“I’m tearing up.” Wings for Marie and 10,000 days (the song) are meant to be played next to each other as one song. After that, come talk to us about tearing up. Enjoy!
Yes, this i think 10,000 days, Jimmy, Judith by Perfect Circle, Wings for Marie 1 and 2 are like a 4 part grieving process when Maynard lost his mother, super deep and sad
Wings for Marie & 10,000 days is one of the best tribute songs to a mother.
Invincible is the tear jerker for me. The patient can do it for me too..." I must keep reminding myself of this"..
Isn't wings 1 or 2 10,000 days? So should he listen to it twice?@@patrickoneill6821
YES, DO THIS!!!!
You're not stupid, it takes a few listings to wrap your head around the beat, but once you get it, it never goes away ❤
Jambi is the Tooliest sounding Tool song. Time sigs, chugga, the drop, vocals soaring, guitar tone and atmosphere, It's packed! Then the lyrics start seeping in to me after getting tight with the overall vibe. It's like a Tool love letter to his son, IMO.
And that insane bass.
And the soaring Hollywood score sounding moments like "Shiiiiiiiine Ooonnnnnn"
Get your TOOL tickets today.
Do not delay.
The middle section, Danny gets to chopping wood 4/4 style, that riff is so muscular, so heavy
When I listen to Tool, I just close my eyes and just roll my head around changing direction whenever the music tells me to.
This song is very complex from a rhythmic standpoint. It's a 9/8 time signature, but each instrument is playing at a different subdivision. So, the guitar is playing 4/8 + 5/8, the bass is playing 3/4+3/8, and the drums is playing 3/8+3/8+3/8.
Yogev Gabay, a drummer and youtuber, made a video explaining Jambi and comparing it to one of his own songs, which uses this same time signature. Highly recommend it!
Oh, and they do change these subdivisions multiple times throughout the song. And in the breakdown, they change gears completely and go to a simple 6/4 time 😂
@@alihijazi4451 I feel like the 6/4 movement is the conversion point between the asymmetrical 9/8 in the beginning and the hammering downbeat of the 9/4 afterward.
@@IRuinEvrything that's right! It's a very nice bridge between the two. And I suspect that the fact that it's a multiple of 3 makes the transitions less awkward. For example, if they had used 4/4 instead of 6/4 in that section, the transition from 9/8 to 4/4 can be more of an earsore, even though 4/4 is the more "familiar" meter. And the same goes with the transition to 9/4.
@@alihijazi4451 word. My general assessment is that they intended the first part of the song to sound disjointed as the narrator was distracted by many worries, but then to convert to resolve and determination at the end of the song as the narrator becomes decisive.
Wrote a paper in college on Tool and I explained how they often have different have different instruments playing in different time signatures at the same time ... my professor marked it wrong and wrote a comment that they may change up time signatures throughout the song but instruments always play in the same time signature with eachother 😂😂😂
You can’t find the beat because these guys are masters of polyrhythms. Many of their songs feature each one playing a different time signature where they all align every so often and then Danny will add even more to the complexity by playing multiple rhythms with different limbs! I like to call it beautiful chaos.
Part of Tool's song structure is due to how they create. The musicians spend literal years creating music and then send it to Maynard who takes a few weeks to develop the lyrics and melodies.
Sorry dude all wrong "Maynard who takes a few weeks to develop the lyrics and melodies" sometimes years!
I'm just going off of what Maynard himself said about the process in an interview (It might have been with Steve-O or Rick Beato, I can't remember). He said he takes a couple weeks after receiving the music to riff. He might do two takes on a track and then sends it back. He also said he's always writing lyrics so he probably has those ready before he ever hears the music and just picks a piece of writing and starts working out the vocals. @@shawnthompson4783
"Rub the top of Jambi's box, and change the color of your socks. Wish for rain and wish for snow, wish that Jambi makes it so." 😆
If you like this, then you will love Ticks And Leeches. Probably TOOL’s heaviest song
Hooker With A Penis!
Rosetta stoned entered the chat 😅
Let’s not forget Jerk Off or Hush. Maybe they’re more angry than heavy🤷♂️ but I’d put them up there.
@@johnnyb6067yea those are heavy but not as “holy @$&!” As their later stuff, and Rosetta Stoned is probably a bit too insane at this point for this dude. He’s picking good ones right in the wheelhouse for a new fan so far.
you spelt sober wrong
I'd advise leaving the Fear Inoculum album for last, work your way through all the previous albums first - FI is the maturation of all that came before. The context and contrast of the previous albums are important :)
I agree with this. Fear Inoculum has some incredible tracks so that will be some delicious icing on the cake once he gets there!
