“Is or something you drink before you fight?” Not necessarily but it sure does help
This comment is my favorite! 😂🤣
It's also something you can drink before you wreck your car, bet your friend $200 you can make the next three shots while playing pool, yell "where's the nearest donut shop?" at a police officer, cheat on your wife, or, fall asleep at a table at the Waffle House. So, really, it's got a variety of uses.
@@biff9999 that was weirdly specific.
@@wolfcat1998 The voice of experience.
@@biff9999 was this all in one night? Because I've only managed three of those in the same night.
"Does it taste better the higher percentage?" No, it tastes better the more you drink.
😭😭
My barrel proof bourbons say otherwise.
@@galenoestrike945 Totally agreed. The worst thing you can do to good bourbon is kill the taste with water/ice. Though I have gotten some funny looks ordering barrel strength neat. Too many people equate "neat" with doing shots.
The higher proof showcases more of the grain and wood tannins so yes the higher the proof the better it tastes. However the flip side of that is adding a drop or two of water to a barrel proof whiskey separates out some of the oils which would be from near the tails cut and the char of the barrel and brings out intense character. It can be good or bad depending on the whiskey.
Lol!
“I feel alive” and “I’m going to die”. The duality of man.
as a man i confirm
The same reason some people enjoy super spicy foods.
The closer we are to Death the more alive we feel
When my grandfather was alive, he would often get samplers of all sorts of liquor: bourbon, whiskey, rum, vodka. He would have a briefcase full of these samplers, and he would just give them all away to people he knew: Friends, family, even cashiers that he saw regularly. When he passed, we had tray full of those samplers next to his casket with a sign that said “Have one on Chuck.” Seeing this video kind of reminded me of that story.
I love this
That's awesome! When my grandpa passed, everyone had Stoli in his honor. The entire top shelf of his pantry was filled with bottles. How he managed to run a successful law firm for 60 years is truly a testament to his brilliance, work ethic, and remarkable ability to metabolize vodka. lol
To Chuck and my grandpa Bob
Salute!
That’s so cool. I tend to sample different types of liquor sometimes. Maybe my family will do that for me when my time comes.
RIP to a great one
I remember those gigantic slabs of mixed boozes in little bottles. Haven't seen those for a LONG long time.
"It tastes like chocolate."
"I'm going to buy you some chocolate. I don't think you've ever had any before." 🤣
Though it's humorous, it's also spot on. Whiskey has thousands of compounds in it and each person will pick up different smells and tastes from the same whiskey. And since cherries don't have a "cherry odor chemical" that makes them smell like cherries, but instead have a combination of chemicals that gives them a typical cherry smell, if those compounds or ones similar to it show up in whiskey, it will remind the taster of cherries. The other weird thing is the perception of like odors and flavors. If a beer has a skunky odor, some will absolutely gag over it while others will enjoy it because it reminds them of the smell of the woods at the lake when they were a kid.
Cute, you may be right though. That crap is nasty, every cheap dive outside the military bases serves it.
@@coolestson7547 I think it would have been better had they not gotten the cheapest stuff. I drink jim beam , but I am used to it
@@grbenway I don't like to drink so I just don't, I started when I was 12 and quit it at 13.
Didn't like the headaches I got for the next day and decided if I ever go to parties again I'm going to just go as myself and without any influences of the alcohol kind. That said, I do find enjoyment in watching others flail around and get drunk, do stupid things and say even more stupid things.
In my experience, soju sneaks up on you. Bourbon punches you in the face lol
It can also kick you and take your shoes.
@@lattrelbia2527 And lose your car.

