@@davidbrown5714 watched em on the 19th in portland, did they mention how quiet the crowd was, maynard said he planned on embarrassing us in tacoma lol...was like my 12th tool show , was just as good as the first one
Fun fact, this song is composed in fibonacci sequence, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 etc. When you put it in a graph it makes a "spiral". Its a sequence discovered from patterns in nature like the way plants grow, the way seashells form, and so on. But the spiral is a referance to "the butterfly effect" each action opens another path and each decision feeds off of the last. So in a nutshell as you move through life make your choices then stand by them, "ride the spiral to the end" so following your lifes path, "and may just go where no ones been" well thats pretty self explanatory your path is different from everyone elses so where you arrive will be unique.
There are so many advanced concepts in their music it is hard to condense it into a short paragraph. You'll have to do some of your own reserch, sorry but it's worth it.
"Black" 1 "then" 1 "white are" 2 "all I see" 3 "in my infancy" 5 "red and yellow then came to be" 8 "reaching out to me" 5 "let's me see" 3..etc (in a spiral). This also applies to the note placement but that's a lil over my head to explain
You are actually ‘spiraling out’ now. Listening to new music, learning new things, expanding your horizons, opening your mind for new experiences. And the more you learn and experience, the wider the spiral becomes. Ride that spiral into the unknown dude and you will experience amazing things.
One of my favorite songs too. They have so many great lyrics "Give away the stone. Let the oceans take and Transmutate this cold and fated anchor. Give away the stone. Let the waters kiss and Transmutate these leaden grudges into gold."
That’s what I’ve always thought, I can’t really name of favorite, because which ever one I happen to be listening seems to me to be my favorite at that point.
The Fibonacci sequence is what you get when you add the previous 2 numbers in a sequence to derive the next number. 0 + 1 = 1, 1 + 1 = 2, 1 + 2 = 3, 2 + 3 = 5, 3 + 5 = 8, 5 + 8 = 13, etc. You get 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, and so forth. Which is basically the mathematical equivalent of a spiral, and it's found literally everywhere in nature, from flower blossoms, to snail shells, to pine cones and galaxies, and much more. Tool based a lot of this song around that sequence. It's found in there from the number of syllables in the lyrics, to the changing time signatures, and even the length of the song. It's pretty mind blowing stuff. Man, you're discovering and reacting to some of my all time favorite bands and songs here. I'm enjoying hearing and rediscovering bands like Tool and Metallica *Vicariously* through you the first time again!
You have to watch the live drum can of Pneuma by tool so you can get a feel of just how masterful Danny Carey is at his craft, truly a once in a lifetime band
if you _EVER_ get the chance to see tool live and can afford it (not cheap anymore, for good reason) you can't pass it up. best live shows you'll ever see. that's a promise.
I'm and older classic rock guy (Pink Floyd's my favorite band) and in my opinion Tool are very special. I also think it's perfectly ok to just love them sonically. Yes, their lyrics are very deep and for those willing to dive down into them they can make the music even greater but it's not a requirement to enjoy this or any other band.
Spiral out to me means...to let your spirit reach beyond - into the unknown gaining insight about yourself along the way. Do not be afraid of organized chaos.
Not only understanding it intellectually, but also being able to experience this song through that understanding is kind of a Tool fan entrance exam. Maynard tells you to 'embrace the random', and 'embrace whatever may come', and then the band proceeds to musically push reality through itself. The true beauty of this song is found in gaining the ability to take it all in.
YOU are responsible for me having a sleepless night last night- and I cannot thank you enough!!! If it was not for your reaction, I would not have known that Tool are going to be touring all over Europe again next year. So I immediately checked their tour calendar and realized they are playing in Cologne, too. I felt like a child on Christmas Eve! Needless to say I purchased two tickets, so I will finally get to see them live, too!!!
They are coming to Cologne again!?! So stoked to hear that! Although the sound in the Lanxess Arena is not the best, but it's still Tool!!! Edit: It's at my birthday as well!!! So cool! We just sold one kidney to pay the hefty ticket prize, but Tool is the only band worth it.

Don’t even try to pick a favorite Tool song… it depends on the day. Lol. My consistant favorite is “The Grudge” because it speaks to me on such a spiritual level… Maynard writes his lyrics from the perspective of humanity - as in, things all humans experience through life on one level or another. His lyrics are deeply philosophical. He also has a wicked sense of humor (as does the rest of the band) so many songs are metaphors and have tongue in cheek lyrics. I am sooo excited to watch you go on this journey. All of us Tool fans remember the awe and wonder we experienced when we first heard these guys, and the closest thing we get to experiencing that again is watching someone who connects with music like yourself experience them for the first time. Yeah man, love that stank-face from the guitar solo. That's Adam Jones making those sounds come out. Nice reaction!! We've all been deciphering Tool's lyrics for decades, and they change they're feeling over time.

