Sam and Dean prepare for the looming apocalypse and agree there is only one way of stopping Lucifer. As Chuck writes the last few pages it looks like the boys story is coming to an end.

So as I am told this episode was meant to be the last ever. So do you think it should of stopped here??? And what happened to Chuck?
It was picked up again in February of season 5 so Kripke stayed on in a limited capacity but wrote season 6 finale. Do you REALLY want me to tell you what happened to Chuck? It will come out later in the show so it is better if we don't tell you. If you rewatch this episode, REAL close, maybe you can guess things, but we won't say. I don't think it should have ended with season 5. There are so many great episodes and seasons coming up. OMG! Great stuff coming! Promise!
I wouldn’t have minded if it had ended here as far as the story goes, but I don’t know how I would’ve coped without having the Winchesters in my life for the next ten years, so…🤷🏼♀️

Yes, it’s a complete mystery why the focus is on the impala until you get to the moment that the sun’s reflection off the chrome and the memories it sparks, enable Sammy to save the day. It’s interesting to look back at five X 18 weird ding jokingly says they are “working on the power of love“ as a way to beat Lucifer. Then it actually turns out that is what ultimately enables them to defeat Lucifer.
I was so confused and it felt like the writers were just filling or stalling the story by putting all that in, but then yes it was great to see all that history all the story behind her
Adam as Michael was not supposed to be a shock. That was what happened when he was locked in that room a few episodes prior when Zachariah died.
So idk if u know this but this was originally supposed to be the series finally but when it got renewed they had to tweek the ending

@@RomanyReacts yeaa it was supposed to be sam's sacrifice and dean 'moving' on with his life as the official ending, thats why they named it Swan Song, and had chuck doing the commentary about with this being the end, the last scene u saw with sam wasn't originally there and was added on later im pretty sure. but heyyy season 6 here we gooo!!!! 10 more seasons to go :)
@@avsy. Actually, they knew the series was picked up around midseason and had to tweak a lot of the back half of S5. The original ending was going to be Sam/Luci vs. Dean/Michael and both of them going into the cage with everyone else dying. It's in plenty of interviews and write ups.

The original plan was to have Dean say 'yes' to Michael and Sam to Lucifer, then both of them jumping in the cage, thereby saving the world. When the show got picked back up, they inserted Lisa & Adam again.
Dean was right a few episodes ago....Sam was always gonna say 'yes' to Lucifer. Is that Sam at the end? Is it a doppleganger? Is it Lucifer? Ahhhh, you'll find out soon enough! LOL Lisa is great. She really is the best thing for Dean. Doesn't take his shit, but knows what his life has been, so she's understanding & calm.
Fans love the Impala story. And for Chuck to narrate it, is lovely.
We won't tell you what happened to Chuck. I will say that Rob Benedict had a major stroke (at a SPN convention no less), and his life was saved by Richard & Misha. So he disappeared from the show and Cons.
I’m glad that they didn’t go with the yes to Michael part. And Lisa is great for Dean 🥰.
Oh wow now I feel bad that I said that about chuck. Gosh he is so young to have a stroke how terrible. Did he make full recovery?
@Romany Reacts oh yeah. It’s been awhile now since his stroke. He (and sometimes Rich) hosts the Cons. His band - Louden Swain - is the house band. Rob is a pretty good singer and sometimes sings w/Jensen.)
Rich & Rob are best of friends and are currently doing a podcast re-watch of SPN and give BTS info on each episode. They also have a short video series called ‘Kings of Con’ abt two actors at conventions and what happens BRS. It’s hilarious.
and there ya go... the best 5 seasons of television ever produced! Now let's see what they can pull out of their ass for season 6 to be even better!

According to Eric Kripke, this is where the series was supposed to end with this episode. My first car was a 67 Impala but it was the color of the first car they showed coming off the line. Man, I wish I had that back. Anyway, that's why Chuck is telling this story. Beginnings are hard... fans are always going to bitch... then he typed THE END. Remember Lucifer told Sam he would possess him in Detroit? So many tv show have bad things happen in Detroit, my hometown. I know it's pretty crappy, but come on! LOL! Remember when Dean got Sam out of the Angel room & Adam got trapped in? Now we know why. Everyone gave up hope in this episode. Every finale has been awesome. You are the first person to notice that Chuck vanished! I really enjoy your reactions. You really pay attention. Buy the way, when Dean drove into the cemetery, he put a cassette in his tape deck..it was Def Leopard's Rock of Ages. Dean's music is MY music. ☮
I used to love me some Def leopard. Thank you for watching and being here, I feel like I miss so much sometimes and notice other little things when I am editing which is really annoying. I thought Michael had said that he didn't want Adam that was just a trick to get Dean to say yes.