"are you sure this doesn't belong in a car" I'm crying that was the best thing I've heard all day. I said that the first time i tried brown liquor too, don't worry. 😆
I can't wait to see them try a Laphroaig or Ardbeg.
Actually, bourbon is not fermented within the final aging barrel. It is fermented within a different barrel, distilled, then aged within a charred oak barrel. Fun fact, every batch of bourbon has to be made with a freshly charred barrel, as barrels cannot be reused. This is where the very high amounts of oak flavor come from. Also, bourbon is more like the Soju of America. The Makgeolli of America is more like Napa valley wine.
Or Smirnoff ice . When I saw it that’s what I thought of !
@@imnotincontrolitsathrowawa3646 oh yess all sorts of hard seltzers and wine coolers are definitely America's makgeolli
_Actually_ there is no fermentation inside a barrel. All fermentation is done before distilling. Once the fermentation is deemed completed the liquid is heated to the point that the alcohol (and some other important chemicals) evaporate and these gases are passed through (often) a metal coiled tube, condensing back into a liquid. This liquid may be additionally distilled for additional purification or use directly for maximum impurities and flavor.
Some alcohols are distilled multiple times, such as Irish whisky and vodka, while others pride themselves on the flavor of the distilled source and are only distilled once. A prime example of the once-distilled beverage is Shouchu and Soju. These have a pronounced difference in flavor depending on the source of the initial fermented source. (Unfortunately in the US outside of the East and West Coast is it quite difficult to find a variety of either Shouchu or Soju. I would really like to try one that is majority Sweet Potato based.)
Lol, they said Bourbon was like the Sake of America I laughed,....................if anything its like a weaker Vodka imo
To be fair, a lot of Americans react similarly the very first time they try bourbon straight. It's an acquired taste. The guy in the blue shirt either knew what to expect or he's tougher than your average bear. I do enjoy a good bourbon, neat, but didn't so much when I first had some. Edit - Donghyun
The first time I tried bourbon it was Woodford Reserve Kentucky bourbon. It was wonderful neat. I've tried Jack Daniels and Jim Beam, and they taste like gasoline to me.
@@snidecommenter7117 jack daniels is definitely an acquired taste. I like it neat and take small sips at a time, I also make sure that it covers the whole tongue.
@@snidecommenter7117 Jim Beam tastes good to me, but then again that's the only bourbon I've tried and my first liquor was Bicardi Black which felt like drinking liquid charcoal.
also to be fair some of the best bourbons you gotta do a lottery in most states to get it. Off the shelf is a lot harder to obtain let alone something that would be shipped. Something that would be real smooth even for a first timer probably won't be found easily online or shipped overseas.
@@snidecommenter7117 Woodford Reserve is my favorite (that I can afford). I get it with just two ice cubes, it opens it up a little.
when minji says ‘it came down here’ lol drinking it straight like that you literally feel it burning as it travels down

