Can I request the cards being talked about stay on screen before being placed into the tierlist? I'm not sure what the best placement would be to not obstruct anything, but I find myself having to scrub back and forth to reread the card sometimes. Idk if this is something that had been considered, but I'd appreciate it, and of course I don't expect you all to go too far out of your way if it's too troublesome. Either way, thanks!
Seconded!
Thirded!
Fifthted!
I was just thinking the same thing…there is no reason to move it until you move on to the next card!
7thed (or 29th?)
haven't even watched yet and I already know halimar depths is getting an S+++
ngl Halimar Depths in Yuriko HAS killed people tho xD
halimar secretly was so good. Being able to hit my lands or curve was a godsend.
Myriad Landscape it's a jewel for me. I use green in a lot of my edh decks, and that's a "must" card. When I use it in my Yarok's landfall deck, it's just blows everybody minds.
My favorite thing to do with Gier reach sanitarium is to activate it in response to a thassa's oracle trigger
Came here to say this, knew it had already been said, haha. Yeah, ontop of being a handy loot effect on an etb untapped land...its very good anti-thoracle tech. GRS should be rated a least a little higher imo
Cephalid colosseum is better in that anti thoracle slot as it forces draw 3, most thoracle combos can still leave 2 on top and eat a loot before still winning. Draw 3 puts them at a point that they leave 3 in their deck and if they don't have the devotion they don't get the win or go to 2 and lose...
@@egoish6762 cephalid colosseum is def. better, especially if you expect to see thoracle. But GRS is colorless and has more use outside of that aspect. I just wanted to mention it since it wasn't mentioned in the vid
@@matthewbell4897 my point was any thoracle player will probably only fall for GRS once as it's an easy play around, so i don't really see it having an impact outside of, an admittedly quite fun when it works, gotcha moment.
why not talk about shizo, deaths storehouse and the other legendary lands? Shizo is basically a better rogues passage for voltron and yuriko and the other ones are pretty great too. Do they not count as utility lands?
Sunhome, fortress of the legion. Is one of favorite utility lands. I will randomly give other players creatures double strike. Especially if they have a beefy commander.
I play thespian stage in basically all my commander decks, I rarely build a deck that doesn’t have lands I’d be happy to have more than one copy of, and the copying others lands is gravy
Worst case it's a basic land....its in all my decks as well
Worst case scenario its either a basic or a dual, best case you copy someone’s coffers or a bounce land is even good value. Such a good card
@@Ceyx000 my favorite targets are field of the dead and lotus field, but bounce lands and lots of powerful utility lands are good too
I've been waiting for months for it to be my birthday just so you guys would say happy birthday to me
Happy bIrthdat!
I think you're under valuing Myriad Landscape. It is ramp in a land slot, it is ramp that finds other lands, and it can be activated at instant speed. Might not be as powerful of an effect as some other lands, but it has more, reasonable homes than almost any other card on this list. Also, it gives you 2 zombies off of Field of the Dead late game, or can find a snow and regular basic to get Field online, so that adds even further to its value
As someone who played it for the longest time before cutting it, it just feels so bad to have to skip a turn to play it. Especially since it doesn't line up well with the way other ramp works (which is something like a signet on 2). In this case you have to crack this on turn 3 when you might want to be playing your commander or wait until later and at that point you'd much rather be doing stuff on each of your turns. And then in addition it's also a tapped land and doesn't give you any colors. I would much rather be playing an untapped dual land. I like it in mono color decks though because you're usually lighter on ramp you are even able to play
Kessig Wolfrun is at least B tier imo. Definitely better than command beacon, high market and I want to also say inventers fair but i havent played with thag one before
Agreed, I have made Birds of paradise 5/6 and doubled it with Xenagos to a 10/11 Haste Trample Flier... my opponent was so surprised but I quickly reminded them to always bolt the bird! LOL. Kessig Wolfrun is a great card and can come out of no where if used right :P
It is in b tier.
