I love how they FINALLY started to leave the card on screen while they continue to talk about it!
Kenrith transformation cantrips because it's from Eldraine, the set where green theme was having 3 times the amount of words you would expect on every card
That’s SO true 😂
It certainly lived up to the story book flavor...
I’d love to see the part 2 to this! Can’t believe Nature’s Claim isn’t in the top 30.
Makes us sad 😭
Sorry for asking, what top 30 did Nature's Claim not make?
(I'de say green swords to plowshares has to be top 30 one for removals isn't it?)
@@xirtakeht Top 30 most played statistically, not their top 30. It would likely be pretty high in their ranking.
Yes definitely a part 2. Nature's claim is SO underrated! any time im browsing the bargain bin at my LGS and I spot the printings from TSR or worldwake I always snatch them up for cheappp. Also thanks to NN for pointing out how Heliods intervention is 10x better than return to dust, that just won me a game recently.
Facts
Whaaaaat? Plot twist. In my opinion angiushed unmaking is one of the best 3 mana spot removal spells. Definetely would have given it an a
I want to give it an S because of the exile
It's very powerful, but it's cost makes it restrictive. I'd put it in A imo
Its 100% because its a strixhaven card, but as far as blue spot removal goes resculpt is now the best in slot and hopefully it begins to rise up the edhrec popularity.
Yeah we are with you in that!
It was kind of funny to watch the moxfield logo just creep along, “yeah i’m great spot removal, thank you”
It IS S Tier!
Guys, I don’t watch a lot of MTG content anymore but you guys always make the cut. I feel bad for you that you had to mention not once, but twice, about people having opinions and that it’s okay to disagree… it is only a game after all and these videos are meant for entertainment purposes so the fact that people have obviously been rude to you on several occasions is disappointing to say the least. I wonder if those people would have the mental fortitude to put themselves out there every day the way you guys do. Keep up the fun content! By the way, my dog was pretty disappointed that you forgot to say “happy birthday to all people’s pets” on his birthday…his name is Oliver and he’s pretty cool about it haha.
Krosan Grip may be good against counterspells, but it truly shines against activated abilities. Someone holding the table hostage with Aetherflux Reservoir? Blow it up without fearing the 50 damage. You can break combos and stop other powerful abilities.
Since white got Archivist of Oghma and deep gnome Terramancer in baldurs gate, ive been so high on path to exile in white again. Having deep gnomes alone makes path ramp you as well, adding archivist to the mix gets you 1 life and a card as well. 5 mana risk total investment for 1 life, 1 card, and 1 plains ramped has made pathing my opponents creatures feel so good
Those are two really good points!!
It also turns on white catch up ramp later in the game if that matters
Binding the Old Gods has been one of my favourite removal spells, flexible removal and non basic ramp
I think you guys under valued Despark. I would definitely put it at least top of C. In mid power levels almost all the threats you want to hit are 4 mana or above. It hits any permanent type so lots of flexibility and is one less than other super flexible spells. Definitely better than the other spells you have at C at least.
I've always liked Vindicate since its first print in Apoc. It was the first spell I ever saw that explicitly said, "destroy target permanent." I run the MH2 alt art version in my Liesa deck because it's on-theme, and because it's part of a "permanent" removal suite.
I would value destroying a land higher when it is tacked on like that to Decimate because it's nice to set back a player who is ramping ahead of the pack.
Thanks for keeping a image of the card on screen while discussing it! Makes listening along, opposed to strictly watching, much easier. Thanks, nerds
Wonderful video, looking forward to part 2!
IMO a good tech to help with chaos warp and wild magic surge is weathered runestone. Both reveal the cards from the library, meaning they’re still in the library, so they won’t enter and stay on the top. Be cautious that the runestone itself doesn’t nonbo with your game plan tho
Do a part two guys! There are so many popular removal spells left out, and I'd love to hear you talk about them!
What about tragic slip? 1 black instant for -1 -1 on a creature but if a creature died, -13 -13. Helps to get rid of indestructible creatures and only one mana if used nicely.
Listened to this while building a mono green deck got to say perfect timing, thanks nerds!
Definitely do a part 2 of this video!
I’ve been waiting for this video all year I finally got my happy birthday wish, thank you ☺️
Excellent list and I don't know what you're talking about you're 100% the authority and Commander.💯
I think Terminate and Bedevil have their place in straight Rakdos, but nowhere else. There I like their versality over some monored or monoblack options. I will also play the best monoblack and monored spot removal in the same deck obviously, but they can be part of the suite too.
How many single target removal do you guys think should be in a deck?