Yes they should dilute it before
Good ol Kentucky hug
@@sormisthapatra2388 Ew, no. Lol Kinds beats the purpose of tasting it too. Lol
Bourbon is really meant to be sipped and savored either neat or with ice
That one dude who took the whole drink straight up the first time without any reaction should have automatic American citizenship, in my opinion.
My favorite bourbon, Woodford Reserve, is a little pricey. It has more of a warm vanilla flavor. Everyone thinks I'm a heathen, but I like to mix it with orange juice. It tastes like a creamsicle!
I like how as they went it got "better"
Y'all, that's just how alcohol works xD
FREE ALCOHOL!!! THESE ARE THE PEOPLE ENJOYING THEIR LIFE TO THE FULLEST!!!!
Indeed lol
yes😂😂
I'm jealous too
Lucky bastards lol, this shits expensive in oz
Except a lot of Asians cant process alcohol so this might be painful later on
I’m very hyped that everyone had such an open mind about the bourbon, love from USA
Wild Turkey with Coca-Cola was the first non-beer alcoholic drink I actually liked the first time I had it. I recommend mixing with either that, or ginger ale, if you don't want to try it straight out of the bottle.
Now, I can't one-shot the glass like Donghyun, but I can at least sip on a nice bourbon and not do the fire-breathing thing right after. Bourbon really grows on you... but that's probably the booze talking!
That warm feeling y’all get after drinking whiskey is called a Kentucky hug!
Lol! Love that
I've never heard it called that but it certainly makes sense
I's also called "mid-morning in Scotland"
"I feel alive!" 😂 There's a Bourbon drinker for you. I actually do like Jim Beam, but I don't like Jack Daniels. Personal taste I guess. The Jim Beam distillery is only a few miles away from me, so that might be an influence. When I first moved to Korea I tried makgeolli and it was afwul. But I soon discovered that what I had tried was the cheapest junk on the market. I tried good makgeolli about a year later, and it was quite good. But it was unfair to tell these people that Bourbon is the makgeolli of the US, since they expected it to be smooth. Bourbon has a burn that does take some getting used to.
I agree with you. And I think, that since they are first timers with Bourbon, it would have been a better experience for them overall if the Bourbons had all been chilled or at least served over ice (on the Rocks)
Not a fan of either tbh. Both Jim and Jack taste syrupy to me, same with 4 roses. I prefer Bulleit, Larceny being my new favorite cheap.
Used to work as a bartender in Japan, and Jim Beam became my go to bourbon XD it's so good to mix with ginger ale when you just want something refreshing and mild.
yessssss jim beam for life
@@TwoAPTMLMusicProductions Good choices, but if you want the cheapest get Very Old Barton; it's a $13 bottle of magic and far surpasses most bourbons that are 4 or 5 times the cost. VOB is essentially very young Pappy.
DONGHYUN!! Drinks it down like a BALLER! Well done.
Buffalo Trace is a good one to start with, it's light, more aromatic and some defined sweetness. As they go up to pricier bourbon's, then they can begin to understand the complexity of each. Woodford and the Woodford reserve are the 2 others I've tried. Jack Daniels is harsh, I've tried that several times. The Bulleit Bourbon has a higher amount of rye in it's mash, which can make it more spicy or 'medicine' for some tastes
I love that you can tell they're becoming more drunk style manic after the first shot
U can tell they were gradually getting tipsy they were just trying to keep composure lmao

Or anywhere really.
I agree wholeheartedly. Her and Minji
I should correct you: Bourbon doesn't ferment in the barrels, the fermentation period is when the initial alcohol is created through the yeast consuming the grains. When it's aged in new charred oak barrels it's "aged".
It doesnt ferment in barrels, its a distilled spirit when its put in barrels. It slowly absorbs the woody taste
When I was stationed in Korea (American Soldier), Koreans loved our liquor (and our cigarettes). My understanding was import tariffs made it much more expensive than just buying it on post. We went so far as to just randomly share liquor shots with unknown ajushis on the subway. Good times. I'd be happy to share shots with any KATUSA I served with.
I've been stationed there as well, Camp Muchuck in the early 80's as a Marine. At that time they had a Korean drink called Oscar. It actually tasted like kool-aid. That stuff had marines sleeping on duty and other crazy stuff. Finally they made that drink off limits because of it's content, illegal drugs in it I guess.
American liquors are the best

@@sangwoohan1177 American liquors are excellent but don't ignore the wide variety of Scottish (Scotch), Irish, Canadian, Japanese and Taiwanese whiskeys. There are also a few high-end Indian whiskeys that are excellent (but beware of low-end Indian whiskey, stuff is like alcohol that's made to taste harsher than alcohol).
@@aBc-123-XyZ I was at Camp Colbern from 2001-2002. Off post bars mixed soju with kool-aid and Lord only knows what else. It was served in a 2 liter bottle of soda with the top chopped off. They called it a Soju Kettle. Thank you for your service.