It's definitely not better than inventor's fair
Try to view this list in a meta that relies on a non-combat, combo-centric and alternate win-con meta of cEDH.
@@derrickwarner1 these guys dont do cedh tho
Spot on about proliferate. I run PnT walkers and I've cut stuff like Thrummingbird and Tez's Gambit. E Sage, as you note, is still worth it.
Fair assessment of Reliquary Tower. It should not be ubiquitous. I run it one deck (Minn).
Stage/Depths is definitely scarier in 60-card formats.
I would argue Field of the Dead is A tier. It’s really good, but it’s pretty bad in mono color or budget lists. S tier would indicate a ubiquitous value in any deck, and I think FotD is too specific. Budget and mono both run too many basic for Field to generate Zombies, and a player just tossing it in because it’s S will find that it’s a tapped Wastes there.
That's a very specific case for it to not be good. In pretty much every other case it's incredible.
Just started following you guys on Moxfield! And it’s my sons 5th birthday!!
Grave Titan- makes two Zombies on turn 6
Field of the Dead- makes 0 Zombies on turn 6
Remind me why Grave Titan- isn't better 🤔🤔🤔?!?!?!
They over hype field of the dead. Its a terrible card in most decks unless you're playing 15+ turn games everytime.
Implying that I can only use command beacon once, how silly^^ My Crucible of Worlds disagrees with that statement sirs, let alone the many MANY options if I'm in Green.
I like Maze of Ith. It's an old-school inf. mana combo with Krosan Restorer and similar cards. I play it in Windgrace and the combo powers up my Wolfrun and Dark Depths!
no Gavony Township or Vault of the Archangel :(
Beezys smile the entire field of the dead explaination: 😁
Dudes, I have had Kaalia stolen from me several times now. I have played the deck only 5-6 times and had her stolen at least 4-5. Blue loves to play the “gain control of” effect! Even if they don’t steal your commander they may steal your big stompy. The player who does a lot of this finally told me “You need a Homeward Path”. It is not only Kaalia that can get stolen. My very first edh game a player on an early turn played something that caused us all to gain control of the commander card to our left! Homeward path will shut it down and you don’t even have to sac it to do it! You guys should show some love to a card that can keep the fun in the game! (Though I’m sure blue guys have fun taking your commander).
You talked about Thespian's Stage, but where do you land on Vesuva (pun intended)? Similar, but works slightly differently.
Muldrotha loves Command Beacon, because you can keep playing the Beacon back out of your graveyard. Also, no Bazaar Of Baghdad? No Diamond Valley? No Mishra's Workshop? No Tabernacle At Pendrell Vale?
They picked the most popular lands from EDHrec so obviously they didn’t pick the ones that cost thousands.
I feel like if Cyc Rift were ever banned, Req Tower would start to decline in usage rate. I think a lot of people play it because they don't want to lose cards to Cyc Rift.
Mystic Sanctuary = Infinite turns in my Orvar deck thanks to boughtback whim of volrath plus an extra turn spell
Lol, I bet people wish they had Homeward Path against my Marchesa, the Black Rose deck 🤣 The deck revolves around taking the board’s best creature attacking the opponent within highest life, sacrificing it with a +1/+1 counter on it, and keeping the best creature on my end-step. I throw in fulminator mage just in case they have one of these or for some rinse and repeat land destruction. My steal effects double as card advantage and pseudo removal. I need to add High Market and Pharexian Tower to really oil the machine. People usually crack back at my shenanigans but that just helps keep me from having the highest life total. 👍🏻
Great video. So you know bojuka bog is a house is power lvl 10 and cedh.
If you had 4 or 5 cards that you would want to discard in your self mill deck would you run geir reach sanitarium?
Yall are WAY too high on field of the dead
Yeah it’s not as good as they say. I’m assuming they’re saccing the zombies for value but even then
Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx goes in all my 2+ color decks. Surprised you didn't mention it.