I am sorry, but that is a ridiculous thing to say. It is your opinion but he most definitely should listen to Fear Innoculum now, out of order. He will enjoy it just as much, out of order. Silly boys.
Just keep doing honest reactions to every TOOL song.
The TOOL ARMY will show up.
Yep!! I found him! Ha❤
Hi! I'm from the Tool army. I showed up.
Love ‘Jambi’ so much. Yo- I’m the dude that correctly predicted your 10,000th subscriber date! Where are my shoutouts?!?! Ha ha LFG!!!!
Oh yeah you are! Send me a message on Instagram @itsmollyboy
I did last week. I’ll send another
Jambi is mostly written in 9/8 (except the guitar solo which is in 6/4). The reason you can’t catch the beat is because each instrument is subdividing 9 differently (some are doing 3-3-3, others are 5-4, etc), and they meet together after 9 eight notes. This song is one of the best examples of polyrhythms in music.
Tool has a primal beat. You have to feel it.
It's the connection to the vibration the vibe brings which taps into the collective unconscious, I cry at random times because of the emotion I associate with their music
That intro sounds like a Harley revving the gas! Bad ass!
Pneuma, studio version and the drum cam version, promise you if even if its 2 videos or one long one they will watch.
Yeah studio first and live then
We will watch
Just do the live Vic Firth version
Do both. I'll watch.
Go see them. You’ll enjoy it ✌️
Be cool if you went back to early 90's Tool, songs like Undertow, Prison Sex, and Sober are classics, but you'll hear the difference in their song structures compared to their more recent material of the the last 20yrs.
Duuuuude, go to the show in May. If Tool in the studio blows you away hearing them live is an eargasm and leaves you speechless. You find your own rhythm with Tool, but once you do it takes you to another level, physically and emotionally. Spiral out, keep going down the Tool rabit hole brother
Thanks for the reaction! Whenever you are dome with your Tool experience try A Perfect Circle. You will not regret it!
Jimmy! Third Eye! Jimmy! Third Eye!
Jimmy, you’ll love his voice on that. Third Eye is a thinker. And so, so heavy (at times)
Hell yeah, love tool so much. My personal favourite is "third eye" so i highly recommend that one 🤘
Jambi, in my opinion, is one of the biggest "growers" in their catalogue.
Maynard James Keenan....Best voice, ever, for a male singer
A couple to check out are a crazy loud "Ticks and Leaches" and "Parabol" that leads into "Paraola". Many Tool fans favorite. I see it as a song that talks about how we take life for granted.
Parabol is fantastic
When you said "idk depends on how much Tool we have to listen to" i laughed. Its a good way to get some veiws . Tool army is here for it. We love recruiting new members!!
I think, with this song, after having listened to it, or watched reaction videos, the only thing to do is to find a personal rhythm of some kind. What I find amazing is, that the more often I listen to the song, the more I'm able to separate my mind and hear all four instruments. Tool truly are, a spiritual awakening. I enjoy your reactions, very much. Thank you.
Tool does an awesome cover of Zeppelin's song No Quarter. You should check it out 🤘
Schism and invincible are my favourites. Invincible in the dark with a good stereo or headphones is a journey
It's about having his son Devo H Keenan (that's a hint for another song) and how it changed him.
Nice!!! But you know what my next comment is gonna be…Give me Descending!!! 😂😂
Keep doing your thing dude! Fun watching you react to my favorite band, and other bands. Looking forward to this one. Big Time
Tool are the odd time signature kings.
Wow.. this is art, a masterpice! Thank you Mollyboy I have a new fav band ad to my list of realy good music! 🌟 💚 🇸🇪
They ( TOOL ) are playing in London in 2024, might be flying over to watch not just because Tool is what music is supposed to be but as an absolute stunning bonus, the opening act is a band called Night Verses, which you ABSOLUTELY have to do a reaction video for the song "Phoenix IV Levitation". I will guarantee chills and potentially tears. No vocals, just 3 musicians sounding like an orchestra and like where Tool's genre is "Tool", there is no genre for Night Verses except for "Night Verses".
I just them for the first time last month and it was an experience that you can only now if you go! I started to listen to Tool in the mid 90’s,but not until a few years ago I really started to dive deeper in to their music. They’re on another level of creativity lyrically and their composition. Thank you for sharing your reactions with us and slowly learning what a band they are.
I'd recommend reading his autobiography. It's great! And I think I remember reading that "Maynard" was a character he'd sketch and then took on the name.
That’s what makes TOOL so different.
They’re beat and tempo transitions are what make them so different from others.
