With the stock suspension it would have same clearance as it does stock. This fender is mounted in all stock locations. It’s just cut shorter. You can safely do this with stock suspension it’s just you would have larger gap between the tire and rear fender.
@@rev7garage do you know of any shorter springs that would have the same effect without the loss of comfort? Have you found your bar replacement to be particularly uncomfortable?? And how much did you lower it by?? Love the build btw!
@@felixdavison4634 I’ve done the popular “j-slam” where it uses the stock spring, but relocates the top mounting hole to get 2-3inches of lowering. You can’t go any smaller with the spring because the swing arm would then hit the frame while riding. This bike was maxed out to how low it could go. Hi, coming back a couple years later but if this is a 650, then the frame doesn’t have the part where it hangs above the rear tire, like the 1100. Unless this is an 1100 and you just chopped the frame off screen. Does the rear fender still have enough support to carry a passenger?
I want my rear fender to look like yours but i dont really have a shop not do i know how to weld. Maybe I’ll just cut it nice enough then lower the suspension
Highly suggest lowering the bike first to help find the flow of the bike. Honestly you could cut the fender with a hack saw or coping saw and make sure you have a file to clean the edges. Almost anything I do could be done with basic tools. For the fender struts you essentially could cut them shorter and drill new holes instead of welding them
@@rev7garage thank you! To be honest I want something bigger like an dragstar1100 because the price for a 650 is almost the same as the 1100. Do you think I can still do that chopper fender style on yamaha dragstar1100?

Very sorry for the late reply I’ve ran every bike I’ve ever built like this with zero binding issues. I ended up with a Suzuki C50 and know that the lowering kit for it also is the same as the Yamaha 650 and 1100. I wonder if the strut you made for this bike would work for the C50 🤔
Great job... I was impressed with this bike. Looks amazing Only a question.. Can you put a passenger seat on the new fender? Did you left the hole to fix it?
Thank you! This fender has enough room to put a small seat on. The stock mounting hole was cut off for the passenger seat. But you could easily not cut as far back and leave it… or they sell small bolt on passenger pads on amazon. There are both bolt on and suction cup versions that fit with this fender modification

Yes. Removed the bolts to cut and weld them on a table and reinstalled