I think a cool land could be one with “Landfall: Add one mana of any color.” You can’t tap it for mana or do anything else, and if you miss a land drop you miss out on mana, but it can be like a tapped command tower that can activate more than once per turn if you get multiple lands on your turn.
so its a Lotus Cobra, but a land? Would be interesting to say the least on top of being very powerful due to the general lack of focus on land destruction for most players.
@@randymotter51 yeah essentially. I feel like it would even somewhat fit into a deck without a bunch of ramp cards just because of fetch lands.
Lotus Cobra on a land sounds insane. Any landfall deck it’ll be absurd
@@baconsir1159 keep in mind it doesn’t tap for mana and if you miss a land drop you probably don’t benefit from the land. But yes, it could definitely ramp well in the right deck.
Sounds pretty busted, as already mentioned fetches would push this land over the top
what do you think about Cabal stronghold and
Crypt of Agadeem? where do they go in the list ?
Cabal Stronghold is like B+. Gives you colorless mana at the minimum and turns into a mini-Cabal Coffers late game.
I'd say B for Crypt of Agadeem if you can fill your graveyard very quickly in a black creature oriented deck. You'll have to use self mill engines like Mesmeric Orb , Altar of Dementia, Buried Alive etc ... to really make it work. I won't throw it in any mono black deck.
Myriad landscape is great cause it turns elvish reclaimer into essentially a 3 mana land dork, on top of all it's other uses (T1, Forest, reclaimer. T2, land, activate reclaimer to get myriad landscape. T3, land, activate myriad landscape. Now you're 2 lands in the yard, and one land ahead on the board)
Thats 5 mana btw, because of myriad activation. Doesnt seem worth tbh
I keep saying it, but... You really seem to be missing how important/impactful halimar depths is/can be with cascade. It's huge, in cascade decks (which historically contain simic, therefore amazing ramp) moving the sol ring off the top to run into something bigger and spicier is 100% worth it. I know you don't like to dabble in budget too much, but as an alternative to top, it's great.
its probably pretty decent in decks with a good way to shuffle their deck also!
also decks that might care about the top of their library like yuriko, aminatou etc...
Excited to watch and curate my mana bases!
Note field of ruin is one of the few cards to FORCE a shuffle from for opponents, killing all to the top tutors
Garbage unplayable bro play cabal coffers broooo
@@jamesgratz4771 I am not saying it isn’t bad, but in a format dominated by tutors it is far from garbage, getting rid of a cradle while fizzling an vampiric tutor… yes the low end is ramping 2 players, but in higher end pods one extra land on turn 7 isn’t as bad as you would think
I think you're giving Karn's Bastion not quite enough credit. It's super solid if you play it in a deck that cares about counters and keeps mana open for answers- like, say, Ezuri, Claw of progress, or, to a lesser extent Atraxa.
If u rapidly hit 0:00 , you can get some sick beat boxing from Joe Cherries 😎
Hall of heliod's generosity plus underworld breach almost feels like cheating
Lost me on the first card. You guys are starting to show why you miss judge a lot of cards
Glacial chasm is the biggest omission here. It doesnt go in everydeck but it straight up beats a good amount of decks and even stops a good variety of combos. Insanely good with crop rotation.
Zedruu with homeward path can shift a game very suddenly lol
Shoutout Shizo, Death's Storehouse
Neither of the haste lands? Odd.
We did the most played
@@NitpickingNerds oh, makes a lot more sense, then. Heh.
I sometimes use Ghost Quarter on myself to trigger Landfall again.
Sanitarium is there to stop thoracle. When they mill their library you activate the sanitarium with thoracle on the stack.
To be fair that’s a cedh thing mostly but still comes up sometimes.
I was cool with no more nick names eventually, but dang ,no more tid bits? I'm sure I'll grow used to it again, but Even as big as the command zone is they have the end step . I know it's daily, but still, idk .
It's worth noting that you can use rogues passage on enemy creatures. Really funny if you are playing a goad deck, or a deck like Breena. You can also just ambush people sometimes. No one pays attention to the rogues passage when it's not your turn.