There's so many layers and intricacies that it'll keep drawing you back. Might i suggest Pneuma or Right in Two as your next? Have fun ;-)
If you really want to climb in Maynard's head, go to Jimmy and start the journey about his mother's aneurysm. It will leave you a changed person, but it also spans his other bands, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer.
If you want to see how deep and personal TOOL songs can be, you should check out Jambi. It is about the singer Maynard's mom passing away, and it is one of the few songs that actually makes me choke up.

I started to type out a book about the fibnacci sequence and how it applies to this song and realized it was such a big book nobody would read it. lol I really really really recommend you watch this video (it would make a good reaction) to an analysis of Lateralus which goes in depth. You're not just crying, your soul is finally escaping for a much needed breather. TOOL music unlocks the inner psyche of our emotion, feelings, desires, fears, and needs. Spiral out!
You MUST go see them! Especially after your apt Floyd comparison. Tool is an EXPERIENCE! I have seen a lot of good live music, but rarely were they such an immersive experience. Tool is a band anyone could forever geek out on, and that is intentional. Maynard in particular loves to fuck with the fan base. So there is always their technical skill, but the “depth” of the lyrics, the “esoteric” and “secret” meanings, etc. it allows everyone to be a justified music snob..lol.. Then there is Danny Carey on the kit. And it is a MONSTER kit. Widely considered one of, and some argue THE GOAT on the drums. I know nothing about music, but even I recognize his technical skill. That man looks so smooth, that he COMMANDS your brain to recognize how good he is, even if you don’t like Tool. He is THAT good!
I've been listening to that song for over 20 years, and I'm still discovering things about it. Glad you are hearing this, because Tool is an experience.
I've seen them 8 times now it was my son's first he can't stop listening to them and won't take the shirt I got him off. You are in for a treat, enjoy.
Read here about the fibbonacci sequence: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibonacci_sequence short answer is that it is a sequence in math that forms spirals and appears all over nature (ferns, sea shells, relationships between the sizes of body parts, etc.). It is one of those sequences at the basis of reality.
Bro love watching your journey with Tool. Keep going and we’ll keep watching. And yes def take in the live show when they tour there in the not so distant future. But Im gonna be a typical tool fan douche and say you weren’t ready for this. I wasn’t either. I didn’t get the hype at first.. For a long time really. I had to circle back to this one, and Third eye. Then I saw them live for 1st time in 2010. They opened with third eye and it melted my brain. Haven’t recovered. Then they played Lateralus and I caught it. And have never let it go. I’ve seen them 4 times since with most recent being just a few weeks ago. I’ve grown so fond of FI and to see them playing that album brought me to tears, twice. First when they opened with FI, then during Descending. There’s no words. But all I’m saying is they are a band that takes you on a journey. And just because you don’t like it or get a song of theirs now, doesn’t mean you won’t love it later. We’re lucky to see this shit in our lives. Peace from Canada
So after my first comment I did some more research.... I started watching TOOL reaction videos during 2020. We all remember 2020, right??? So since then there have been a few reactions to Swamp Song which I watched them today but.... I still stand by the fact that this is EARLY TOOL which most don t react to as much and they (TOOL) were still great and beyond their time back then. Still aching for more reactions to this song because it is better than 46 & 2
Literally the best concert that I've been to and I've easily been to over 100 big name band concerts. I've seen Tool live 14 times and his other band A Perfect Circle 5 times. Buy those tickets you'll regret it if you don't!
Now you have to do the reaction video with Parabol and Parabola, it has to be like that because the 2 songs are conected...well the entire album is but this 2 songs more 🤟🏼
Two suggestions with Tool, Headset and first listen through just audio. Tool is a unique experience. I would not emphasize these suggestions with any other band.
Tool was my first concert experience, Oct 19, 1996 at the Wilson Theatre in Fresno, USA. I've seen them 6 times. As your attorney I advise you to go even if by yourself. You might not get a chance another for years and you will never forget the experience. No two shows were alike and everyone was bigger and louder and better. Go.
When the Lateralis album launched, I went and saw tool in 2002… it was the greatest rock concert I have ever been to. So if you have a chance to go… you must! Who knows how many more tours they still have in them… enjoy the journey.
One song that I love and I've never seen a reaction to is Swamp Song. It is 1990's TOOL so I don't really understand why nobody has reacted to it. In my opinion it's way better than 46 & 2. Also, if you go to a TOOL concert you will not regret it. In fact it might be something you tell your grandchildren about. It is an immersive experience with phenomenal music.