Thank you for uploading ❤
I just want to say "Thank You!" For being one of the only channels that finally gave their drinkers a taste of actual good bourbon in Buffalo Trace. Most channels just go for whatever is easily available. You gave them an authentic taste of a very good bourbon. Thank you.
Yeah, most of these try channels end up giving their triers whatever garbage they could find in the gas station. It's painful to see them try Ancient Age, Old Crow, Benchmark and Ten High. That's like asking your triers what paint stripper tastes the best. And it taints them against bourbon like when those morons show their girlfriend how to shoot with .500 S&W magnum. I'm sure the look of horror amuses these morons for a fleeting second but they've just ruined that person's view of shooting probably for the rest of their life.
The Bulleit isn't bad either. I prefer Woodford myself. I live a stone's throw from a few good bourbon distilleries. I wish I could show them the good stuff!
And then they followed it with Jack... it's not even bourbon lol
@@MrSdgrider88 I know this comment is a year old but from what I read, Jack technically could fall under the category of Bourbon, but the company itself chooses to not identify as a bourbon so although it has all of the prerequisites of a bourbon, you are also right in saying it isn't simply because the company itself chooses not to categorize itself as a bourbon
@@LordOuro it cannot, it isn't distilled to a high enough proof...
Props to Donghyun for shooting each whiskey! He's feeling good right now haha
Great that they had Buffalo Trace in the line up. Considering the outrageous whiskey prices in Korea, that bottle costed between 60-80,000 won. Beam and Jack was probably 35-50,000 each, and the Bulliet Burbon was probably 40-50,000 won. Overall, great episode!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thank you! I love Koreans!

That made me smile! So cute and adorable! I want to hug and squeeze all of you!
i love jean bean. has those sweet vanilla hints, but not too much, just a refined taste overall. channel is great too
When I saw this title, I knew what was coming. When I was in Korea, I had a Korean friend of mine offer me some apple Soju. She told me "it's very strong!" When I drank it, I thought it was a joke. I couldn't even taste any alcohol. I thought it was water. it had almost no taste. I thought, ok these people have never had the hard shit we have in the US. I'm going to enjoy watching this.
That line-up is interesting....the Beam, Jack and Bullleit are all pretty strong and "unrefined" or "hot" and the Buffalo Trace is SO much smoother than the other 3.
Yeah I noticed that when trying a bunch, the harshest tasting that I've experienced is Maker's Mark, that just felt too sharp.
The Buffalo Trace after the Jim Beam threw me for a loop.
@@G1NZOU Makers is actually a high barley mash, the others are high rye. It's interesting you say Maker's is too sharp because the high barley mashes are supposed to be sweeter and less "spicy."
yeah where's the knobb creek or some other drinkable brands?
@@acolytetojippity Bulleit is the best cheap bourbon there is. Buffalo Trace is generally considered one of the best. Jim Beam and Jack Daniels (even though it isn't technically a bourbon) are household names. Their choices seem to make some sense.
There are a myriad of bourbons out there. It's impossible to make a well defined choice. Plus, you don't know what they have available to them in S. Korea. If they had all day and a good liver, they could have definitely expanded a little bit. Knob Creek (although I like it), wouldn't really be my first choice since it is basically just Jim Beam aged longer. I probably would have gone with Blantons, Woodford and Makers.
Wild Turkey 101 is an absolute delight to drink. I particularly like the caramel notes. Jim Beam and Evan Williams run a close second.
Yeah WT 101 has been my bourbon of choice for 30 years. Evan Williams Bonded is also rather nice indeed.

The reason the Buffalo Trace was different is because its a 'Wheated' Bourbon..its finished with Wheat rather than the typical Rye so usually has softer notes and is generally considered to have a smoother finish.
Trying to drink bourbon neat is usually something you have to learn. At first, the burn is overpowering, but eventually you get to a point where you learn how to drink it (like literally the way you sip and swallow) and get used to it where you don't even notice it anymore. That is the point when you can really start appreciating it instead of tolerating it. I recommend a process to get to that point.
1) Weak mixed drink (like whisky & soda) to get an idea about the flavor.
2) Take that same mixed drink and make it stronger until you get to a point of really tasting the alcohol, maybe until its equal parts mix and alcohol.
3) Switch over the mix to water. This way you are getting a really diluted drink that is still a low percentage, but has no flavors besides that of the alcohol.
4) Reduce the amount of water in each drink slowly until its just a bit of water with the alcohol.
5) Give them the alcohol with just ice. Let the ice melt a bit, but not completely. Drink it cold. It will take the sting away a bit but gets you used to the method of drinking.
6) Serve it straight. At first, don't worry about tasting, just drinking. After a few times drinking it straight, you get used to it and can move on to the next step.
7) Enjoy!
Me, currently living in Korea, who drinks whiskey neat only: heh this is funny
But to say bourbon is the makgeoli of america was a bit misleading. I love Makgeoli but it’s like a softer and sweeter sake, recently fermented. Bourbon is distilled so it’s gonna be like 10x harsher