Hey nerds, thanks for the premium content as usual! What are your thoughts on Karakas (comes in untapped, taps for white or to bounce a legendary creature)?
It's banned in EDH because it's too good bouncing everybodys commanders. But it would obviously be ridiculously good if it were legal
@@1ntegrator that makes sense.
Surprised to see high market in the A slot. I think it's too specific in what it does to be A. I would have graded it B
I'm right there with Beezy on Field of the Dead. It's just free extra value! So good.
I wish there was a Wirewood Lodge for goblins, I’d use that with Krenko in a heartbeat.
Krenko is already absurd enough.
I also like Strip Mine as a rattlesnake. I've gone back-and-forth with this issue, but currently, I believe it's appropriate to ruin the person who is threatening to take you out. However you come down on this issue sets the precedence for future games. And, I would prefer my opponents think twice about killing me.
I think you're a bit misunderstanding field of ruin or any other land that does similar effects like demolition field or volatile.
Not only can it be used to destroy their triome or dual lands you force them to play into a mono color it does suck that they don't come in tapped but yours doesn't come into tapped either and guess what with that said field of ruin or similar card can mana fix you into the colors you need and guess what this is an optional effect for your opponent If they don't have a basic they can't put a land from their deck
Also this card forces your opponent to shuffle their deck say they stack their deck with their scrying abilities say goodbye to that
Also another thing don't forget why I feel the ruin is ruining your opponent's fun All those S tier and A tier and B tier lands that you just mentioned yeah ruin gets rid of those and forces them to play a basic land so say goodbye to all your utility lands and creature lands.
I wouldn't say that Its S tier but I would say it's a B tier land.
"Oh, Hi Mark-et"
Rogue's Passage is an all-star in Yuriko.
Love you guys, helped me build decks to be able to play with my friends that have epic commander decks!
Reliquary tower is a meta pick against decks that run Jin gitaxias
I like having Reliquary Tower even when I don't really need it because I like not having to decide what to discard
Ever time I hear joe say card I die… caryyyrd!
Y’all did Maze of Ith dirty. It can give your creatures pseudo vigilance by untapping it after damage resolves.
Next time could you guys keep the card image on screen the whole time? Good video otherwise 👍
With the new Mycosynth Gardens, lands like Vesuva and Thespian's stage are completely busted as it give two more chances (more if using sculpting steel, copy artifact etc.) to clone artifacts so you can drop like four defense grids in commander so it costs every player an extra 12 mana to even swing at you add it with other stax pieces and you're immune to interaction by virtue of it costing like 20+ mana to even do so.
But it's any artifact so you can use mycosynth and thespian combos to do anything, even more deadly with mycosynth lattice in play as you can copy anything on the field multiple times.
The seedborn with alchemists refuge is exactly my goal in simic ezuri
Field of the dead is pretty good in super casual play but in higher tier metas it's just a tapped waste that might get you a zombie maybe 2. I've tried it in dozens of decks and it slows me down more than anything even with no duplicate lands in any of my decks. It's just too slow and doesn't get enough value at all. Personally I'd give it a C at best. Some of these feel way off base. I've tried field of the dead in around 35 decks and only my landfall deck had any luck with it. All my other decks would just use it for 2 or 3 mana through out the game and maybe 1 or no zombies. Valakut is better than all the lands on this list. It shuts games down unless it's removed you will likely win. It's way too abusable with dryad of the ilisian grove or prismatic omen. My valakut lands deck always beats my field of the dead lands deck and the are very similar. In other words grave titan is better than field of the dead at base value. XD love you nerds keep up the content I love to hear your opinions on some cards cause you 2 have very unique opinions on a lot of cards.
Is there a part 2 coming?
We will see how this one does
I feel like you misplaced alchemists refuge. I agree it's a little niche, but I tend to play it in either big bomb decks, or decks that can be really explosive if they can untap with your commander. You guys misspoke a little, it enables you to cast ANY applicable nonland card from any applicable zone.
You underestimate maze of ith and overestimate field of the dead
You might right our opinions are not final
What about Emeria, The Sky Ruin?
