Try ' Taller than God' by the offshoot, Strawpeople. Recorded 14 years ago, today with a better video, the segments of Fiona, looking cute, needs to be re set against a ' Piano' ( Jane Campion ) coast setting, I think rereleased today in the bubble moment and New Zealand prominent, it could still top US/ UK/ Euro charts. Maybe even Asian ones
I got my MC road train license not long after hearing this song in 2007 and remember driving over one way bridges with three trailers weighing over 120 metric tonnes in the Pilbara of Western Australia. Such an iconic song that resonates with my driving career. Love it!
I’m listening to the Body blow album again this week Love it been listening to it every few months since it was released 22 years ago! I’m 52 now & still love their music I wish I could have seen them live!
@@nerissarowan8119 it is for me 100%, but unfortunately wasn’t for them. They made some great music, it would have been interesting to see how far they could’ve taken it had they had more influence within the UK or US music scene at the time.
I must admit this song is always associated with the soap 'Neighbours' in my mind. Someone in the music department really liked this song and used it as incidental music for romance scenes for years and years.
Never knew this was from New Zealand?! It's still very nice with that early to mid 90's niche. It's a track that I forgot about or was dormant until I found it again like a long lost friend. Great song.
Thanks for all of the good feedback. As I said somewhere else on this site, there's a pretty good chance the band will reform for a few gigs at the end of this year...:-)
Aunty Flo just read your comment re. Grant Fell a sad loss this song stirred me in such a way that I will never forget it I still love it and listen it very much. If you know what the meaning of this song is I would love you to share....
I use to know and met Fiona Mcdonald, too, and Che Fu, from New Zealand Bands of Headless Chickens, Strawpeople, and Supergroove, before they were famous, I use to sit with Che Fu, from Supergroove, Fiona and their band members out on the field of the Auckland Museum, for lunch after band practice in late 1989 early 1990, they were band practicing right next door to me when I was working for a hardware shop right next door to them, in Newmarket, Auckland NZ. Che Fu gave me some great advice, at the time. It's a good thing that, years later they became more noticed in good ol' NZ, and abroad, and I'm proud that I got to meet them, little knowing of their popularity later on. This song was just a rough copy at band practice, when I saw her preform raw with the combined group back then and Fiona was later recruited to sing it again, re-written, because she sung it better than anyone else who tried. I saw Headless Chickens in RealGroovy Records Auckland years later signing autographs and preforming. :-)
Rachael House, the backing vocalist I’ve just learned for Isabelle. Underrated talented Actress who years later gives a stunning performance in Disneys (Moana) as Gramma Tala!! My hat off to you Ma’am.
I heard this version of this song recently and thought "Hey, that doesn't sound like Headless Chickens, who is this?" but I was wrong, it's just an alternative mix. I like it.
Always liked Fiona McDonald. She was in my first year cohort at uni (Epsom campus) for about a semester back in '03. Then she left and ended up doing NZ Idol instead (going back to what she knew, I guess). Pretty cool chick, though. Not too hard on the eyes, either. :)
Yeah and it seemed like they'd always end at least one scene before the commercial break with Fiona singing "Maybe I should've set my heart for cruise control" or failing that..."Lets make a deal or I'll hurt you you know" from George.
Excellent video ( XLNT) 😆 I loved this song " WoW 30 odds years ago & still do". I often wonder what was the meaning? for me it has been incredibly ivvocative. I love The Headless Chickens & wonder how they & what they are doing? Respond if you can?
My interpretation is that the singer was falling for someone to the point of obsession, and it drove them away. Seeing this person with someone else has made her question her actions. Similar to the Bible verse, "Guard the heart, for it is the wellspring of life." - Proverbs 4:23

In fact I'm positive that they appeared in H&A as the fictional band Freinte during Melissa George's first episode as Angel
Her voice is angelic. The beat is great . Great song . She is amazing . I'm in love and I can't stop playing this song over and over .

Home And Away 1994-1996!! Best years and this song was always playing then
Remember seeing these guys at the pub plenty of times. Place went mental when Soulcatcher played
90s had such great music, love this track 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Been listening to this on the radio for nearly 30 years here in NZ and have only just realised this isn’t an internationally known banger.
Welcome to the party 😋
It’s known in Australia, isn’t that international enough for you? ;)

Didn't they used to play this track in the diner in both H&A and neighbour's back in the '90s????????
Spot on they did
This was on Neighbours in virtually every Coffee Shop scene from about 1993-98!
I remember!
a bit of Kiwi can only make it better
been looking for this song for 2 years and found it by accident.
I like the original version but this version has always been my favourite. Video is wickedly awesome. R.I.P Grant.
Sometimes they get away with showing the disconnect between making the single and the fun of the first time they came up with it and played it fully.
Today I learnt this was not the only version. (I found the other one first and thought “this is not what I’m looking for!”)

Same, I've Rediscovered Alison Moyet and others..
They were pretty popular at the time, from memory.
I remember this song from the bodyboarding "Blast Off" Glad I found it again!
That's why I loved this song. When ever I caught a wave as a kid I thought of this song.