The end with Sam standing outside Lisa's house was added to the episode when the showrunners were told that the show was continuing after Kripke stepped down.
While the following Seasons have a more mixed reception there are still gems of good episodes making the show still worth watching.

@@RomanyReacts Well, honestly I didn't mind they added other seasons to this show, cuz I really like it....
@@RomanyReacts Seasons 1-5 told a damn-near *perfect* story, with stakes consistently rising believably and naturally as the story progressed.
Season 1 was about finding *A* way to kill *A* Demon while the two brothers reconnect and search for their father. 1 major demon, a few other demons all seeming like real bad news.
Season 2 was about finding that demon and stopping his plan to unleash demons on the world while the two brothers grieve their father and worry over Sam's demonic stain. Not really an increase in the number of demons, but the stakes are sky-high with the Colt missing and Yellow-Eyes in the wind.
Season 3 was about fighting back an army of demons and their pseudo-invasion of Earth and their new leader while also desperately searching for a way to save Dean. A LOT more demons, and the introduction of Ruby is excellent as it emphasizes that not all demons are necessarily on the same side.
Season 4 introduced Angels, as well as built up to The Apocalypse, which is generally considered the lose-scenario for most stories, and yet they followed through on making The Apocalypse happen and freeing Lucifer. They also showed the Angels can also not all be on the same side.
Season 5 introduced Archangels, mostly Michael and Lucifer, but also Raphael, Gabriel, AND the Horsemen. It showed 'Team Free Will' more than once going up against extremely stacked odds and coming up short, so it actually makes sense that they didn't, technically, succeed on any merits, but rather by a single break in the cloud cover causing a glint of light to hit Samcifer's eyes and cause those memories to flash. Personally, I have a hard time believing that was *entirely* luck rather than God doing a little intervention, but it's still Sam's achievement alone, and it allowed the story to (potentially) end on a tragically bittersweet note, with Castiel being set up as the new 'head honcho' of Heaven.
Season 6+, in my opinion, is still *good*, but it is not as consistent or organic. Personal favorite season is probably.... 8 or 9.

You were asking why the story of Baby, the Impala? I absolutely love this part of the finale. She has become considered a character of the show and adored by the fans. Beyond that, we see the car is the single constant throughout Dean and Sam's lives, she is part of their earliest memories, has rescued them countless times, has been strong enough (those cars were built like a tank back then), to keep them alive when hit by a semi truck, been their shelter when motels were not possible either because of location or lack of money. And Dean has literally resurrected her piece by piece and/or beat the crap out of her as the only kind of therapy we've ever seen for him.
I also love Chuck's monologue regarding writing and fan reactions and his vanishing like that has provided thousands of hours of fan discussion and debate.
Wow, you are stronger than me. I have watched this episode so many times and I always shed tears. Even knowing this isn't the final episode as originally planned, it crushes me every single time 💔❤️🩹
I do love that car too. I loved the story behind her. You know what I was so caught up with what was happening and it didn't give me 5 seconds to process what had happened before something else trumped the last event that yeah I would like to give myself a pat on the back coz my god I have shed bucket loads of tear for this show so far.
Chuck just went poof, tbh I wouldn't be sad if we didn't see him again lol.

so good, I really thought Dean was going to end up saying yes also
It wasn't Sam who, when he saw the toy soldier, allowed him to regain control... It was Lucifer who saw the toy soldier, and, because he lived in Sam, understood what he represented. In that moment he finally saw what distinguished humanity from the angels, and he lost control. In that moment he saw the love, the passion, the heartache, and the overall beauty of the uncertain life that Sam, Dean, and all humans had experienced. He realized that all in one moment. I suppose it confused Lucifer to the point of raging uncontrollable rage and anger. And that's what gave Sam the opportunity to regain control. Because at one point Lucifer saw what God saw in Mankind.
If Eric Kripke hadn't been told that the series would be renewed, Castiel and Bobby probably would have stayed dead, but he brought them back to life so they could continue the narrative in season six.
Even considering that this is more of an open-ended ending -- the legendary ending to every possible story -- I don't think it will leave anyone indifferent.
Castiel, are you God? This is a reference to one of the original scripts in which Cass became God at the end (the funny thing is that Kripke went back to season 6 and wrote the script for the last episode, as of season 7 he no longer had anything to do with the series beyond the usual mention in the credits).

Wow thank you I definitely didn’t see it like that. Such a great finale and although it would of made a great ending I’m glad it isn’t. That would of been awful for Cass and Bobby to go like that 😂, I can laugh now but it was horrific.