I know i'm late. But I expected to see Deserted Temple and it wasn't even there. I mean, the more budgetless your deck is, the better. It's a silly land card.
Command Beacon is A-tier IMHO. Really good against Drannith Magistrate in cEDH
I did this to cast my Winota and get around Magistrate. Lmao it was awesome.
I guess this is part 1? Some of my favorite utility lands and some interesting designs of lands over the years
Winding Canyon- Alchemists Refuge- Emergence Zone
Myriad Landscape- Blighted Woodland
Gavony Township
Mirrorpool
Lotus Vale- Lotus Field
Deserted Temple
Lake of the Dead
Homeward Path
Academy Ruins- Volrath Stronghold- Riptide Laboratory- Unholy Grotto- Hall of Heliods Generosity :P
Karen’s bastion with Felidar Retreat, maybe throw in a Doubling Season and Parallel Lives
I like maze of ith a lot more than you I have it as a solid B although I don’t count it as a land so maybe I wouldn’t have it in this list at all :P
😂 Into the order of alphabetical. It’s alchemist refuge is first. Love you guys!
You lose a lot of credibility not just in this video but all others by putting Maze of Ith so low.
Reasons to play homeward path
1. Someone's playing Tergrid
2. See #1
What about arcane lighthouse? Remove hexproof and shroud... yes please
they are so wrong on their field of dead take, it is better in mono color decks than in 2-3 color decks
Was there no Moxfield ad mid-video? I wasn’t fully paying attention.
Is Homeward Path a good answer for someone running Beamtown Bullies, maybe?
It’d be cool if you also had the price of a card up when you’re talking about it.
Utility lands are my biggest weakness, I will disagree with so much on here :D
Ya didn't have to do my boy Alchemist's Refuge dirty like that :.(
I throw command light paws because she gets removed alot.
COMMANDFEST VEGAS BABY!!! Ya'll going?!?!?!
I run an Alchemist's Refuge in my Simic Inifnite Landfall deck to enable 'win on the spot' stuff on opponent's turns, especially using Ghost Town as the bounce for the combo. It's mostly used when I've already got infinite mana, but it can be used tactically. I'm not sure if I'd really want this card in almost any other deck, but if you can expect to have access to infinite mana only on your opponent's turn (or have access first during an opponent's turn), which feels niche. I run Field of Ruin in that deck too, the deck wants the landfall, and finding an Island can be worth the trouble as the deck is fairly budget.
Ghost Quarter is a card I've never run, but I'm starting to suspect it might not be a bad idea to throw one of these in, being colourless sucks, and the effect is openly bad in most pods, but sometimes it's really good I guess?
Halimar Depths is one of the most frustrating cards I've ever heard of... there is nothing like the frustration of revealing 3 bad cards and not having another cantrip in hand to get past the block, meaning your Delver deck is screwed and actually knows it, I hated this card so much in my Mono Blue Delver deck, I had foreseen glorious plays, where I play it tapped turn 1 and set up my Delver flip for no extra resources. Actual practice revealed that this card is hard to justify, at the minimum it needed to be an optional effect, and maybe 'pay 2 life and this comes in untapped but doesn't reorder', having the option would make it not garbage. I can't really think of that many decks that care about their top card, but those that do might enjoy this, you can also blink it I guess?
Karn's Bastion/Proliferate in general is indeed fairly small, but if you can generate enough value off of an individual Proliferate effect, it can be worth running. I dream of building a Magosi deck at some point, and I'd need sources of Proliferate to turn that all important first counter into many to generate infinite extra turns (making up for the 1 it cost you). If you aren't somehow generating game breaking power off of an extra Proliferate, 5 mana is a huge chunk of mana to pay. It's also worth noting that in a deck that expects to have permanents with counters out, yet also expects to hold up interaction, this would be a great. It'll feel bad to hold up 5 mana, but you can run both Bastion and various counters that cost more mana (and cheap ones I suppose to double spell), and finding a land is easy if you've got Green. I use Spectral Sailor's Draw 1 sometimes, and it's handy if you're holding up interaction and don't need the spell, you just draw and move on. Proliferate can be made better than Draw 1 maybe?