Lightning bolt only sees so much play because it's a spellslinger, storm and burn card I think. I don't ever really see this card outside of that. I think when you're already copying/storming/magecrafting/pinging, this card goes up in power tremendously.
No it see play because it was meme on Star city games
The lovely tension of the slowly approaching Moxfield logo
Looking forward to part 2. I seem to remember you guys advocating Soul Shatter as an underrated card and it has performed very well for me. I will be curious to see if that makes the list since you are going off the most played spells for Commander.
thoughts on druid of purification? it's rec sage, but for 1 more mana, and can get rid of up 4 things on board potentially while also getting rid of your original intended target. of course if everyone chooses the same target to spite you, its a 4 mana rec sage.
This is point-by-point pretty much exactly what they said in their last video
they mentioned it in this video 31:11
We are probably higher on that card than anyone else 😂
It also doesn’t target so it gets around hexproof and shroud. You also choose upon resolution so they can’t respond to what you choose. Amazing card. I throw it in all green decks
Part 2 for sure, would definitely like to see your perspectives on more spot removal
Gained a lot of information from this video 👍 appreciate you guys
Vindicate being a sorcery doesn't bother me, it hits any single permanent on the field, I think it's worth only playing it on my turn for that versatility
I’ve been dying to see a video talking about this! What suite of removals would you guys run in Mardu colors? Also what do you think about Crackling Doom?
I'd run Blasphemous Act, Vanquish the Horde, Ruinous Ultimatum, Anguished Unmaking, Generous Gift and stuff like that
@@kingginger3335 Oh, didn’t know wipes were considered removal. Guess I have more removal than I thought lol! How many spot removals do you run?
Crackling doom isn’t bad but I’d recommend trying Soul Shatter instead. Doesn’t do the shock but it’s easier to cast
@@rafaelcarrilho4151 personally I run about 3 or 4. Depends on the deck and colors. But then I try to run a few other board wipes. Also, Crackling Doom is really bad spell
@@ayllipkhieu8659 Also very importantly soul shatter hits creatures (and planeswalkers) with the highest mana value and crackling doom hits creatures with the highest power which is very relevant. Like sometimes crackling doom will just hit some dumb token that doesn't matter while soul shatter will snipe that seedborn muse.
I would like too see another tier list about those charm cards.... Like abzan charm, rakdos charm etc.
Krosan grip is just a mono-green card. In the archetype the extra 2 mana doesn’t matter too much, but being able to stop Bolas’ citadel through counter spells is beautiful. I get that it’s almost strictly worse than say nature’s claim but split second matters a lot more when you never have counter spells to back yourself up with.
Good video, and what you said about krosan grip got me thinking about priority and how it works. Maybe you guys could do a video about it
How would you rank wild magic surge? A 1 mana cheaper version of chaos warp, although at the cost that it’s more likely to incidentally reward your opponent
Can't wait to see you guys this weekend.
Can’t wait to meet you!
Glad to see the cards remaining on the side, love the layout!
Vindicate depends on the group but mine plays cabal coffers, gaea's cradle and glacial chasm whenever possible so being able to hit problematic lands really makes the difference.
Amber is an S tier creature. Love the videos where she makes an appearance. And when she gets her own neon name tag.
Yeah you guys should do a part 2 right away, cuz Casualties of War should be included. I get massive groans from the table when that card comes out.
I think we need a part 2 of this video. So many cards left behind. Tks for the good videos
No problem ❤️❤️❤️
Descimate ist fantastic, as soon as you got an "arch enemy from the beginning" at the table. To destroy a mana rock and a land of this player often gives a huge politics advantage.
Haha I was literally searching for spot removal rankings on this channel yesterday. Good timing! Am I the only one who thinks that Hull Breach is underrated?
Krosan grip bad? Split second is one of the best keywords in the format and this is probably the best combo-breaker in EDH
@Dimitri Klockenbring Yes. Mostly of the 2-card infinite combos i can think of involve at least 1 enchantment/artifacts. On top of that...in my opinion most of the strongest cards it can remove without a sweat of a counterspell Ex. Smothering tithe, top, aetherflux res, doubling season, mind over matter.. the list goes on
@Dimitri Klockenbring but come on it should be on top C though there Sorceries
Fun topic. I built Kros, Defense Contractor partially around all the spot removals that replace your good stuff with creatures (Beast Within, Angelic Benediction, Pongify, etc). Remove threats, then goad the leftovers
Seeing all of this is what keeps my "Redirect" in my decks.
Hull Breach is something I consider undervalued. Maybe not for the creature-heavy decks (and in RGx, that's a lot of decks), but removing two things for two mana is a very good rate, even at sorcery speed.
