Correction: Red Man Syndrome is treated with anti-histamines.
Also, G6PD deficiencies have a negative Coombs test. You said they were positive in your vid, in regards to isoniazid.
For drug induced lupus, how about HIP Mums are Qute (for cute) when STONED on weed, lol
Please...please...p450 mnemonic
And vancomycin
Correct, and SLOW INFUSION of vancomycin can prevent red man syndrome
To this UA-camr and all the people with their helpful comments, I sincerely Thank You.
that's what this channel is all about.. a community for people to help each other learn more
For TB Treatment I expanded your mnemonic to RIPPER ONGLOW, the extra P and R representing Pyridoxine and Rifabutin. Those two line up with the L and W, respectively, to represent L=Lessen isoniazid's side effect (pyridoxine is simply b6 so you coadminister with isoniazid to lessen that b6 deficiency) and W=Weakened liver/immunity (rifabutin is given instead of rifampin in patients taking CYP450 liver metabolism-altering drugs - especially high yield for HIV patients due to protease inhibitor usage).
You make this so much more interesting. Definitely donating!
Your videos are amazing... You have a knack for teaching. Brilliant, seriously brilliant!
Pnemonic for remembering Lupus Drugs, Harry Potter Themed: Defense against the dark arts teacher DR LUPUS walks into the headmaster office after his LUPUS transformation. he says "Hi, Im Pretty Much Quitting" --> Hydralazine, Isoniazid, Procainamide, Methyldopa, Quinidine"
Thank you Dirty Med for an AMAZING vid!
Hi, rearranging the mnmo to Dr lupus saying: Hi I'm probably quitting meth.
(It's easier to remember when the sound is identical eg, meth- methyldopa, rather than just the letters
Also for agranulocytosis Thionamides like PTU for treating hyperthyroidism. Thats another HY.
this channel needs wayyyyyy more attention
God bless
Hey man. Absolutely love your content and recommend it to everyone I know. You had a dope diabetes pharm video that I can’t seem to find anywhere. Really hope you could link me to it, or upload it again ASAP. Thanks!
could you make a part 2 for this video? It was very helpful!
I have my Step 1 in 15 days. I love your videos!!! Thank you!!! Keep making more!
Hope you destroyed it!!!
Omg I have mine in exactly 15 days, I’m sooo nervous
Doctor evil How did you do ??
A HAJI DATOO any suggestions . I will be appearing in 2 months
A HAJI DATOO - how'd it go? Hope you aced it!
Just an edit to the Class IC antiarrhythmics - they cause QRS prolongation but have no effect on the QT interval.
Don't know how I ended up here but I'm a pharmacy student and wanted to say that this video is great! The mnemonics were useful too.
wow! loved the video for step 1 pharm! which other videos of yours would you say are as high yield as this from your channel? thanks so much!!!
no matter what first thing I do is pressing like button on your video n then start watching cuz I know its gonna be a great video .......
Excellent video! You mentioned how Isoniazid can trigger G6PD deficiency hemolysis, and you also mentioned that it might manifest with a positive coombs test, but I don't know if it would have a positive coombs test. My understanding is that isoniazid is causing oxidative stress that the G6PD-deficient RBC cannot handle (because it lacks glutathione) and will therefore hemolyse. This is different than a hemolytic anemia where there are antibodies against some antigen on the RBC (it is in this case where you'd get a positive coombs test).
Let me know your thoughts!
Agree!
Loop earrings = loop ototoxicity
Thank you! Really helpful for a quick review.
Red man syndrome is also rarely caused by morphine. Both morphine and vancomycin do that by IgE-independent mast cell degranulation.
hi! keep up the good work
please make a video on antibiotics( mech, adv effects, indications, route and drugs of choice in various infections)
Super helpful video!
Also, I'd recognize a Philly accent anywhere...are you from Philly?
Great Job! As well Your english is very understandable! Please keep it up !!!!
Lupus inducing drug pneumonic: "Lupus at the IMP HQ" as in the "imp(demon fairy) head quarters" I just remember the imps from ruinscape. May be too niche but helps me.
This is amazing!! Thank you!!
7 years down the line... yeah you are still helpful! Thanks dirty!
Thank you Very much sir, helped alot
You are amazing, thank you so much 💗
du bist der Hammer buddy 👍👍👍💜
Great work!!
@7:42: Hydration Quietly Processes Ice into Meth, causing LUPUS
May not be chemically true, but it helped me remember the agents of drug-induced lupus.
