Isoenzymes: Types, Examples, Characteristics and Clinical Significance
Isoenzymes or Isozymes are group of enzymes that catalyze same reaction but have different form and same catalytic efficiencies.
Isozymes were first discovered by R. L. Hunter and Clement Markert in 1957.
They differ in the amino acid sequence but catalyze same kinetic reaction.
Isozymes are different molecular forms of the same enzyme synthesized from various tissues, Hence the study of isoenzymes are useful for understanding disease of different organs.
