Haha the last one is my favorite as well. Minimalistic but yet bold with the legs and wood panels with the heavy grain.
The gigant is also beautiful. Reminiscent of Arne Vodder sideboards with the painted panels.

Yes, I (Andreas) really prefer the Kofod sideboard. Sadly the craftsmanship is kinda crappy for a 10k sideboard. It’s beautiful, but personally I would buy a Danish piece instead. The Danes knew how to make furniture.

13:56 Recessed pulls. Furniture has pulls, not handles. 16:52 We call those drop front doors. I really like that last sideboard. If it were to have any other details, then there would be no reason to use rosewood with that beautiful grain pattern. Sometimes less is more.

I (Andreas) totally agree with you on the Kofod sideboard, but Sanna isn’t a fan of minimalism :) The 501 looks great in a picture, but sadly, the craftsmanship isn’t that good. Frankly, it’s kinda crappy for a 10k sideboard. Still, I would love to have one, but I wouldn’t pay that much for it.

I love your videos and I appreciate the episode on sideboards. If I could make a modest suggestion, you could develop some more specific adjectives for things that you don't like. Often you use "boring." You do well with the analysis of the the qualities that you like, and it would be of interest to viewers to have a bit more on what you dislike about the pieces that get a thumbs down. In the case of several of the sideboards, for example, the discussion seems to be about whether the piece is too understated or understated in a way that does not detract from (complements?) other pieces in the room. Looking forward to the next episode.

I love your videos!!! So educational and well produced!! May it be possible that you put some light on Design i Basel, for Example Dieter Wäckerlin with his Wood Workshop Idealheim or other Swiss Designs!! I would scream of joy :)

don’t know why she’s bored and looking for fun, ‘good design’ is not always ‘fun’ and it’s not like going to a disco party, the last one is a masterpiece

..while looking deceptively simple. This is the kind of piece that makes people without any design experience say: "EvenI could have come up with that"! .. ( But of course they could not in a million years)

Haha yeah, I (Andreas) love the Kofod sideboard. The shape is marvelous, and I love the minimalistic aesthetic without unnecessary mumbo jumbo.

You guys forgot the Trio by Nils Jonsson for Troeds! An iconic Swedish Sideboard.

When you see the last one you say "hell yes" then you hear the price (used) and say "hell no".

Hahaha Sanna is really not on board with this episode. I have a Niels Moller 20 sideboard, what's your opinion on that? What is Sanna's perfect Scandinavian sideboard? Most of these will have been chipboard... You can't make huge dimensionally stable sideboards without the mid century materials like chipboard, I don't think it's a comment on their quality of materials.

We call it particle board here in the US. A lot of high-end furniture is made of particle board with expensive veneer wood. Most people also think that anything made with veneer and not solid wood is low quality, but that opinion is based on ignorance as well.

Haha well, I (Andreas) wrote this episode, and Sanna isn’t a fan of sideboards in general :) Personally I really prefer the Kofod sideboard, but the craftsmanship is far from great. It looks high-end, but the quality isn’t better than the cheaper pieces produced by Seffle. To be honest, I wouldn’t buy a Swedish sideboard. The Danish ones are in general much better. Model 20 is indeed a nice piece! Minimalistic in the right way! And regarding chipboard. You’re totally right, nothing wrong with that. The problem is just that most Swedish manufacturers used low-quality material and veneer thin as printing paper.

@@ScandinavianDesign101 Yes, I was wondering because there are some really beautiful Danish sideboards, but I guess the Scandinavian ones are more like copies kind of like those made in England.

The second sideboard I think looks plain because it's not Brazilian rosewood, and often the other forms of rosewood from that period bleach far easier in UV and don't have as dramatic figuring. Additionally all the solid wood banding, legs and frame all appear to be stained beech, rather than rosewood.

    • @ScandinavianDesign101

Yeah, you’re right. It’s definitely not Brazilian rosewood. And absolutely, I doubt the solid parts were made from rosewood. The only good thing is that no CITS certificate is required when selling one of these today ;)
