Less obvious is the use as a slight to demean "all you pakeha are the same", "all you Pakeha are colonisers and should bow to our moral and spiritual superiority and closer connection to the land". Who was it a while back who proclaimed the superiority of Maori DNA? By which that person also meant that anyone who was a Pakeha was inferior due to their birth. I believe part of the reason mayors support Māori wards because it helps strengthen relationships with local iwi. This is crucial for councils due to the significant role iwi play in the planning process. For example, obtaining a discharge consent for your wastewater treatment plant upgrades becomes much more challenging without iwi support. Of course, this depends on the planning rules in place. However, many of these rules are structured to make the pathway easier and with iwi support. Providing incentive to get that support.

    I've always said that the biggest problem Maori have is it's own self appointed leadership.! This leadership need it's own people to fail so they can justify THEIR own existence, Te pati Maori is just the latest example of this. The only way this failure of so many in self identifying Maoridom is if a vast majority recognize this and in huge numbers tell this arses where to go , nobody else can do it.

  • @jamescrydeman540
    @jamescrydeman540 5 місяців тому +1

    TheMaori seats have not served Maoridom well. The most they ever did was assure Labour of four seats in the bag. If Māori had taken themselves off that role and spread their votes across all the other electorates I have to wonder if Labour, at the time the preferred party of Maoridom, would have spent far more time on the treasury benches. Altering the almost traditional three terms National, one term Labour cycle of old. No longer appropriate I realise but promoting the concept of seperate seats is to declare a preference for a lesser order of democracy and a definite perverting of democracy. And no the ends never justify the means, an expression for those bereft of the principles and ethics to do the right thing in the first place.

    It is time to acknowledge the uncomfortable truths that plague our society. We cannot turn a blind eye to the injustices of the past that continue to linger in the present. When we say "it wasn't me", we are shirking our responsibility to confront the legacy of colonisation and its impact on indigenous peoples.
    The Māori people have endured the stripping of their language, land illegally confiscated or perpetually leased and there rights to self governance (Tino Rangateratanga), in direct violation of the promises made in Te Tiriti( (the signed Māori Version). It is through acknowledging these historical wrongs and working towards reconciliation that we can begin to heal the wounds of the past.
    It is imperative that we hold our government accountable for their role in perpetuating systemic inequalities. We must demand that they honour their obligations to the Māori people, who have been deprived of their rights for far too long. That’s why we are seeing the rise of TPM.
    We must break free from the chains of ignorance and bigotry that cloud our perceptions. By treating the Māori with the respect and dignity they deserve, we can pave the way for a future built on mutual understanding and cooperation. Don’t be part of the misinformation propaganda everyone is spewing towards Māori.
    Let us not repeat the mistakes of our ancestors. Let us stand in solidarity with the Māori people and strive towards a more just and equitable society for all. The time for change is now. Or War mongers like Mike might get his Civil War.

      What exactly is racist here. You truly have no answer. So you fall back on the narrative. The apparent accusation of racism within the Te Tiriti movement is baseless. By labeling it as racist or separatist, one avoids addressing the real issues. Viewing the situation from a different perspective reveals that no existing rights are being compromised; rather, rights that were unjustly stripped away are being restored. Resistance to this equitable process reflects a racist mindset. It's crucial to confront these biases and acknowledge them honestly.