Great review! for redman syndrome give anti-histamines.
A bunch of started to link together for me. Thanks!
great video. thank you.
Isoniazid causes the b6 deficiency which is a pathway needed for formation of protoporphyrin and that leads to sideroblastic anemia.
Thank you! Could you make a video about restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis? Pls!
AMAZING!!!!!! thanks
Great vid, liked the fb page as well!
Thanks, Ash!
DirtyUSMLE
For drug induced lupus
Think some Quin is taking drug and going to SLEep
Quins HIP My Dickinson
Quinine
Hydralazine
Isoniazide
Procainamide
Methyl dopamine
Sickle is like stone so anti Histone abody
Need a slide on CYP450 inducers and inhibitors! I get a question on that every 100 questions.
"Quin Proclaimed he IS stoned on hydra meth"
small correction: i believe vancomycin's red man syndrome is best managed with an antihistamine, not an NSAID.
(But please lemme know if I'm wrong about this)
thanks for all you do!
Yeah, I remember studying that as well, that for Vancomycin you give antihistamines, and for Niacin induced flushing you give NSAID's cause its Prostaglandin mediated
@@MRSAXOBEAT1992 yes you are right, aspirin precisely is administered with Niacin.
Antihistamine specifically diphenhydramine?
Any change for updated version? :)
Can you prepare a video on anti cancer drugs. I find it very difficult to recollect
Thank u.could u make video regarding psychiatric drugs.thank u
9:43 Class Ic antiarrhythmic drugs do NOT block K+ channels or prolong the cardiac action potential along with the QT interval .
10:19 Quinidine is more common to cause drug induced thrombocytopenia than hemolysis ; while DAPSONE causes hemolysis in G6PD patients
macrolides prolong the QT interval except azithromycin
Your all the videos are high yield!!
Is this still good to go for 2020? I'm taking step in a month lol
You’re the man
excellent
Don't forget about Cyclosporine/Tacrolimus with nephrotoxicity!
what happened to your other pharmacology videos?
writing articles and publishing them in a journal (is that what's included in research work please advise) is that a valuable asset to our cv for residency in highly competitive specialties? Please advise.
Thanks
im a pharmacist and i take celebrex for years, and I didn't think of it for gastric ulcers. Brilliant. My brain no good after night shift 😅
Another good mnemonic: HMLN sounds like "pied piper of HMLN" (HaMeLiN?). It works, moms, pied pipers...
First Aid 2021 has gout as adverse effect of Loop Diuretics, but it makes sense to me what you're saying - gout is an adverse effect of Thiazides because they decrease Ca excretion. Could you please clarify if gout shows up with Loop Diuretics? I see that you don't have gout as an adverse effect of Loop Diuretics here.
gout attacks are side effects of both drugs, as they both compete for secretion with uric acid , leading to it's accumulation -----> increased gout attacks
thank you king
Extremely helpful. I need help in biochemistry as well 😰😭😥
Super
For the Drug Induced Lupus Drugs I think of a hunter with a drug-covered stone (His-stone) and remember "When you see a wolf (lupus), Quick (Quinidine) Men (Methyldopa) go for it's HIP (Hydralazine, Isoniazid, Proacainamide)" Hope that helps someone else!
Literally JUST had a UW question with mesna
The two O's in oto-toxicity look like loops => loop diuretics
+ to the color drugs -> Yellow vision from digoxin toxicity
Thank you so much for these videos … I just passed my step 1
Congrats, Which other videos do you recommend watching?
@@Lana-vh5kr I also used randy Neil to brush up biostats… and the review portion of FA.
But dirty medicine helped me most..
Even the biohacks for 260 videos
Did you watch all of dirty medicine videos? Also can I ask you about what you thought about the exam, what didnyou feel they concentrated on the most?
@@Lana-vh5kr I watched the topics I felt like I needed clarification on … because I was pressed for time.
Every exam is different, mine was focused on pathology and drugs of abuse with about 2 questions on biostats per block
Can I also ask how much you scored in NBMEs? I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm taking my exam soon and I'm so stressed
all love
Vancomycin causes ototoxicity, quinidine causes cinchonism
thaibinh 20/6/2018
my mnemonic for Rx induced SLE --> "stoned on HIP QUIck METH
stoned= antihistone abs
H= Hyydralazine
I=Isonaizid
P=Procainamide
QUI= Quinidine
METH= Methyldopa
Hope this helps someone :)
Just did!
