! I have a teenage daughter who has struggled with acne for a few years now. I have had a really hard time getting her to stay on a skincare regime for more than a few weeks. The information in this video helps me immensely with educating her.

You are the only skincare/beauty UA-camr I trust when it comes to recommendations. I can tell you do a lot of research and know exactly what you are talking about!! Thank you
my skin is sensitive and prone to itchiness and blemishes (break outs not so much), I've been using rose hip oil to treat my skin and my acne scars that I got from my younger years, so far it's been okay, I've seen the scars get less and less deeper, but would you recommend me to change my face oil into the ones you listed for oily and sensitive skin for better results? Do you recommend a place to purchase high-quality oils?
Finally a youtuber who knows her stuff! You're now officially my beauty guru
I just found your channel, your video is very informative. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
I know that Rosehip seed oil does not make me break out at all. I have combo/sensitive skin and when I feel that my face need some heeling after a break out roseship seed oil helps heal my pimples and fade the scars :) Rosehip Seed oil is the only oil I use on my face because I never break out with it :)
+GueyshArt Rosehip oil is really one my favorites too!!
Yay! It's the best! It heals my acne and scars so fast :) I also use it when I have an irritated scalp and it helps to calm it.
I love rosehip seed oil too. It has really helped to soothe my acne, balance the oil production and promote lightening of post acne hyperpigmentation. I believe it is because of all the natural antioxidants.
Carol Smith Same here! I love this stuff! I especially only use on the days after using makeup! It helps to calm my skin from cleansing the makeup off and helps keep pimples at bay! Also using Witch Hazel dries up pimples the next day!
the BIGGEST TIP FOR EVERYONE out there!!!
make sure your face is wet and then tap on the oil onto your face, it will seal the water layer beneath the lipid layer, therefore your skin will keep being hydrated.
it can be purified water, thermal water, rose water.
xoxo
Sweet almond oil moisturizer for me! 😃❤️
You sound like 30s but you look like 20s. I believe you! :D
Maracuja is pronounced "mah-rah-coo-ya" :)
I have dry skin w large congested pores. It's sensitive yet stubborn, breaks out but is always dry. Pale and red w constant skin buildup.. combo skim but extreme. I've spent years trying to help it. I use salicylic acid, hyaluronic acid, then maybe a bit of argon or grapeseed oil. Gentle manual exfoliation like once a week. It has improved but still breaks out in t zone especially eyebrows. Any advice?
Maybe oil-based cleanser. Maybe soonjung skincare line would suit your sensitive skin. Maybe consult dermatologist.
Could you please recommend some brands for the oils? After trying grapeseed oil I saw miracles on my skin, but once I got through the bottle I couldn't find it again in North America. I tried other grapeseed oils and did not get the same results at all, because I guess they were not good quality. Please make a video on different brands for oils

I have oily skin but not acne prone and I've been using Argan oil but I don't really notice a difference and it feels like it just sits on my face. I was thinking of switching to Jojoba oil. But I have a question about apply face oils, I've read that for people with oily skin, it may be better to apply a face oil after your moisturizer to lock it in. What's your opinion on that?
i am not an expert but argan oil is too greasy for you if you have oily skin..jojoba is better but there are also lighter oils.. and please do not use oil after moistruiser..it is just too much for skin.. i think that in the video oily skin is considered under oily/acne prone section.. i have very sensitive but oily and acne prone skin..and i have been using grapeseed and chesnut oil mixed together..but i would like it to be at least one or two months of using it to give my opinion..so far it is great.. i think that you should do research..just type the name of the oil in google and see for what it can be used.. think of your own skin while reading it and then try to estimate..everyone is different so you have to find something just for you..