Polo reacts has reacted to it. Lots of UA-camrs have done all of TOOL songs except for Sweat from Opiate because it’s licensed to a John Carpenter movie Escape from New York
Congrats on the 10k subscribers! Danny Carey is one of the best drummers in the world. If you want to see him in action, I suggest you react to Pneuma live from Danny Carey's perspective. It will help you understand why they're such a great band. And if you have ever played the drums, you will get a kick out of it.
I don't even think you have to be a drummer to appreciate the skill on display in that video. His limb independance is incredible and he makes it look so easy.
The content of Tool songs is meant for you to interpret. "Spiral out" means exactly what that phrase makes YOU feel or think. All four members of Tool are masters of their craft...and several other crafts as well.Take what they give you and make it your own. There is no try...only Tool.
What no new Tool listener ever does…. Listen with your eyes closed. It’s a whole new experience taking away one sense to enhance your listening sense. I recommend it

basically it comes down to this , best alt metal band is Tool by miles. best 'space rock' band is Pink Floyd by miles(and the best band ever imo) best out and out 'rock band is ac/dc, best 'metal' band is Irion maiden. Best grunge band Pearl Jam. best single Singer-songwriter musician rock/folk/celtic artist is van morrison by miles. He can play anything many styles of music too Genres Blue-eyed soulCelticrockR&Bfolkblues rockbluessouljazzrockgospel (tho personally I dislike jazz music) love blues though. bob dylan also is great.
The ending to this song is one of the best i have ever heard. It's right there with the endings to Stairway to Heaven, Comfortably Numb and In the Air Tonight. Truly Awesome!
Don't buy too much into the maths and depth that so many people spout about. It's never really the intention from Tool, and in Lateralus it was more consequential than planned. They're just an INCREDIBLY dedicated and focused band. They made their lane, and know how to stay in it better than most. I'm a 30yr fan and have seen them twice. One of the greatest bands ever imo.
MollyBoy - if you only ever go to one more gig in your lifetime, make sure it's a TOOL gig. They are playing Birmingham UK in June next year and tickets are on sale NOW !! It will be an experience you will never forget. Myself, I've already got my ticket, and will be seeing them for the sixth time. Spiral out buddy.
3:29 see this is why they say the video is a distraction XD not because you paused, but because that's only the theme of this track, not how it makes you feel when you hear it- without the video. otherwise if you're not familiar with the golden ratio- you're going to try and learn it as fast as you can, as a concept, AND listen to one of the best tracks made in music history. Edit: good job :) usually people can't make it through the video because they are trying to figure out several things at once and can't fully be immersed. well done.
Spiraling outwards is a metaphor as I noticed you asked the question. Think of it this way, if you are spiraling inwards you are moving towards the center, collapsing on yourself and going down. Where is if you reverse the direction, you are broadening, seeing more, encompassing more of what is around you, and in Tools case pushing the edge of this beyond what we might imagine is possible, hence the push the envelope and watch it bend and grappling with the line between humanity and divinity.
My guy, LOVE how much you’re enjoying Tool! They’re incredible, plus their catalog is big enough you’ll have tracks to discover for a long while. However, i didn’t look through all your videos but I’ve noticed an absence of a Ren playlist. Your video titles say you’re a rap fan, let’s go mate what ya waiting for!? Ren is a relatively new UK artist who’s blowing up. His new album Sick Boi just charted number 1 in UK. I’d love to enjoy watching you discover him as well

You're not just crying, your soul is finally escaping for a much needed breather.
TOOL music unlocks the inner psyche of our emotion, feelings, desires, fears, and needs.
Spiral out!
Well done! Great reaction! I have been a fan of tool for almost 30 years and that song still gives me shivers every time.
Danny Carey plays the hell out of the drums every song. One of the more interesting sounding drummers imo. Glad you are enjoying your Tool journey!
I've been listening to that song for over 20 years, and I'm still discovering things about it. Glad you are hearing this, because Tool is an experience.
I love how your slang expressions sound so American 😂 Great reaction. See them live while you can.
Saw these guys last night 🤯
I’m going for the first time in Feb, so excited!
I've seen them 8 times now it was my son's first he can't stop listening to them and won't take the shirt I got him off. You are in for a treat, enjoy.
Congratulations for cracking the 10K 🎉 Let me recommend doing „Parabol/Parabola“ next and make sure to get them together in one clip.
Read here about the fibbonacci sequence: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibonacci_sequence
short answer is that it is a sequence in math that forms spirals and appears all over nature (ferns, sea shells, relationships between the sizes of body parts, etc.). It is one of those sequences at the basis of reality.