Barrells are useually charred and or toasted in which the spirits/whiskey is aged in to get different tasting notes, such as oak, vanilla, pepper, chocolate, and so forth. The amount of time in a barrell is a factor as well. Usually the longer it is aged , the more expensive it will be due to the "Angel's Share".
The higher the proof (percentage times 2) the more distinctive the taste, usually. It comes from the barrel at a high alcohol content (with full flavor) and is watered down to the 40 to 50 per cent that you usually see by literally adding water. This lessens both the alcohol and the flavor. This is the reason that people seek out high-proof and barrel-proof bottles, for the full flavor and not the higher alcohol.
A VERY common and simple mixed drink in the US is Bourbon (or Rye, my preference) and Ginger Ale. 2 oz whiskey plus ice in a glass and add ginger ale to top it off. Vary the size of the glass for how strong you want the drink. Other people might like Bourbon and apple cider. Too sweet for me, although I (hypothetically) drank that when I was too young to drink about 45 years ago. Then again there were times back then I (hypothetically) drank Jack straight from the bottle while (hypothetically) cruising around in a car with friends while (not hypothetically) not driving. I (hypothetically) liked whiskey before beer.
You can slowly see their faces becoming blushed the more alcohol they drink lol
I have had Jack Daniels once when I was like 17, (just a little bit) and I thought I lit myself in fire.

She was right thinking water would smooth it. 'Bourbon & branch' (water) used to be a common drink for that reason. Now many people order a bourbon on the rocks (ice) knowing it takes time to 'steep', in other words, for the ice to melt and provide the small amount of water necessary to adjust the flavor to their preference. Also, a lot of new bourbon drinkers prefer it in mixed drinks, the simplest would be the Bulleit with a splash of Coke - they really work well together.

Knob Creek is good at about 30 gbp.
Most bourbons are at their best between 45 and 65% abv. So be prepared to alter your drinking style to get the best out of them.
Small sips and dwell longer in the mouth.
@@slayerrocks2 will try and report back. Thank you sir
They did very well and are adorable! I can’t drink because of panic disorder, but I love watching people try different alcohols they’ve never had before. It’s fun to try new things, even if they can make you tipsy, lol. 😁😉
Im glad you can still enjoy liquor in your own way :D
Background music is The Swan by Saint-Saëns
I hope they drank lots of water and had a nice chunk of bread after this 😂. Also making them drink Jim Beam, is just mean 🤢🤭
I love Beam. Everyone is different.
I’d take JB over JD every time!
heejin is just so funny i cant with her i swear 😭 my tummy's hurting from laughing so much
It's really good when it's cold outside warm you up really good.
I was in Pohang once for a month. I drank Soju. It was different than normal for me but I enjoyed it. These people having amazing personalities. Love the reactions.
Thank you for the laughs this morning! Hard alcohol like bourbon is a rough go to the uninitiated. I love hearing the Kingsmen reference. Fifteen minutes into Golden Circle I wanted to gave a glass of bourbon to nurse until the end of the movie, although the movie did turn me off of hamburgers.
It was also interesting how some people can pick out the nuanced differences between bourbons and some can't. I found I fall into that latter group. I'll drink Evan Williams, a very inexpensive bourbon once or twice a year. I've also had Buffalo Trace (my one sister's favorite) and Bulleit (my brother's favorite) and I couldn't pick up the smoothness both siblings found in their favorite bourbons.
Thank you for a very enjoyable video.
I'd be curious to see how they'd react to some of the flavor versions. Something like Crown Royal Apple or one of the good peanut butter whiskeys. And of course, Fireball.
Peanut butter whiskey goes great in coffee, literally half a shot will make it taste like a mocha, especially if you like a bit of sugar in it( and a little bit of milk, who knows maybe you like it black). Shit surprised me, i was bored and found something great
Yes, I love a good peanut butter and jelly drink.... A shot of Scatterbrain PB whiskey with a shot of Chambord Black Rasberry liquer... tastes just like a PB and J sandwich...Yummy!
She said Jack cleared her nose. That's why I drink Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey. Tastes good and good for colds!
I only drink flavored Soju. The plain/original tastes like turpentine or cod liver oil.
LOLOL. This was great, I loved it. In contrast there's another channel that did one with Irish people trying some american bourbon's and whiskey, and there reactions were the opposite. "Lovely", "Delicious", "Smokey".
This was fun seeing the cultural difference in taste.
Thanks for the video.
I think Koreans would enjoy a sweet cocktail like an Old Fashion. Stir simple syrup, bourbon, a dash of aromatic bitters, a sliver of orange peel and a ripe cherry together in a glass with ice.
I love all six young people. I was thoroughly entertained! Keep up the good work, and thank you for giving me an enjoyable evening!
Heejin,
You made me laugh so much that my eyes watered.
Thanks.
Their responses are authentic and very close to my own reactions when I first tried bourbon. I was in my late 40s when I first tried soju, totally different experience 🙂
I enjoyed the video but i do have one complaint.... Jack Daniel's isn't a bourbon, that beautiful bottle is a Tennessee whiskey. I was glad to see them try it purely because it's a classic American whiskey but it's not bourbon =)
It technically is a bourbon because it fits the rules of a bourbon.

