the Hacksmith holy spirit I never expected to see one of your comments on here I just stumbled across this guy and find your comment you have really great ideas and it would be cool if you guys made something together
I don't need to tell you that the armor looks incredible.. Sewing is as much a mans job as a woman's, custom auto upholstery is but one thing that comes to mind. In the mid 70's a few friends and I bucked convention and took home economics, cooking and sewing, it was supposed to help us with the girls, it didn't but 40+ years later I do most of the cooking and recently pulled out the old singer for some leather crafting, over the years I've made dresses for my daughters, tents and duffle/carry bags not to forget sewing on hundreds of patches...OK maybe not hundreds..... you have a wide range of skills for a man your age, a man of the age, a Renaissance man if you will. A man once asked, disparagingly, how I could sew my daughters dresses or braid their hair, inferring that it's not "manly" at 6'2, 230lbs with hair to my waist and beard to my chest, first off I'm not worried but I turned the question back on him, "you are a boater how is it that you can't sew a sail or braid a line"? I always enjoy your videos and still chuckle over your ghost peppers. Hope you have a great time on your trip...
You're turning in to Batman on a budget. You've got the armour. You've got the gadgets. You've got the non-lethal weapons to catch criminals. Now all you need is a gimmicky, somewhat impractical tool, like an electric netgun or something.
Greyhound do you like not watch his videos, hes slowly but surely making an entire suit. he has gauntlets, shoulders, knees, shins, torso, helmet, its definitely a wip
@@MacCoalieCoalson I’ll be making some videos for armor and weapons inspired by this soon so go watch those when they’re released in maybe a few weeks!!
For sewing the webbing I suggest doing a box. You can see them on car seatbelts and backpacks. It distributes the load to more of the belt and less on the thread. Also might look at a using an awl so you aren't breaking the strands in the cloth while still getting the fitting through.
Let's hope no one thinks this will stop bullets. Seriously people, the steel is nowhere hard enough or thick enough to stop bullets. You'd be lucky if it stopped a .22LR - and you might still be injured by spalling. Cool build though. Would help in a riot.
ELMITLON Yes, are you AT ALL aware of the physics behind a bullet? A .45 is one of the easiest bullets (Talking common calibers, there a lot of shittier rounds.) to stop. This is mild steel which is the only reason I said "probably" I've seen a 1/4 high carbon steel plate shot with a .45 and there was barley a dent left, The 9mm punched through and a .223 went through it like it wasn't even there.
This has no prob with 22 at all. I've shot very thin barrel steel up close with normal CCI twice, no pen. So it'll take most shotgun shells too. Pity armor's not overlapping.
Equalpower I'd still not trust it. Barrels are made to take a lot of stress. Tread plate is just made to be stuck on the floor, usually over another type of flooring.
There is a button at 12:52 to the lower right of the red logo on your machine. It runs the machine's foot backwards to double over your work to effectively tie it off. It is called "Locking the stitch." You'll still be fine for a while without it, but next time it'll be more secure. I learned making pillows in home ec and mostly hallowe'en costumes.😃 Great work!
You dont need a shop, i work in a room in my apartment, only have like $200 worth of tools + a $28 homemade workbench, the space which i actually do stuff would be the space that the work bench occupies so 6 sq ft of space, granted my workbench permanently has objects strewn around on it
he has come so far! I remember 2 years ago the first video of his that I watched was the Warhammer video! Your skills have greatly improved! keep up the good work
I don't know if you've already thought of it, but I have a suggestion for you. Instead of cutting the fabric, and sewing it, you could use a T-shirt that is too small, or even a nylon jacket so you could melt through the material. With this method, the majority of the sewing is already done. Great videos, you are very talented.
A 9mm will definitely put a dent in it. Maybe doubling the layer of armor, heck even triple it if you've got the back strength to wear something that heavy.
CakesAreNom Sake uh, yeah it would. I didn't say a tank shell or a .50BMG, I said a handgun caliber. (No, not including insane revolvers like a SW 500)
When attaching the webbing to the canvas, a bar tack stitch would be heckin' strong. Most heavy duty gear bags and plate carriers use this stitch due to its superior strength.
