I made a tribute to him using the classic 90's toys with footage from Burton, Nolan, Arkham and Injustice but I don't got ur reach, and he deserves much bigger tribute.
I love how they adapted the villains' personalities and traces. At that time, it really felt like they were expanding the original story rather than creating a new Batman series. That's why I feel Arkham Origins is constantly left out of the remasters, simply because this series was supposed to fit in the original story.

It truly was a revelation in terms of games both licensed and originals. It was the best way video games had let us pretend to be Batman at the time, and I have to respect that... no matter what came later.
This game is such a good example of how a restricted world can help elevate it's atmosphere. In comparison to its sequel Asylum is almost claustrophobic, you're stuck in Arkham with no real backup, if you get into trouble you can't just grapple to the top of a building and leave like in City's open world areas. Even Asylum's outside areas are still very narrow and don't really facilitate retreat.
It does! I just finished playing the game for the first time in years the other day. I never got to play the sequels so I just Finished Arkham City last night and started origins after that as well.
Great retrospective. I have the original versions of the game on PS3 and PC (and Switch too). Have the remastered versions on PS4 and Xbox One (played it on Series X). One of the handful of games that I have come back to numerous times. Looking forward to seeing retrospectives for the other titles if you do them.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the playable Joker DLC that was exclusive for the PS3 when the game first came out. Other than that you did an amazing job with this retrospective!
I finished it for the first time this year. It holds up surprisingly well! What it does, it does well. Using the asylum was a genius move rather than going straight to the open-world Arkham City.
While the sequels did get better and Arkham City being my personal favorite! Arkham Asylum still holds up too! It's still one of my favorite video games of all time! The story, voice acting, combat, stealth, graphics and score are still impressive today! It deserves every praise it gets! The scores for this game is no lie, its indeed, outstanding! And they were able to get Mark Hamill and the late Kevin Conroy to voice Batman and Joker too? PERFECT! RIP Kevin Conroy! Thank you so much for voicing the Dark Knight for decades! I always go back to Arkham Asylum and City to enjoy his performance every time! Again, THANK YOU, Mr. Conroy!!!! 🥹
I've 100% this game multiple times. The story, graphics, and combat all are still really solid all these years later. The one thing I really noticed though coming back to it was that the combat isn't quite as smooth and responsive as the newer games. It doesn't make the game much harder when just trying to finish the story, but it does make getting perfect combos in the challenge maps annoying when sometimes Batman won't lock onto the intended enemy or misses a counter because he randomly started doing a long, uninterruptible animation. Fighting the slightly stiff controls is really the only negative thing about this game. I like how it's a shorter game too. Going for 100% doesn't feel like a monotonous grind like the newer games can.
"Does Arkham Asylum Still Hold Up?" Short answer: HELL YES. Although I do feel like the final boss fight should have been a one-on-one, mano-a-mano David vs. Goliath battle between Batman and the Titan-roided Joker instead of... what we got. Also, I'd like to see you do videos covering Arkham City, Knight, Origins (the one WB refuses to rerelease on modern consoles) and Origins Blackgate!
The answer to this question is a resounding yes. In fact it’s still a better game than a majority of what’s out there today. Games that are solid and overall excellent hold up very well beyond their years.
I watched a recent stream playthrough of Arkham Asylum, and yea, it still holds up great. I think the open-world aspects of the later games in the series are a doulbe-edged sword: sure you get more to explore, and gliding over Gotham is neat, but you also get a lot of repetivive empty space, and having everything spread out makes gathering collectibles even more of a chore.
I think Arkham City had the best scale of a large but dense location with lots of detail and worldbuilding. Allthough the collectibles were already going overboard by then. I think Asylum might be the only one where finding all the trophies doesn't feel like too much of a pace-breaker. You even had easy to find maps that would mark all the collectibles, contrasted against later games' interrogation system which needed you to find informants in the city bit by bit.
For some odd reason where Batman goes to his cave in the beginning then you gotta move the boxes to get out the sewers those boxes don’t spawn in for me so I’m dead as stuck in this mission I can’t do nun & im on pc any tips ??
Yes it does, I’ve been replying the whole trilogy this past week. The game holds up but you can really tell the difference in pacing of the games when playing it directly after playing Arkham Knight. I’ve been switching between the games frequently instead of just playing one the whole way through and moving onto the next. I only wish Arkham Origins was on the Microsoft Store so I could get it digitally like the other 3. I’d like to try Arkham Shadows, but it’s VR, which I don’t have any VR systems, YET.
Oh my goodness I love Arkham asylum the whole series is absolutely amazing! Also to answer the “why don’t they have shoes” question is that they’re at a mental asylum and they don’t want them hanging themselves or creating weapons from shoelaces. Although most real institutions do allow slip on shoes without laces.