I love that one
Omg, today is my Birthday! thank you so much!
Beezy needs to up his shirt game when the other guy rolls in wearing a crazy shirt like that
PART 2 PLEASE!!!! You already talked about one of my favorite removal spells Resculpt, but I would love to see where you place my favorite pet removal spell Lethal Scheme.
I kept thinking Maelstrom Pulse was going to show up with how many token strats there are now. Ass Trophy and Pulse seem like a good 1-2 punch against Field of the Dead. Great list! Thanks guys
Daaaaaamn
I really thought that i'd agree with you more, considering that i normally do. But my opinions are way off on this one.is there a way i can do the tierlist myself?
Hi NNNNNNerds I'm putting togther a Zevlor deck, would any removal spells make it to S tier if they could hit 3 targets instead of 1 for an extra 2 generic mana?
I'd love to see a Removal breakdown with a few of your decks as reference. Disagree with the Krosan Grip. I play in counter HEAVY meta so it's in almost all of my 6-8.5 power decks....along with nature's claim 😃👍
The problem with bolt is the same as its best feature: it gets to go face.
That is extremely good when you have to go 20 to 0 real quick, but when the life total goes to
25 or 30 (or whatever is in brawl now) its usefulness starts to fall, and commander has you face a total of 120 life to whittle down, and 1 mana to deal 1/30 of the total really doesn't cut it anymore!
Also, I think Krosan Grip's appeal might be cEDH-related - or at the very least, relevant in combo-heavy metas. When someone is about to combo off, Grip might be the only way to stop them.
3 mana in cedh is so unplayable
What do yall think about bounce spell as a form of removal?
I kind of understand the krosan grip hate, but on another note, as a blue player I’ve lost several games because I couldn’t respond to one of my powerful artifacts or enchantments being removed this way
will you redo these ranking series when more cards come out ?
I remember you guys talking about Masked Vandal when Kaldheim was released and I am wondering how you guys thinks it holds up in comparison with Reclamation Sage? (Didn't see it in this video, of course, not a lot of people play it according to EDHREC so wouldn't make sense in a top 25 spot removal tier list). Being one mana cheaper and exiling instead of just destroying but with the clause of needing to exile a creature from your own yard is a really interesting tradeoff that I would love to hear your guys opinion on! Personally I haven't had the opportunity to playtest it as much as I would like but I am wondering if you have had any success with it? If any of you guys have actually gotten around to trying it out ofc :)
Personally I love it in tribal decks since it'll synergize with your game plan also (unlike Reclamation sage) and you'd have a lot of creatures anyway. I think the downside is that it's not "free value" when flickered. If you don't need its creature type I'd say Reclamation Sage is still better.
Something about the moxfield guesses, I only take one guess within 30 minutes of the video uploading and as I'm watching the intro. It makes the game more fun to add restrictions like that.
I'll watch it later but just by skipping to the end, I always miss "drown in the loch". Am I drastically overrating the spell because I love modality or did you not include it due to multipurpose?
We didn’t include it because we only had so much time and space. We talk about missing a bunch of good ones in the video
Drown in the Loch is so good. Autoinclude in any dimir & sultai deck, and a heavy consideration even in esper & grixis. Definitely an overperformer
It’s only good in mill decks. Feels really bad when they don’t have a big enough yard when you need it.
Surprised Abrupt Decay isn't on the list. It's 2 mana and can't be countered. There are lots of amazing 3 mana or less cards on the battlefield to hit with it.
Edit: it is B/G, but its a highly played color pair.
I've found a pretty underrated yet decent single target removal spell: Vendetta. It's pretty much Snuff Out but you always pay a black for it. I play it in a 5 color deck where I can't reliably have a swamp on the battlefield and it works wonders. Best part is its only 25 cents so it's real cheap for all the budget players out there.
The double masters alt art for terminate is reason enough to run it for me, even if its a card with such limited scope
Broken bond is good one that can be kinda backbreaking if it pans out right in the early game
Also hot take: chaos warp distinctly better than beast within/gen gift. It removes industructible and it has a good chance of getting nothing, a land, or a low cmc permananent. Also they cant recur whats not in their graveyard
Agreed
Beezy really carried this one. It's like Joe Cherries wasn't even there.
I love this video! Would force of vigor be S tier?
i see chaos warp in S Tier cause the fact that you can cast it on your own permanents to safe them. Or imagin you have Zada on the battlefield with some tokens^^ that is so much fun
I am curious: in your guy’s opinion how Mach life is one mana worth
Cherries that intro was gold. Perfect timing haha. Bonus Amber appearance
So many of the sub b tier work in my meta...but resculpt!?! How did that slip by me
My daughter was just born today. Thank you for the birthday wishes… Coincidentally I purchased a collectors pack of Baulders gate to open when she was born. Just so happen to pull an Ancient copper dragon so things are looking up lol.
