So, he won all of that while being robbed by Japanese judges and fighting with a hand tied his back due to regulations changes to not fully use clinch and/or elbows. What a legend!
I agree with not allowing clinches. Their too dangerous, and impossible to regulate because the opponent is being held up and tossed around while taking lethal blows the head.
I've been a huge fan of MMA since I rented video's of the first UFC Events as a teen in the mid 90's and I've been closely following it for 15 years or so. It's only been a couple of years since I started to watch some Muay Thai and Kickboxing, thanks to One Championship. But shortly after being exposed to the sport I discovered Buakaw and I was immediately captivated by his seemingly effortless ability to dispose of world class level fighters! First I watched a every career highlights video I could find on him, and then all the full fights available on YT and mini documentaries. It's just incredible to me to see him do what he does in a sport that has been around for so long and has so many dangerous fighters that compete so often from such a young age! Buakaw is the closest thing I've seen to a real life super hero🦸

Buakaw is certainly the benchmark for Muaythai boxing. Anybody who tries this sport seriously, SHOULD benchmark himself against this mythical Buakaw. I am in TOTAL awe of thus guy.
Buakaw - the inspiration for many young men to start training muay thai:) Im from Slovakia and I remember the boom around him when he came on the scene. I remember. Me and my friends were watching K1 finals. He was against Andy Souwer amd the fight was amazing. I dont know how Andy still stood on his legs after the deadly kicks from Buakaw. He still is a Legend here, still an inspiration for many fighters. I remember first thinking he is the actor who played OngBak. Buakaws style was totally different than any other. Strong kicks, good defense and the sheere power of his punches that started from his back (you could see his back muscels in every punch). Aaaa beautiful times:)
A very worthwhile watch. I have never trained Muay Thai, but I have always admired in awe, the training regimen. It's fairly insane. I have a great respect for the art and the Thai people in general.
I remember watching his K-1 domination back in the day. Even against the very best opponents it always seemed like a walk in the park for him. "Ok you can kick first... And now it's my turn"
I was just getting into Muay Thai/ kickboxing when he joined K1. And honestly watching this video I’m being told how amazing all his opponents were. But I only remembered them as those people that got demolished by Buakaw.

Buakaw has always been a beast in my book. I'm always amazed at his lightning fast kicks and how quickly he can execute one and follow it up with another. Guy's legs must be made of pure muscle.
They changed the clinch rule to make it compatible. That alone says everything about this legend. He would have murdered all the icons of corrupted K1. True legend!
Boxing has seen a lot of rule changes too. A lot of things inconceivable by today's standards have been allowed there had it been 150 years ago. changes kept coming up even after Queensberry rules. Judo had rule changes. The early UFC had almost no rules, and that got changed. Most rule changes exist to propel the sport forward, not to take it backward. In the case of K1 clinch rules, as much as ego-stroking as some of us would like to have it - but no, those changes were made out of simple calculation. To take the sport FORWARD, not backward. If the clinch rules remained free, then most of K1 fighters would immediately be at a disadvantage and would have to learn the new skills - just like MMA fighters had to learn grappling, courtesy of the Gracies. It so happens that the dominant form of ground game in the modern MMA - is BJJ. So, same would have to happen with kickboxing, eventually blurring the lines between it and muai thai. Not only the required time for athletes to reorganize and perform at the required level would be detrimental to the promotion itself, but also it would relegate the discipline itself to being a subdivision of a martial art that is far less marketable on its own (due to multiple reasons). Thus, a middle ground was found, where the rearrangement of the sport was minimal and at the same time shared enough common denominator with neighboring disciplines, allowing athletes to be competent enough at both. Such as Buakaw, John Wayne Parr, Rob Kaman.
He's my favorite player. He is the athlete who introduced the greatness of Muay Thai to Japan. There are some comments that seem to be discriminating against Japanese people, but that's not true. I don't like the decision made by the management of K1 Entertainment. Many Japanese martial arts fans know that he is the strongest. And many martial artists know this too.
Out of those 24 losses at least 2/3 are dubious judging. He really only lost around 8-10 times which is amazing in combat sports, let alone at the level he's operated at for so long. Probably my fav fighter to watch along with the great Ramon Dekkers r.i.p

Yea he was a thai bull for sure. You see fast and very technical thai boxers over the years but this guy had power and a chin too which you don't see often. Once in a generation talent.
This is a perfect example of a fighter playing into their infamy, I'm sure his reputation and the fact that he was different was a huge mind game for his opponents. It's like when you see an insect you've never seen before and you get scared cause you don't know what poisonous tricks it has up its sleeve
yeah... and the 'trick' turns out he's able to beat you back and forth and he seems to be made from diamonds or lava or something not really so much a trick as just being able to beat you back forth and being made out of diamonds or lava or something
What stands distinguished him from all other top-rank fighters? That'd be the blazing fast, viper-like speed w/ his pinpointed laser-like accuracies, & nearly flawless vicious ballistic missile-like devastating power associated w/ a perfect timing. These seem to be his most effective weapons that had attributed him to dominate in his wt. class. Btw, he seems a well-mannered & respectful gentleman. Zillion thanks for this superbly constructed long video. Enjoyed & appreciated it to the core.,,,,,(11/04/23)

This guy mastered the basics and applys it like the Terminator
So, he won all of that while being robbed by Japanese judges and fighting with a hand tied his back due to regulations changes to not fully use clinch and/or elbows. What a legend!
I agree with not allowing clinches. Their too dangerous, and impossible to regulate because the opponent is being held up and tossed around while taking lethal blows the head.
@@kennethboehnen271 But that's the core of Muay Thai. That's why I said that he basically fought with one hand tied behind his back.

Simply the Best 👌

I remember all the K1 fights! Those were the days. So many legends. I'm 41 now and Buakaw is still fighting what an amazing career!

They changed the clinch rule to make it compatible. That alone says everything about this legend. He would have murdered all the icons of corrupted K1. True legend!
Rules are fine. Some techniques are too dangerous, including sustained clinches. This isn't supposed to be a true gladiator sport.
@@kennethboehnen271what 😮
Si te descuidas,te cosia a rodillazos,y si no,también.😊Espectacular.
@@kennethboehnen271while MT do that on daily basis? K-1 just too weak to fight MT fighter then.😂
Boxing has seen a lot of rule changes too. A lot of things inconceivable by today's standards have
been allowed there had it been 150 years ago. changes kept coming up even after Queensberry rules.
Judo had rule changes. The early UFC had almost no rules, and that got changed. Most rule changes
exist to propel the sport forward, not to take it backward.
In the case of K1 clinch rules, as much as ego-stroking as some of us would like to have it - but no,
those changes were made out of simple calculation. To take the sport FORWARD, not backward.
If the clinch rules remained free, then most of K1 fighters would immediately be at a disadvantage
and would have to learn the new skills - just like MMA fighters had to learn grappling, courtesy of
the Gracies. It so happens that the dominant form of ground game in the modern MMA - is BJJ.
So, same would have to happen with kickboxing, eventually blurring the lines between it and
muai thai.
Not only the required time for athletes to reorganize and perform at the required level would be
detrimental to the promotion itself, but also it would relegate the discipline itself to being a
subdivision of a martial art that is far less marketable on its own (due to multiple reasons).
Thus, a middle ground was found, where the rearrangement of the sport was minimal and at the
same time shared enough common denominator with neighboring disciplines, allowing athletes
to be competent enough at both. Such as Buakaw, John Wayne Parr, Rob Kaman.
50:40 I came to watch the history of the legend… and ended up in the video for two seconds 🤣🤣
