- It's time for repetition time. Today we're gonna be ranking EVERY Shell Cup in the Mario Kart series, something that's relatively easy to do considering there's only 4 of them! This is the beginning of the retro tracks, remakes of previous tracks we've covered already, and since we HAVE to start with some beginner friendly courses, these tracks aren't gonna be that great. Honestly if this series wasn't popular already, I don't know if anyone would want to see a video on JUST the shell cups, but here we are!

That was the initial plan for the DS original. They replaced that with the portrait ghosts because of technical limitations.

Toad's Turnpike is essentially Moonview Highway but... worse. Think of it as the difference between your mother and grandmother giving you candy. Your grandmother gets you the best type of candy in the world while your mother gives you the sh!t that you don't like... idk man I just felt like commenting 💀
Moonview Highway is in the BCP! If you want, instead of playing the shell cup, go and play VS race and pick Moonview Highway instead of Toad's Turnpike
They're literally the same though, MH just has better visuals and music. Both have a generic layout, and both have traffic that's so easy to avoid its like its not even there.

I imagine they thought long and hard about those choices.
This is a contender for worst cup in the entire series it is by far the most basic and generic

Finally back. I agree on Ghost valley 2 and Mario Raceway. Two tracks I enjoy playing on. I honestly home Mario Raceway returns in the next game with Ghost Valley 3

Honestly I'd say GCN Luigi Circuit is a downgrade because it feels like they made it way too large compared to the original. In Double Dash it was a lot smaller which facilitated more chaos, Baby Park in this game had the same issue.
To be fair, every gcn track besides Daisy Cruiser feels too large when remade in retros
@@Fall_Cake Well Wii and 8 had upscales due to the increased player count. But I think they were scaled well and fit the mechanics better.
I think DS having the worst of the retro cups made sense. It was the first game to do it, so the developers probably didn't know what courses would fit best for the retro cups, and the changes a lot of the courses got were going to be minimal due to hardware limitations.

There's a change in GCN Peach Beach. There's no big warp pipe for an extra item box when you get out of the warp pipe. It was at the start of the race
My brother in meat, GCN Luigi Circuit was butchered in DS!
It removed the alternative roads and the road is too wide so you rarely interact with the racers behind you.
Also, NO SPECIAL ITEMS THAT MADE THIS TRACK SO ICONIC!!!!

But when you tell "snaking" to a Mario Kart fan, they'll think about MKDS.
So I guess what you refer to as Double Dash's snaking is just a mechanic that ressembles snaking, but either way it didn't give players the same feeling, or it's not as broken as in DS.
@@CaptainRillaboom MKDD definitely controls differently to MKDS with regards to snaking. For one thing, there's no hopping in MKDD, and I personally prefer the controls of MKDS, but the mechanic gives racing (especially straightaways) more strategy throughout both games, so I don't think that makes Luigi Circuit more fun in DS, especially considering OP's complaints.

I like Mario Kart games but I still think the courses could have been a little better in Mario Kart DS, 7 and 8 so here’s my take on how the shell cup tracks in each game it could have been improved

at the end of this series in the final ep i'd love to see a calculation of all the cups from each game added to see what game you ranked the best
I'd argue that the DS version of GCN Luigi Circuit is a downgrade because the road is too wide, meaning you have to go out of your way to interact with people going in the opposite direction. I remember playing the DS version when I was a kid and thinking, "Huh, I'm driving on the same section of road but in reverse. I wonder if I can hit anybody going in a different direction. I dunno, the two sides don't seem to be interacting with each other much, I'll just continue driving normally." I should not have these thoughts while racing on GCN Luigi Circuit.

No way I just find out about that really dumb alternate path on Peach Beach from this video after growing up on Mario kart wii 😭

I honestly didn't care that the DS was partly 2D stuff (like the trees, pipes, backgrounds, etc). I was honestly blown away to be playing this on a handheld console. 5 years before I was playing a GameBoy Pocket in black and white, with manual batteries and no screen light.. To have a console, with 3D, a touch screen and INTERNET was hard to comprehend for me. I don't think anybody really cared if some bits were 2D. Mario Kart 64 had a lot more 2D stuff in it than Mario Kart DS.
And in hind-sight the retro tracks were really bad, but at the time it was awesome to have 32 tracks, and I didn't have any expectations for what they chose. They couldn't get away with those retro tracks today, but at the time they were a big bonus, a big added extra to what we expected from Mario Kart, so most people were happy with them.
People say that Raid shadow legend is sponsored too much, But I think Squarespace is sponsored even more😢

My least favorite is 8DX’s Shell Cup
I mean Wii Moo Moo Meadows is a decent track and I don’t mind playing on that, but man the 3 other tracks are so boring to play on, and the worst one tho is GBA MARIO CIRCUIT!!!! WHY IS THIS TRACK PICKED SOO MUCH IN ONLINE!!!! THIS TRACK SHOULDVE NEVER CAME ON HEREE!!!!! -10000/10 TRACK K- TIER
3. DS Shell Cup
- Ok the only track that’s carrying this here is GCN Luigi Circuit, I love the idea where you bump into last place characters, but the other tracks are just mediocre
2. Wii Shell Cup
- Ok we got not bad options here, I mean yes Ghost Valley is here but it’s the 2nd version and not the 1st version but it’s still a decent cup, Peach Beach is way too open of a track which i prefer it in GCN even tho I barely played Double Dash,
DS Yoshi Falls is mediocre, but it’s better than DS with added trick ramps, because you gotta represent the Wii Era! Ghost Valley 2 I have nothing to say, Mario Raceway tho, I personally like this track, i like how you can go in the hill for a shortcut and going in the pipe but now we got a whole track based off that 27 years later!
1. 3DS Shell Cup
- Ehh, AFTEE BANGERS AFTER BANGERSS, Luigi Raceway is an ok track, I like the vibe for some reason but I wish it can have something more to spice it, Bowser Castle 1 is an ok track, I like the ramps and thwomps, and that shortcut near the end, but now we got MUSHROOM GORGE!! Hot take, I like Gorge’s visuals in 7 than Wii and 8’s idk I always loved this track, and WE GOT BOSTON BANGER BUILDING, idc what anyone say, this is a top 3 in MKDS, I like the Halloween asthetic, like sure we barely go in the building but look at Madrid Drive’s Museum, we’re in there for only a heartbeat, nonetheless it’s still fun maneuvering through it and driving through a graveyard and driving on a grave for a gliding shortcut, and going through a dead forest with dead trees walking around is so goofy!
Mario Kart 7 of course would have been great if Luigi’s Mansion would have been replaced with Cheep Cheep Beach because having two Luigi tracks in the same cup is bull crap.

Out of all the cups in Base Base 8 on the Wii U. The Shell Cup was always one of, if not, my least favorite cup in the game. It’s not bad, a lot of the tracks are just fine and the terrible Toads Turnpike remake.
