This was the first music video I directed. Great song, nice bunch of people! We only had the band for 3 hours before they flew to the UK to go on tour with PWEI. The other characters were shot a day or so later. It was shot at the then derelict George Courts building (yes - George) in Auckland's K'road. Shot on a hand cranked Bolex 16mm, song film got caught in the gate producing that cool 'ghosting' effect on some shots. Cut on a Steenbeck flat bed - so the actual film was cut. Marcus Ringrose
My wife was recently in New Zealand on business. I'm a musician and songwriter and she picked up some "local" bands CDs for me, one of which was Chickens Hits. My god - how this band didn't get huge internationally is beyond me. Amazing stuff - the whole disc is so groovy and entrancing.
We called it George because our studio/practice room at the time was in the old George Courts building in K Rd, Auckland. On windy nights we heard, or felt a ghost whom we called George. Interestingly, Thane Kirby named George FM in Auckland after this song...
How does this kind of thing not kick ass overseas? It's so much better than what's in the international charts now - let alone what was playing back in the day.
My flatemate used to play this, and so I became accustomed to this freaky sound, I didn't know It was Headless Chickens, until I asked him, and was surprized to find out, as years earlier in 1989, I was listening to a song called Cruise Control, and realizesd who it was, Kiwi music at it's best, before SuperGroove.
Someone else says its a Harmony guitar, by the cutaway it looks more like a ES175 delux as the its sharp rather than rounded off, only going by photos on Harmony guitar site of their hollowbody guitars. I forgot to put the d because Gibson 175's have only one humbucker and the delux has two. The controls look like they have been changed.
It is SO nice to finally get my Fiona fix! Thanks to ANYONE/EVERYONE who uploads music vids with Fiona. I must say I do prefer her solo version of this song better...it has much more emotion in it. Cheers!
There is a pretty good chance that the band will reform for a few gigs at the end of this year and early next year. Homebake in Sydney, BDO and the BFM 40th anniversary gigi in May 2009. Stay tuned...
She also re-recorded this song also for her solo album. All the chook's albums were brilliant. Sadly missed band. Who knows, if Jesus Jones can reform theres hope of a chooks reunion one day .....
💐 It would seem that you're no good at deceit.. it would appear that you LIE & YOU CHEAT! 2 Weeks at Number 1 and 12 Weeks in the Top Ten. Awesomely deserved.
Just realised this is a bit of a rip off from the stone temple pilot's "loungefly" which came out 3 years earlier. In the verse anyway. Good song though but that's not cool Fiona!
loved the first album with all my heart but fiona's singing is just the most boring pop drool, feels like she could be replaced by countless thousands of voices cause she has one that sounds pretty much the same as everybody else's

Best New Zealand rock song. Brilliant lyrics.
I adored this song.... Hadn't heard it in years!! Triple J gave it a little bit of airplay in late 1996 and as an angsty teenager i loved it :)
How does this kind of thing not kick ass overseas? It's so much better than what's in the international charts now - let alone what was playing back in the day.

Love this song!!!
It's ok i won't do it again
@@noisepollution6761 that's 'cos you're weird, old guy
This is New Zealand music at its finest. Fiona has to be one of, if not the most underrated female NZ singers.
Great song. Loved it when it first came out.
We are playing this Thursday Dec 4 in Melbourne at the Hi Fi Club, this Friday in Sydney at Gaelic Club and Saturday at Homebake...
..been in my head for 3 days!
Hammer time!
FANTASTIC
Oh I just love that song
God damn i loved this song when Triple J was giving it airtime circa 1996... Gorgeous stuff.
Such a good song!

This song is the shit. One of the best Kiwi songs. Heard it on BFM yesterday after many years. Fucking cool.
Great song. I really liked Mr Moon.
Awesome

Great memories great band . Too far ahead of their time for their own good.
Helena here. Great piece of kiwi music history.
Love fiona McDonald!

the tune has hooks in it, the lyrics are strange to say the least, but memorable for helping to create the aura of the flying nun music scene.

@martialartslangatang Its a Gibson ES175.
Yeah but I live in Perth. If I lived in Sydney, I might have thought about going to Homebake this year just to see you guys.
She also re-recorded this song also for her solo album. All the chook's albums were brilliant. Sadly missed band. Who knows, if Jesus Jones can reform theres hope of a chooks reunion one day .....
creepy & sinister video. Way cool. Great vocals!!!
I forgot how many great songs Fiona McDonald was involved in. I'm clicking left right and center doing some reminiscing.
GO THE HIGHLANDERS!!!!
Thanks for that info Marcus...cool. :-)
Fiona McDonald - best 'singer' (actually she was a judge) in NZ idol 2004!!! The Chickens were at their peak when Fiona was part of the lineup...
A genuine Kiwi number one !
Old 1990S NZ Band
That's really interesting I've always wondered... And most people question why it was called George thanks for the info
CHOICE AS!!!
love to hear this song when im feeling angst
Funny thing is I heard this on shorty street at 14 ... and really liked it unexplainable. A decade later this song was factual in my life how Ironic
i was 12
Romulus.
Check out Fait Accompli by Curve - equally good.
It is a Harmony...
i liked this song when they used it in shorty st... suited well when scarlett had her psycho moments!!!
Hi Vance, I asked Fiona but she doesn't have any sheet music for it either...sorry...
Is the guitarist using a Gibson Les Paul (for anyone who knows)?
I miss The Headless Chickens.
So good!!It hasn't dated at all!
Good Song, but Mr Moon is still the best Chook song IMO. Love Fiona's voice still over many other modern Female singers.
OH I LOVE THAT SONG as well... she has an amazing voice
Didnt a metal band cover this at some point?
💐 It would seem that you're no good at deceit.. it would appear that you LIE & YOU CHEAT!
2 Weeks at Number 1 and 12 Weeks in the Top Ten. Awesomely deserved.
sing with me
Reminds me of Daddy.
she's sora from kingdom hearts.
Just realised this is a bit of a rip off from the stone temple pilot's "loungefly" which came out 3 years earlier. In the verse anyway. Good song though but that's not cool Fiona!
scablet
ok
I hate that they're not playing in Australia. I love Headless Chickens and most of the other bands are shit.
S1ck
pffft fiona wasnt even in the band for the 'good ol songs' mate
Gasfrankinstation is easily the best thing the Chooks ever released....and then went on to this drivel...
loved the first album with all my heart but fiona's singing is just the most boring pop drool, feels like she could be replaced by countless thousands of voices cause she has one that sounds pretty much the same as everybody else's
You can hurt me !
I love this song
