Thank you. Although you didn't get a good TV out of the process, I really liked learning how you worked your process to diagnose the problem. Very helpful.
I also pulled the TV back out recently and made a video showing where the problem was in the ribbon cable to the screen. It starts with Samsung Plasma TV Horizontal Lines.
I agree, it's very helpful and valuable. I fixed a Samsung 4K tv successfully, man that felt so great! I have 2 Samsung plasma tv's with separate issues. One, I cannot get the board for because they quit making that part so I would have to do some soldering. I have not attempted that yet. But the other I bought in around 2006 or 7 has been on my wall on the same place every since, fantastic tv... Has the black horizontal lines now so I am going to give it a thorough cleaning and will try cleaning up the ribbon connections. I'm hopeful. Honestly, I don't know how it works at all considering the 10+ years of dust i discovered when i took it off the wall. I'll post an update with tv model number after my successful repair, because I got this!!! Video and "positive" comments are very much appreciated. Thanks all!!!
Grrr! I feel the frustration. I used your vid and others’ to fix mom's 50” Panasonic Plasma TV Model No. TC-P50X1. A couple of days ago two thirds of the bottom of the screen has black horizontal lines. At first the area was flickering as if there was a storm, then total black 30 mins later. Removed back cover and unclipped all horizontal ribbons from the circuit board located from top to bottom on the left side (good tug!), dusted, wiped down, and re-clipped. However, problem is the same. Hate to dump it, but it has had a good life with us (12 years). Thanks anyway!
I actually found the root cause of the failure of this TV and made a 2nd video. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/DSi9EtmFIuo/v-deo.htmlsi=dfo9_Dm9-1S4GS00
Unnecessary expense - unless you can decipher if it is the main board or the screen. From my experience, it is almost always the screen. It's even worst with the newer TV's as the flexible screen boards (links) are hardwired to the screen, so it's a throwaway, regardless. You should mention that when removing the flexible boards from the connectors that it is a good idea to spray the connectors with CRC226 or even use WD40. It helps to ensure a better contact and eliminates the possibility of corrosion in the connectors.
Thank you for the video, the tips and troubleshooting steps are very helpful as it saves me time and 💰 money$$$ I like keeping that to myself 😉 as well as the knowledge gained in my every attempt to fix anything that stops working appropriately.... Any chance you have a video attempting to or correcting vertical lines? I have the same TV, but can’t figure out which item corrects vertical black lines.
Sometimes you can unplug the ribbon cables and clean them with alcohol and a Q-tip. Here's a link to the video where I show what the problem is with this TV: ua-cam.com/video/DSi9EtmFIuo/v-deo.html
I dont know if it works all cases but I fix problems on 2 samsung TVs with problems on screen. Horizontal lines and flickering..... I use the hair drier and hot air at the back coverage of tvs for few minutes at the top openings and the problems disappear both cases. Then I search about it and find out that the connections on transistors sircuit sometimes loose their connection. So the hot air helps to restore these connections and the tv works. I dont know for how long.... thanks.
@@RobertornGar No. I did not. Through the holes all over the back coverage I heat the circuits for 5 minutes or more until the screen fixed. Dont worry with heat. No problem or damage. It works on 2 Samsung t.v. The smart t.v is ok until now. the other one.. mach older.. the problem reemerged every week or more and heat it many times until give it away. This one turned blue or black or weird shapes white-blue If the problem is on the LCD lamps heating is not working.
It wasn't the board or screen. It was the ribbon themselves. They have to be removed from the screen and either really glued down or replaced. You should have turned on the TV then looked at it while at the same time gently press or move the first ribbon to see if the lines disappear. Try it again if you still have it.
You should've cleaned the ribbon cable contacts before buying a replacement board. 90% of the time is something ridiculously simple like that. So many missed steps to diagnose this. It's also comical that you are talking about it not coming protected from static then you work on the tv flat on the carpet.
Lol, fair enough about the static. As far as the horizontal lines, I made another video with this TV showing exactly where the ribbon cable is bad beyond repair. I linked it at the end of this video. I'm well aware of the rubbing alcohol but if you can't get anything to change by just reseating the cable, it's not going to help.
Ultimately, I was unsuccessful in this repair. In fact, I lost the entire left half of the picture and had to wiggle connections to get it back. I still have the lines. The problem is most likely in one of the circuit boards and I will need a schematic to trace that out. Worth trying though.
Look at the comment by socomsfinest 1. I'm going to look into it when I get some time. He said the ribbon cables are coming unglued and need replaced or re-glued.
The problem is usually very simple and obvious. When you disconnect the ribbon cable connections, simply clean them, carefully, using rubbing alcohol (with Q-tips) and carefully re-connect them. Connections gather dust and go bad,. so cleaning those connections will almost always work. Just a thought. Do the obvious, simple things first.
sir how r u, i have this kind of problem but my only fear is the current inside the plasma and i am ordinary person not technician hope u understand kindly reply . can i do my self?
+potato jan if you don't feel comfortable doing it, then don't. There are lots of high voltage points that can kill you on a Plasma TV. Definitely do research and understand what you're touching before doing this. A general rule when testing a live circuit is to only use 1 hand and keep the other by your side. Another is to make sure a circuit is deenergized before touching it. Another is to make sure all high voltage storage devices (capacitors) are drained before touching a board.
thank you for your reply sir. i will not do my self i will repair from service center. sir if i will switch from plasma which tv will you recommend from any model . my requirement is watching movies in dark room and sd 480p channels thanks in advance
Damn glued ribbon cables. I hate those. Somehow its a lot cheaper for a company to glue them instead to solder them, and the problem isn't on this side of the tv, but inside the LCD screen itself. The heat from CFL bulbs makes the bad glue melt and get loose. Plus connectors cost money and are in a way of making a screen thinner. Why does everything have to be slim?
I recently pulled the TV back out and showed exactly where you can see the ribbon cable traces burnt open. The title is, "Samsung Plasma TV Horizontal Lines from Bad Screen."
Justin Peters so it didn’t work, I think I figured out which one isn’t working, it’s the y buffer, but I don’t know how to disconnect the y buffer from the y main and no one! Absolutely noooo one out that in their video! I don’t know how to do it, there isn’t a latch or anything to open and I don’t want to pull them apart ruining the y main part! Frustrating
Turn off the TV, wait 5 minutes without touching the TV. then very carefully disconnect the flat cables that connect from the panel to the upper buffer board that is vertical on the left side. clean these contacts with non-conductive cleaner spray contact, suitable for electronic circuits, or with isopropyl alcohol. with a magnifying glass confirms that these cables are not damaged at the end, in the upper and lower filaments where they bend. then connect very carefully and accurately so that they fit evenly into the plugs on the boards. does this on all flat cables of all boards, very carefully and patiently. the most accurate flat cables to fit are the x-main board to the panel, and the two lower ones from the Tcon board to the lower buffer boards.
I have had tvs with horizontal lines and I'd clean the ribbon cables on the buffer board and it would work no more lines but not always ! it's a gamble ...
I have a Samsung plasma PS50C490B3W. This TV had virtical colored lines that appear as the TV warmed up. I called a couple of TV repair specialists and they both told me that it was the screen and couldn't be fixed. This is simply not true...... I removed the back and cleaned all the dust out, then I cleaned every ribbon connection with cleaning alcohol. This made a vast improvement and over the period of about a week I had no lines at all. I then sourced a brand new replacement set of ribbon cables and my TV is perfect........if anyone needs advice on this please contact me.