Mystic Sanctuary being part of a cycle is hilarious, it's so wildly better than the other ones that it has cEDH decks built around it, as in it's a part of win cons. Why would they make an easily fetchable land allow for infinite extra turns if you've hit the arduous total of 3 other Islands. It's too low a bar for such a strong effect.
I threw a Rogue's Passage into my budget Kosei deck, I think it'll be a good fit, he can technically be tiny but very worthwhile to actually get in with. I guess some Voltron colours aren't great with evasion, in those decks it feels pretty solid.
I think a lot of people will get salty if you recur Strip Mine a lot of times. I suspect 3 uses per turn (Azusa for example) is probably as many as you can do and not be triggering people's 'Mass Land Destruction' detector. I don't run Strip Mines generally, they're pricey and aren't necessary for most pods, but when you need them you really do need them. I do play against it sometimes, and it does suck if you're getting singled out by 3 Strip Mines per turn cycle, but I feel like it's acceptable in High Power, so decks that are 7-9 power level, and decks at that power level can be expected to recur a land if it's worthwhile, they are usually fairly high budget and High Power has few restrictions. My Tatyova deck runs Dust Bowl and Graveyard recycling effects to wipe out lands later game, but I'm usually going to win right after and wanted them unable to interact or something, it's more a perk than a win con, but it can make it much safer to go off.
I appreciate the well thought out comment
first
Specifically watched this video to see if my favorite land, halimar depths, was on the list. Then you put it in Poop tier? Wow.
Maze of Ith's best use is on your own creatures. It's great if you have an attack trigger on an otherwise fragile creature (Kaalia, the new Chun-Li, etc.). It can randomly screw over Voltron decks because it's colorless (so protection, except that given by Giver of Runes, doesn't help) but mostly, it's for your own creatures. You can do some really wild stuff like attack with a first striker + a Lure effect and then remove your creature from combat after first strike damage to kill something. But these are the best homes. We are a looooooong way from the days when this card was restricted in Vintage because it brought games to a screeching halt.
homeward path is awesome in elesh norn where if it gets stolen you lose
High Market protects a creature from Exile effects.
hmm commander is really strong in my titania(since she brings back a land from the graveyard when she etbs), but don't use it outside of that cuz it is in ways worse then a tapland don't think I agree on the b part in most decks it's just not good enough
If cards are more of the same id still put pictures in for screenshot references. Just a tip idk if you agree
What do you mean?
@@NitpickingNerds academy ruins, volrath stronghold and another got 1 picture. Cause they do more or less the same thing. After i watched the whole thing i screenshot the rankings. But after a bit of time. I might forget you stack 3 cards into 1 picture . So putting 3 different pictures in the endshot might be worth it.
Idk might be just me 😝
@@NitpickingNerds also im really hoping for part 2 and 3 and 4 :P
Didn't even mention Oran-Rief which is my favorite land for counter decks, unlike crappy proliferate this adds counters for 1 mana instead of 5 mana.
Mystic Sanctuary is my main win con in my orvhar deck
What if halimar depths was an mdfc, where it entered tapped as a land but had the effect as a sorcery on the other side?
Phyrexian tower is a colorless land. How many lands besides Dryad Abor is actually colored?
As far as I know arixmethes is the only other colored land.
I use Rogue’s passage in my Voltron Jared Carthelion deck and my dimir ninja deck. Perfect add for both
Is wasteland not here or am I just blind?
Like you said, maze of ith is good in decks where you play crop rotation and so on. It really gets amazing in a lands matter deck with cabal coffers and urborg, since you almost always tutor for urborg at some point and then your maze can even tap for mana. Add a commander that can use mana on enemy turns and maze is the absolut best
The most Strip Mines I've played per turn is 5. With the Cat Daddy of course.
