This exactly! I used to instruct yoga, and never understood why more instructors didn't use this variation when seeing students struggle. It's all about where you're feeling it.

Exactly in king pigeon or mermaid, it's such a dangerous mobility task on the knee.

Most yoga instructors in general are not that great imo: introducing advanced concepts in free classes, encouraging aerobics over form, centering the ego. I agree that it would be amazing if they started to care about the abilities of the general population attending.

Thank you thank you thank you.....I'm 55 years old Svandinavian/NativeAmerican man from the rez....I'm like the only sober injun who enjoys strength training and exercising. Guess my point was that on the rez , we need more of this HERE. But then I can't imagine leading a horse to water to drink and forcing him to WANT to drink it. Thanks from Meskwaki tribe, lol, in Iowa, usa

Oh, thank you!!!!! This pigeon pose used to be so so easy for me but after almost 4 years being completely sedentary, it is now a nightmare. My leg cannot do the 90º angle, my knees scream for mercy and so on.
Problem is, I spend a lot of hours sitting and I do need to regain my hip mobility (asap), since it is hindering many other stuff.
This is life saving. Thank you so so much!!

Omg I could cry, I've been limiting myself to very light yoga for the past 2 weeks because after just 1 month of daily yoga my knees were in so much pain. I never knew this modification existed and I just tried it and finally - FINALLY - I can get a really juicy stretch in my hips without aggravating my shit knees. Thank you so much!

Great tip. If I'm having a particularly tight hip day I often like to do some pigeon with my front leg on the bed and my rear leg on the ground. The softness of the bed and not challenging the rear front hip can really does a great job for me of getting into the outer hip on the front side 👍🏻