Technically most bows around the ancient periods were more powerful than Crossbows of the same era. With that said, a Composite bow vs a Hunting Cross-bow these days... Well it's iffy.
I like the DESIGN, but the gaps between the plates just present too many weak points in my opinion. I personally would go with more of a lamellar (likely spelled that wrong)or overlapping plate structure and harden the steel. BUT that's just me, still a great video, keep it up bruh.
This music stressed me the hell out, felt like a bomb was ticking or something was counting down... Please never use this again, if anyone else feels that same way like this to show him we all feel that way.
I have been sewing things for several years now, and i have a few basic points that you may find helpful. Firstly, when sewing two pieces together, use sewing pins to hold the fabrics together, that way you minimalize the risk of one piece folding under, and completely fucking up your stitching. Secondly, i didnt notice this in the video, but you might have done it, when begining and ending a stitch on the machine, go forward, then reverse the stitch 3-4 times to essentially tie it off and make sure the thread doesnt come loose. Thirdly, when you have to sew a seam like you had to at 14:24, you can do one of two things, you can either use sewing pins again, fold the fabric in like it is elsewhere so that the loose threads are inside, pin it shut to keep it that way, then sew it on the machine (faster but doesnt look as nice) or fold it under, use pins, and use a needle to spiral the thread across the edge to keep it shut (slower but looks nicer) i may have sewn things for quite some time, but i have no idea what the terminology is so if anyone knows the terms and what im talking about, im so sorry for making these horrible mistakes with nomenclature alas, that is the end of my beginner tip for sewing. nice job on the armour, it looks quite impressive.
theres a big part of me that is looking at this project and thinking 'you might as well make a medieval coat of places, it achieves the same design concept just BETTER
What you called an "Inseam" is called a "Seam Allowance" bro. Really goes to show how understanding how things work is more important than what they're called. Good job by the way, even on the sewing.
helpful hint when your sewing put pins along where your seem is going to be and so when your done your seem will be cleaner and more neat and also less room for mess ups
Just a heads up but staur foam , baby bottles , trash bags etc, makes cyanide gas when it burns or melted with heat, along with most all plastics. So good ventilation is a must.
Prop making/weaponsmithing/armorsmithing feels amazing because (At least to me) it feels like I'm in an apocalypse, making my set of armor or making some armor for my teammates.
5:00 True story: some guys in my machining class were drilling metal on the drill press. I went over to see why three people were needed for this simple task. Turns out they had a decent burr going and they wanted to see how long they could get it, it was being held by the other two guys' bare hands so that it wouldn't collapse under its own weight. I tell them to shut it off. They were kind of bummed out that I ruined their fun, but I took some wire snips and cut an eight inch length of the burr and had them follow me to a bench with a vice. I clamped a piece of paper into the vice so it's only supported on one side and grabbed a razor blade and sliced the paper pretty easily, they were confused, obviously the razor will cut paper. Next I took the burr and cut halfway through the paper much easier than the razor, at the half way point I started making crazy twists and turns to show off how terrible an injury this would make while flailing around in their hands. Burrs are one the the scariest things I've come across in a workshop besides a buffing wheel.
I really love your builds even though I'll probably not be able to make a single thing for a long while. However, I do sew, so here's to hoping you get the hang of using your machine more in the future. It beats handsewing and once you learn more, you'll figure out the best stitches and techniques for the job (like how to cut to help curved seams or using certain stitches to enable stretching). Don't forget to lock in stitches when you start them though (sew back and forth a few times before starting a line of stitching) so that it doesn't loosen at the ends or split.

yeah, that's my point

Everyone saying the webbing is a seatbelt the seatbelt is actually the webbing

Also upper and lower front side and back arm armor including an articulated hand glove design like the ones in mediaval armor