I can’t wait to see you watch Danny Carey play, all drummers are in awe of him
Bro love watching your journey with Tool.
Now you have to do the reaction video with Parabol and Parabola, it has to be like that because the 2 songs are conected...well the entire album is but this 2 songs more 🤟🏼
If you like Adam Jones on guitar-I’d go for “7empest” from their newest album next! It won a Grammy!
Two suggestions with Tool, Headset and first listen through just audio. Tool is a unique experience. I would not emphasize these suggestions with any other band.
Poets with metal in their hearts.
The sprial out reference is about the golden spiral which is prevalent in the universe.
Just saw them play Swamp Song live a few weeks ago in Portland, OR.
They played it in St. Paul on Halloween, one of the greatest nights of my life
Most people just don't appreciate Opiate and Undertow as much.
You definitely need to see them live…you will not be disappointed!
So for the ultimate hold my beer song for these guys check out 7emptest! Adam just shreds the guitar, and Danny on drums is pure magic!
What no new Tool listener ever does…. Listen with your eyes closed. It’s a whole new experience taking away one sense to enhance your listening sense. I recommend it
to me this is the ultimate song. its drifty, beautiful, a journey of sorts. close your eyes and drift away. spiral out keep going. We cannot encourage you enough to see them live. its life changing wonderfulness
Best Tool song. I’m old enough to know their beginning. This song always put me in the Tool nuance
In my opinion, there is no bad Tool song, but I feel like you would really enjoy reacting to Jambi.
basically it comes down to this , best alt metal band is Tool by miles. best 'space rock' band is Pink Floyd by miles(and the best band ever imo)
best out and out 'rock band is ac/dc, best 'metal' band is Irion maiden. Best grunge band Pearl Jam. best single Singer-songwriter musician rock/folk/celtic artist is van morrison by miles. He can play anything many styles of music too Genres
Blue-eyed soulCelticrockR&Bfolkblues rockbluessouljazzrockgospel (tho personally I dislike jazz music) love blues though. bob dylan also is great.
I just saw Tool live for the seventh time two weeks ago, you will not be disappointed, it's an amazing show!
Yes you did get 10k! Props!! Lateralus is my favorite mind altering song! That's what's up! Subbed
Thanks for the sub!
Yes , start from the beginning
The ending to this song is one of the best i have ever heard. It's right there with the endings to Stairway to Heaven, Comfortably Numb and In the Air Tonight. Truly Awesome!
Ive seen the live...insane show. Their lazer show almost rivals Pink Floyd...i couldnt believe it.
If you get the chance go see Tool live. You won't regret it. Seen em 3 times since 1998 and they are the best band I've ever seen live.
Bend your mind with their '46 & 2' young brother, I am here for it all!
Yassss! Spiral out! Open your mind.
Yes go see them live!
You 💯 have to see them!!!!!!! It would be a travesty not to go!
Starting your day with Tool is magic!
Edit: good job :) usually people can't make it through the video because they are trying to figure out several things at once and can't fully be immersed. well done.
TOOLARMY. I subscribed because of Tool. Welcome to the Toolarmy 💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’d love to enjoy watching you discover him as well
hey bro, Im 39 years old and this has been my personal all time favorite band since I was 16 back during the Aenema days. Here is a recommended play list from a guy who's been listening to them for over 20 years:
1. Aenema
2. Lost Keys/Rossetta Stoned
3. Jambi
4. The Grudge
5. Third Eye
6. Eulogy
7. The Swamp Song
8. Undertow
9. Opiate
10. Sober (Live Version)
11. Pushit (Salival Version)
12. Schism
13. Fear Inoculum
Just got my tool ticket for Manchester bro, im from northern Ireland and saw them in London last year for the first time, please go you won't regret it!
Toronto Monday 20th, absolutely amazing!. A must experience 👍
Your reflection at the end here is the definition of spiral out, keep going friend
It honestly warms my heart to watch people discover Tool (and other Maynard bands, i.e. A Perfect Circle & Puscifer, but ESP Tool)!
You absolutely MUST do Ænima & Rosetta Stoned, next!
Or visa versa...
You won't regret a single Tool song, but I'm REALLY REALLY eager to see your reaction to those!
Please 🥺😁😇
Thank you for sharing your first times with us! 💞
5:54 I first saw them on the "second stage" at Lollapalooza in 1993 in Ogden, Utah. Since then I have seen them 12 more times. I can honestly say that the last 2 times I have seen them have been the best concerts I have ever seen (And I have gone to so many concerts from so many great bands).
Your reaction made ME cry. Maynard is deep! There is a mathematical reason behind every note and word and timing of this song. You want classic tool?? I’d love to see your reaction to SOBER!
Once the light comes on there’s no turning back! 😳😎