E-thambutol.....E-ye
iNh..... Neuro
Pyrazinamide... Gout (PG)
From what i learned Loop diuretics can also preceipitate gout
Not on boards they don't
hahahahahahahaha!!!
DirtyUSMLE Lol
Looks like Quinidine no longer is contraindicated with G6PD deficiency
2019 and still as relevant
Hussein Berjaoui 2020 and still as relevant 🐾
@@pranuthiratna4722 Step 2 soon and maybe this is a sign that it's still as relevant haha
2021 and still relevant
Keeping this comment alive in 2022~ :D
2023 and still relevant
Please make a video on Chemotherapeutic drugs and their cancer/disease indication
low yield for boards
oh..ok! Thanks for the info
Drug induced lupus: I think of the lupus wolf. "My Happy Pup - Quit it"
Do you have print out books or is your information available in text format?
I like "RIPE ONGO" mnemonic
Then USLME is conducted chronic,prior.
class 1c causes QT or QRS prolongation, does it act on k channel?
class IC is a Na+ channel blocker
Yah Class 1C does NOT prolong QT As far as I remember. Out of the Anti-arrthymics, the ones that cause prolonged QT are Class 1A, and Class 3 ( which are K+ channel blockers ) with the EXCEPTION OF AMIODARONE. Class 1C is all about state dependence meaning when your heart rate starts to go up like during exercise, that's when Class 1C works - so it's state dependence and this will lead to a DELAYED depolarization at higher heart rates, but wont' do anything for the potassium channels in phase 3. And so it has strong SODIUM CHANNEL BLOCKAGE.
Can anyone confirm if 1c arrhythmics prolong QT? I thought it was just 1a
I would like a confirmation as well. Class Ic drugs are pure Na+ channel blockers so they would cause QRS prolongation, not QT prolongation.
1A significantly prolongs QT whereas 1C slights prolongs it mainly due to QRS widening (reference: uworld)
@@muhammadsiddiqui8720 it’s actually a QT prolongation rather than a QRS prolongation. Class 1a and 1c does that.
Sorry I made a mistake, it’s class 1a and class 3 that prolong QT, class 1c doesn’t.
Thiazides causes hypercalcemia but it is also used in hypercalciuria right?explain please
Thiazides cause hypercalcEMIA (emia = blood, so "too much calcium in the blood). HypercalciURIA (uria = urine, so "too much calcium in the urine) is a different entity entirely. The mechanism is inhibition of Na/Cl co-porter, which disrupts the membrane potential preventing Calcium from being excreted into the urine (so Calcium builds up in the blood).
For drug induce lupus SHIPP My Queen ( sulfonamide, Hydralazine, Isoniazid, Proconamide, Phenytoin, Methyldopa, quinidine)
very HY , IN last medical exam 5-6 questions appear from these HY points,,
Do we use Agatroban or Protamine Sulfate for heparin induced thrombocytopenia?
Agatroban or lipuridin for HIT, protamine sulfate is used in heparin OVERDOSE to reverse its effect NOT in HIT. Good luck!
@@FlawlessNJ I can totally see them asking this as a question as it might confuse students while in a TIMED mode
DANK. CERTIFIED HIGHEST OF HIGHEST YIELD
Eyethambutol!
10:49..isoniazid does ton of shit LOL
"DIRTY" USMLE ;)
lmaooo!!!
I need a cardiac function curve video explaining everything. i dont understand shit about it. please please PLEASE
Which book should I read for pharmacology
Lippicoat pharmacology
tripathi you can never go wrong with it has the pathophysiology and medical pharmacology
I thought you were going to tell us about some legal, effective nootropics
For Anti Tb drugs
Rifampin - Red-orange secretions
First letters
Isoniazid - causes hepatitis increases ALT and AST and B6 is an important cofactor for those so B6 is deficient and leads to neurological symptoms along with sideroblastic anemia
Pyrazinamide - Weak acid , so competes with gout for tubular secretion leading to hyperuricemia worsening Gout
E (ye)thambutol - optic neuritis
Dude ur fucking awesome
Fabolous
Siadh is treated by thiazides
I love you
Thiazide : HyperGLUC
Loop : HyperGLU
Marry me
edit: accidently posted this in the video YT automated after lol in case u saw it there
Drug induced lupus: QUIN IS HYDing PROCessed METH.