Straight from Jack Daniel's website..... "Jack Daniels IS NOT a bourbon..."
"The reason it is not called a bourbon is the additional step that Jack Daniels take when making their whiskey. Before the distillate is placed into barrels for ageing, it is slowly filtered through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal."
I've always thought the literally definition to be somewhat asinine. You are, of course, correct, but that does not stop Jack Daniels from tasting like bourbon...or bourbon from tasting like Jack Daniels. Don't get me wrong though, Jack Daniels is over-priced and overrated, Evan Williams is better than Jack Daniels, and it's much less expensive. At least it used to be, I've not drank in many years. No real reason, just stopped drinking. Damnit man...now I want some bourbon!
Jack Daniel's is a sour mash, and made in Tennessee. All, and I mean ALL bourbons are made in Kentucky!
@@johnmerschbach7356 i live in Kentucky. If it's not made in Kentucky then it's not bourbon. Lol
My favorite bourbons are Wild Turkey 101, Old Grand-dad, Buffalo Trace, and Knob Creek in no particular order.
Woodford Reserve and Knob Creek depending on how "serious" I am.
UA-cam is randomly dumping bourbon videos on me. For some reason I have a negative name association with Wild Turkey. I keep seeing 101 on lists though so I'll be grabbing a bottle to try. Haven't had Buffalo Trace either so that's on the list as well.
@@glennchartrand5411 Woodford is a good drop... and it's at Costco so that's a bonus.
@@briangregus5225 For sure, try them. Buffalo Trace and 101 are a couple of my favorites and reasonably priced.
@@briangregus5225 wild turkey rare breed is pretty good.
The way I'm sitting here high laughing at this video... pure comedy
It was the "why did you drink mine?" "I feel alive" for me😂🤣
AM speaking from experience, they're gonna have a rough go with Jack Daniels. It's good, but its like you have to be prepared for it.
It will be an experience they will literally never forget. I can not drink Jim Beam to this day and even the smell gives me the heebie-jeebies.
Need to try the black version of Jim Beam, Crown Royal, Captain Morgan and what other one of the same. They're called black because the barrels they're aged in, have been burnt before they are filled. Which brings out some many other flavors of the originals.
The guy with the long sleeve shirt knows how to bro down hahaha he kept wanting more whiskey my man!
Next on the list is to try some decent Single Malt Scotch Whiskies...😁👍🥃
Back in the day Rum was always my favorite....great job people!