Congrats on 12K! I'm one of the recent ones. I'm happy I found your channel. Stay awesome.
Thank you!
The guitarist from Rush recently played this song with tool live in concert in Toronto ,And Lifeson, the guitarist for Rush is actually a big huge fan of Adam, says his playing speaks to his soul. Then on stage he gifted Adam his guitar.
I saw them in Toronto 21/23. First time I've seen them live. It was a great show
Finding the beat is part of what they do. Tool is well known for their polyrhythms and challenging time signatures. To me, it's what makes their music special. Complex and not always easy to pick up on.
You took my request from the comments! Thank you I appreciate it! Tool Forever!
I try to find time signatures in Tool’s music too and I get it wrong. I liked your end of song comment “oh shi*” lol. I’m seeing them for the 3rd time January 26th in Alabama. Hell yeah.
Don't question it...GO TO THE SHOW! Seeing Tool live is more than just a concert...it's an experience.
They are playing this one on your right now. Absolutely amazing to see
First off I love your reactions to TOOL songs. The Tool ARMY loves seeing somebody fall in love with the greatest band in the world. Some other reviewers have had a tool day (TOOL Tuesday) that they reviewed a song every Tuesday. Start from the beginning with the Opiate album and go album by album. That way you really hear the progression of their sound.
P.S.
Now you have to listen to A Perfect Circle & Puscifer. They are both fronted by Maynard( the singer from TOOL). Hopefully someone has told you all their names by now.
Time signatures is one of the things that makes Tool amazing! They just passed through Montreal (Canada) 2 weeks ago, they are AMAZING live
Love going on this journey with you man, reminds me of the first time I heard this song I was so confused but amazed at the same time lol. I think you're now ready for Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned. You need to do those two together. (oh by the way the reason you can't find the tempo is because this song is in like 3 different time signatures (i think 9/8, 4/4, 6/4) I don't know but its all over the place as far as time signatures go) They're just having fun with it.
Other great songs from them you need to check out:
1. Aenema
2. Intermission/Jimmy
3. Parabol/Parabola
4. Wings For Mary/10,000 Days
5. Third Eye
heck just listen to all the songs. There is no such thing as a bad Tool song. Well maybe Chocolate Chip Trip....
This song kicks some serious ass! Tool is just an aquired taste, but once you taste them its all over! They kill!
@MollyBoyTV
Dont try to figure out Tool songs. Listen to the entire thing... Lyrics and music. Go back and listen again at a later time. Enjoy what Tool brings. You will have your AH HA moment when you start to feel the music and really hear and understand the lyrics
Great song about him having a son and what he'd do for his son and what his son has done for his life and turned his life around.
Looking forward to your reaction. There's a specific moment...
Seen them five times now. Next up is Feb 2 in Dallas, TX, US. They tour almost constantly which is nice, but I'd pay ticket prices to get them to get back in the studio for a bit & release a new album.
Ok thats on of my favorite song ...thx for reaction. 🪬🪬 from Poland 🪬🪬
If you go to the show and you watch Maynards movements when he crouches and moves... that's the beat.... ride it with em and spiral out 🤘
You should try out some of their early stuff, like, "Cold and ugly". One of my personal favorites.
Amazing this one! I'll be at the Birmingham concert and this is going to be my first! I can't wait to see them live!
Epic! They opened the show with this when I saw them on the 10,000 days tour at Brixton London the place went nuts! 😎
What's up TOOL ARMY ✌️
There is no other band on earth like Tool! So complex, so precise so artistic. IMO the only other band I can think of that comes close to them is Led Zeppelin! If you want the most Massive Riff in all of music (IMO) you have to checkout "Stinkfist"!
Tool and Zeppelin are my two favorite bands. No one comes close. They are in a league of their own in terms of technical musical genius. Both are 3 piece bands that combine with their godly vocals to produce as much sound as a small orchestra. I've seen Tool 8 times now and it's still an experience every f'ing time.
Many Tool songs are more of a feeling than a finding the beat. They do have a groove after you listen a few times you will find it. BTW pause away we have heard it before and are here for your reaction. Keep it up man!
Told ya mate...😂
Tool army in effect...🤟😎
The harder you struggle the further it'll be for you..Just chill and let the music flow over you, you'll find what you're looking for!
Watched 3 of your tool reaction and I’m jealous! Wish I could find them all over again!!! Tool has been with me for 2/3 of my life and love to see a new generation discovering them. LISTEN TO PUSHIT on or off camera, you will go through a range of emotions. Earned yourself a new sub!
