- Welcome to Reactionize, where we're on a quest to react and review every single Def Leppard studio track ever recorded, including some live recordings, b-sides, and other rarities. So step inside, walk this way, and get ready for Reactionzie!
Get up, break out, don't be the odd one out! Hysteria turned out to be the biggest album of Def Leppard's historic career. With seven hit singles, anything released from Hysteria seemed destined for the charts. So what would have happened if they released 'Run Riot'? Would it too have been a massive hit? Should they have released this instead of some of the other tracks on Hysteria? What do you think of 'Run Riot'? Comment below, and we'll banter back and forth with you.

This was DL's take on Summertime Blues by Eddie Cochran and then covered by Blue Cheer. Like one other commenter posted Joe didn't like how it turned out.

Love this song! Should've been a bigger song/hit. I just remember listening to this song for the 1st time when I was like 3 my dad would always blast this song and album basically from birth
Your dad has great taste, LOL! And yeah, this could have and would have been a hit if they dropped it as a single. I feel the same way about 'Excitable' as well. Just too many gems off Hysteria!
When you get to it, Blood Runs Cold is very underrated.

Brilliant song. Have always loved this track so much. Also Dont Shoot Shotgun and Love and Affection never got the love they deserved!!
Agreed, I would also throw 'Excitable' in there, but at least they play that live on a somewhat consistent basis. It's such an amazing song on a killer album! Cheers!

An interesting debate would be what is the better half of the album? Tracks 1-6 or tracks 7-12? 🤔
Flew to Vegas when they were at the Hard Rock just to hear this one and another live, which they typically don't play.
Same! Loved it; Vegas is a great place to see them. There was talk of another Vegas residency before the Stadium Tour to play Pyromania from start to finish which would be amazing! Who knows, maybe they'll get back there one day. Cheers!

This is 1 of my favorites from Hysteria! great pick me up tune if life has you feeling down and stressed, and goodness knows i needed it 35 years ago... the track Don't Shoot Shotgun just after Run Riot isn't too shabby also...
You're spot on... not a bad song on this album, which is what made it so special. And still holds up incredibly well decades later. 'Don't Shoot Shotgun' is fantastic too... one of my 10-year-old's favorite tunes, LOL! Hope you are enjoying the Reactionize series...we're just getting started...lots to go! Cheers ~A
I distinctly remember listening to Hysteria the day it came out (8/3/87) and on my first listen, I thought Run Riot this was the catchiest song on the record (cassette in my case). Pure chaos from start to finish. After subsequent listens, other tracks stood out (Rocket, PSSOM, Gods Of War, to name a few) but this has always been a fave.
All killer, no filler. Best album of the decade.
Ha, got my cassette as well and instantly loved this album. 'Excitable' was the track that first jumped out to me, but eventually, every track had its place like you said. The hardest video I'll have to do is ranking Pyro vs Hysteria. Not a bad track on either album and over 20 million copies sold in the U.S. alone...just unreal. A kick ass, rip-roaring track! Underrated. Fortunately I was at Viva Hysteria in Vegas too and saw them perform this live. So rocking!🤘🤘
Been out to Vegas a few times to see them... love seeing them there and hope they do another residency. They've toyed for years with the idea of playing Pyro start to finish there, which would be amazing. Plus, they've never played 'Comin Under Fire' live so that would a first. You never know! There are no bad songs on pyromania or hysteria . I agree it could have been released. Love and Affection , is one I thought would have been released and been a hit also . Also Gods Of War is one of my favorite’s !
Agreed, and if I'm not mistaken, Joe said he was gonna drop "Love and Affection" after "Rocket" but ultimately decided to stop after their 7th hit single. Just a monumental album! Cheers!

That's a Leppard nugget I didn't know, especially since Joe was so involved in writing for this album, and they had some killer b-sides that could have taken 'Run Riot's place if he wasn't a fan. Love it! Best album in history and a screecher of a song! Nobody sounds better than these guys - especially on 'Hysteria'. Such dynamic sound. Well done on the video, boys.

Also, any song on that album could have been a hit as it's been widely stated, but fate and circumstance would never allow it as you can only release so many singles.