What do you think about Wild Magic Surge? Better or worse than Chaos Warp?
Definitely worse than warp because they're guaranteed to get something, but still good for mono red imo.
Very surprised to not see Heliod's Intervention or Nature's Claim in the top 30 wow!
Does anyone else play councils judgement? I love that card but I feel I’ve got a false impression from the amount of times I cast it when I had a leyline of anticipation and reused it with eternal witness
What tier do you guys think Dismember is in? (pay 4 life and 1 black for -5/-5)
25:05
Lightning Bolt is a Vintage staple too LMFAO, beast of a card
Krosan Grip and Lightning Bolt are both great in my Krark deck, but that is literally the only deck I have those cards in.
would love to hear your thoughts on imprisoned in the moon.
I can't believe anguished unmaking is a B. For me this is the definition of S tier. It literally is an auto-include in any deck of those colors. It's just better then generous gift and beast within if you're in orzhov colors.
I really disagree with penalizing cards for being multicolor
I don’t see anyone mentioning it in the comments (sorry if I missed it) but it seems like there’s some audio interference in the video. At first I thought it was my Bluetooth speaker, but it’s still there when I play the video through my phones speaker as well. Just wanted to point it out since this is unique to this video in case there was something with your setup that caused it. Great video as always!
Part 2, I'd like to see where Oko places with his elk ability!
One thing you guys always forget is that with those creatures like rec sage you can tutor them up sooop easily in green
I’ll just say, when it comes to removal, play to your meta. Tier lists for removal are definitely more controversial because not every playgroup goes against the same threats/win cons. I’m pretty much set in my ways for what older removal, but I might try decimate. Baleful Mastery has really impressed me too.
Baleful Mastery is awesome. Instant speed exiling is great. Yeah, it's 4 mana for the whole cost or 2 and card for an opponent, but hey - you're removing the most scary thing for you, so why not. And rarely you can even student cost Tassa's Oracle and deck it in responce)) And underestimating Split Second - hey...you can go infinite with Basalt Monolit on a stack to any other removal, you can infinite mana, life and draw your library with Staff of Domination, Umbral Mantle will provide you infinite mana and enormous dork..in responce! But yeap - your meta is the perfect answer to the card you should play. Just some rules as exiling is better than destroying, lower mana is better than higher and versatility is also important.
Due to my LGS meta I evaluate my removal with consideration of if whether or not it can be cast with Gaddock Teeg or Void Winnower in play.
Gross
I think it would be better, if you do a tier list for each colour and combination. Thats better to overlook.
I hold kenrith's transformation in a special place in my heart because I've played it on kenrith. It was beautiful
Opinions on desert boon?
Thoughts on Price of Progress?
Hey, this is my birthday video! I've been waiting for you guys to wish me a happy birthday ❤️
Happy Birthday!
Hope you enjoy it! 🥳
I’m curious on settle the wreckage. Based on what I’m seeing you probably thinks it’s horrible but it’s a bias bored wipe on your off turn. My friends play aggressive and that’s basically a steal-turn. Yea the crack back could hurt but u get to clean their slate and leave them open first.
Thoughts on Darksteel Mutation?
I really like "Nature's Claim", but not till now I realized how close it is to "Disenchant". So is NC better because its green?
one mana is probably the reason
@@kennellfrederick4367 ohhh, i thought disenchant was 1 mana
Glad Joe came around to decimate. I get that all 4 permanents need to be on board, but tell me a time when there aren’t problems of those types around?
Next video I'd like to see you talk about the multi-target effects like Barrier Breach, Reckless Spite and so on :)
Edit: surprised you didn't mention Slaughter Pact
Anything we didn’t mention was just because it wasn’t in the top 25 on EDHREC :) but generally we don’t play much Slaughter Pact since it’s really three mana
Need Part 2, for sure! Also, would it be possible to change your TCG Player affiliate link into a TCG Player Buy-This-Deck List (even though it’s not a deck) please? Why? Then it’d be in a list format and people could still arrive at TCGP on your affiliate side. Still why? Because the pictures of the cards are too pretty to remember them all by the time the video is done. Hell yeah, I watch until the end! NN Forever!!
Correction, black cannot answer enchantments and even less so artifacts. While every other color has some form of tutor and creature destruction. It's really annoying.
What about Void Rend? I know highly restricted to esper colours, but can't be countered is a big reason why dovin's veto is so widely used.