THE GRUDGE!!!!!!🤟
This song has been stuck in my head ever since I heard it live a couple of months ago.
I was not a believer before. Now that I see your confusion about their genius, I believe you.
This is new to you, and you’re enjoying it. Welcome to the Tool Club, brother. Enjoy the journey!
I've always felt Tool musy be listened to at higj volumes with eyes closed at times. Just let yourself go and feel it through your entire being. Been a fan for over 30 yrs. The music and vocals combine in an almost hypnotic way. Even after 30 years their music has the same effect as the first time I heard it.
Way late watching this one. Maynard is seriously nice. It was an amazing experience hanging with them!
Know this vid was a few months back but if you get a chance, Dannyboy, (maybe you've seen it already), Rick Beato has a recent interview with Tool drummer Danny Carey, such a cool laid back guy, but he explains part of their writing process, their studio space is the same they've had since 1989, all Tool songs since Opiate were born and crafted in that jam space, that was cool to discover.
One of the greatest EVER Tool songs is "Three Little Pigs" under the band name "Green Jello" which they got sued by Jello and had to change the name to "Green Jelly"...check it out some time...after you do "Sober"
Before you go to a Tool show, just know they have a strict no cell phone policy. I went back in March and before the first song was done, over a dozen people were escorted out. It honestly makes for a much better concert experience than watching through a sea of other people's phones. Though Maynard usually announces that it's okay to record their final song of the evening. The only time you can really record is if they're playing as part of a festival or other event that isn't their tour.
This one goes so fucking hard I love it
Right on brother! Great reaction vid! Keep going. I suggest Pneuma...the Danny Carey drum cam version next....you will not regret it.
There's a claymation video for this song that you should check out. I think it was made by a fan, if i remember correctly. It's very dark, and beautiful. Great rain. Really enjoyed this video
Tool is beyond everything.....
A dozen or two listens is what it takes to comprehend this one
Welcome again to the perfection that is Tool
Sober Live!
If you listen long enough you’ll get it. They are so complex. I’m here for the DROP reaction!!
TooL, like to say The power and class of RHYTHM SESSION ...moreover....
I think i saw you elsewhere mention waiting to cover other bands as well. I think you should check out Soen. Especially their song The Antagonist.
Best song on 10,000 days in my opinion. Absolute banger
i just saw them play this with alex lifeson. was insane as this was already one of my top three tool songs.
Yup, the first time you can’t find the beat, it will take you a while but once you do, you’ll never forget it 🤘🏻🌀
Ooh chills. I get them everytime I hear Maynards voice. If you go to their concert though you're only allowed to film the last song. Or as Danny Carey says our tunes lol. Please can you do 7empest from fear innoculum. And also have you listened to any of his other bands A perfect circle and puscifer. His voice harmonizing with carina round Puscifer is beautiful
Stop...Drop...and Roll...Vicarious should be next!!!
I’ve already done vicarious
Tool is one of a kind, a band's band. No other is like Tool which is odd considering Maynard has three bands currently active: Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer.
You must go to the show! ❤
My favorite Tool song
Is no one talking about 'Opiate' ? .. Not only is it an epic song, but it's a good way to listen how much Tool have progressed as a band, album to album.
Tearing up, eh?
Wings for Marie / 10,000 Days....
🤘
Tool has complex time signatures that in an interview Maynard explained why tool is not popular music that you tap your foot along with and their fans have more of a connection with the music.
In order to get your mind blown, you need to react to the studio version of "Pneuma" from Tool's latest album. Then, and only then, follow it up with the drum-cam version featuring their drummer, Danny Carey. You'll thank me later, and so will everyone else lol
This is definitely one of the most elaborate polyrhythms they do.
Gojira, for heaven'a sake 😢😢 Anything from Red Rocks or The Link Alive, man...also greetings from Chile, its being really nice to see you discovering Tool 👽😍
Recommending "Right in Two" as a followup - I think you'll love it!
Also the the holy trinity, reflection, disposition, and triad all in a row. (Disposition’s intro silences cocky bass players)
Recommended Tool song: The Patient
Also start watching old concerts on youtube of tool, like from 1992, 91, 1996, they are FIRE
You can bet that 99% of TOOL songs are in an odd time so you’ve got to think out of the box. Besides, TOOL is an experience every time you listen, so just go for the ride man !!!
This is the reaction I was waiting for
Well done
46&2 should be next
Have lyrics at the ready
You’ll tear up
I’ve done forty six & 2
@@MollyBoyTV aaagh no! Sorry
“Right in Two” is what I mean to say
Must be the liquor talkin’ tonight
Lol
Reflection from lateralus is one you should definitely react to