Personally I would say Arkham asylum is my second favorite game in the series. Those who say it has “aged poorly” simply have no clue what they’re talking about. The only thing is that the bosses, combat and predator of the other games are more advanced obviously as it is an ever expanding series, but compared to 99.999% of games Arkham asylum has better combat story atmosphere and moment to moment gameplay than most games ever
"Repetetive" he says, yet I played Arkham 2 times this year (had to get achievements I missed) and then beat City, Origins and Knight right after and I still want more.
I slept on it initially since super hero games had had a pretty rough go over the last decade or so prior but good word of mouth got me to try it and I absolutely loved it. I liked City more overall but Asylum nailed the atmosphere that the open world games lost a bit of with the change in map style. But yeah 4 really good to outright classics in one series is a good track record.
Great content, as always! Could you help me with something unrelated: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Graphically speaking, I think Arkham Asylum shows its age. I will defend Return to Arkham in that sense because I do believe that it looks better by comparison. Gameplay wise, Arkham Asylum has aged very well. It took me years to overcome my fear of Scarecrow's segments and Killer Croc's lair, and I never get bored playing this game. If only we could get games for more DC characters that took example from this game
I actually always preferred asylum over city. I like the pacing much better and the Metroidvania style where you discover a relative limited area but backtrack a lot when getting new items. Also how the asylum changes over the course of the game was really cool. The audio tapes you can find, especially those of Harley Quinn were the cherry on top. City to me is just bigger and more but the pacing suffers from it and to me it gets more tedious and the story isn't that well constructed. Still liked city (who doesn't) but it was always 2nd place.
No, no it doesn't. Spider-Man uses a non contextual dodge button, batman uses a contextual counter attack that performs an animation for you if you time things right
Played this at launch and had a blast, bought the GOTY edition that came with the OG cardboard 3D glasses and played it to completion…took me 2 days, gave myself a 2 day migraine, achieved nothing.
I always liked Asylum more than the rest of the game's rocksteady made. I love the atmosphere and it was fun walking around and collecting the collectables. I never liked the decision to make the rest open world but it was the most logical thing to do. After Asylum I love Origins the main story felt much better for me shame the boss fights in all the games were a little lackluster.
As a game, yes Arkham Asylum definitely holds up. Though if you've played all the Batman: Arkham games regularly, the limited combat skills and movement can take some getting used to. And the non-Scarecrow bosses still aren't that great.
The four Arkham games are masterpieces! And my hope is so low that we'll ever get such good Batman games in the future. tbh, I don't want that WB give the current studios the licence again cause I'm very afraid how they will butcher this games... 😢
@leithaziz2716 I only heard good things about but sadly I can't play VR cause of massive motion sickness. So sad it's an VR game but maybe will watch an Lets play. 🙏🏻

You should compare the Batman Arkham Games,
These games are fun, wish there was more.
My only real criticism is that the combat is still fun but it's very simplistic compared to how much the combat evolved in the sequels.
It turns 15 this year ?
I gotta replay it
Arkham Asylum aged so well, Spider-Man uses the same combat system.
No, no it doesn't.
Spider-Man uses a non contextual dodge button, batman uses a contextual counter attack that performs an animation for you if you time things right
@@moritakaishida7963It’s still the same free flow combat system you fool💀
@@moritakaishida7963
It's not exactly the same, but it's still pretty damn similar
The system the spider-man 2 used...from 2004 😂
Bro what are you yapping about ? No it doesn't, just put a side by side comparison of both 💀
All we need is a Batman beyond game to truly make this series perfect
Needs a movie too
I'm playing Marvel's spiderman and I can see where they took inspiration from
Happy anniversary of Man Ham Aslume!
The rag doll effects/ when migraine strikes on the goons is one of the best parts of the game for me 😭😂🔥
The four Arkham games are masterpieces! And my hope is so low that we'll ever get such good Batman games in the future. tbh, I don't want that WB give the current studios the licence again cause I'm very afraid how they will butcher this games... 😢
Arkham Shadow was a great title if you have a Meta Quest. You can at least watch a playthrough on youtube.
@leithaziz2716 I only heard good things about but sadly I can't play VR cause of massive motion sickness.
So sad it's an VR game but maybe will watch an Lets play. 🙏🏻
Unreal Engine giving everyone 5ft 6 bodybuilder physiques
Batman games would do well to take some inspiration from stealth games like Hitman and AC.....It's sad that I feel more like Batman playing Ghost of Tsushima than an actual Batman game.
Yes.
short answer is yes. just finished it again for a 6th time and got all riddler trophies this time
They say there are no stupid questions, but this is definitely a stupid question.
