NSAIDs are a class of drugs that has analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties. They work by inhibiting the enzyme Cyclooxygenase, which is responsible for catalyzing the formation of prostaglandins and thromboxane from arachidonic acid. Prostaglandins have a wide range of functions within the body including the regulation of inflammation. Therefore, by stopping the synthesis of prostaglandins, an overall anti-inflammatory effect occurs
COX has two main isoenzymes, COX-1 and COX-2. COX-1 has a role in many physiological processes, one of which is protecting the stomach mucosa from the acidic environment. COX-2, on the other hand, mainly functions in inflammation. Therefore, the wanted effects of NSAIDs are actually from inhibiting COX-2 specifically. Most NSAIDs are non-selective COX inhibitors, meaning that they inhibit both COX 1 and 2. As a result, prostaglandin levels in the stomach can be reduced and the risk of stomach or duodenum ulceration increases. Selective COX-2 inhibitors were developed to avoid this problem, but in practice they are usually used for different conditions and they present with their own set of adverse effects which we won’t delve into today.

How about back there next to "sell e cock xib" you can add two more roosters that selectively inhibit COX2 Valdecoxib "valdemort cock xib" that has no nose and so cannot eat; and Etoricoxib "Eater i cock xib" the other rooster that can eat.

Hi Miriam, thank you for your comment. We are currently working on a way to make the video more clear, and will be sending out a new version in the next few months. Basically, the concept of the video is for one purpose.. to have a way to remember the drug names. People who study medicine/pharmacy/nursing etc. find it hard to remember drug names, and this gives a fun way to remember them. But, like you said, the video is a little confusing at getting that point across. =) thanks again for your comment! We'll hopefully be able to make it less confusing in the next video.
      Cheers, VLS

I study nursing, I think that associating the name making a pyramid or maps can help me better, maybe can help some other people to remember that way too. thanks for clarifying that :)

very confusing indeed. I do have to say that you've probably put in a lot of thought into coming up with the story to fit your visual mnemonic but it really is difficult to follow.
