Regina (Rachel McAdams) gives Cady (Lindsay Lohan) the low-down on her and Janis' lost friendship.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Tina Fey from Saturday Night Live wrote and appears in this comedy about the alternately funny and terrifying pecking order among teenage girls. Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) is a 15-year-old girl who has spent most of her life in Africa, where she was home-schooled by her zoologist parents. When her family relocates to the United States, Cady finds herself attending a high school in suburban Illinois, where she gets a crash course in the various sub-strata of the student body: the jocks, the cheerleaders, the stoners, the "cool" kids, and so on. Much to her surprise, Cady finds herself embraced by a clique of rich and popular girls known to outsiders as "the Plastics," led by Regina George (Rachel McAdams), Gretchen Weiners (Lacey Chabert), and Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried). While Cady is grateful for her new friends, it doesn't take long for her to realize how manipulative they can be, and she soon discovers she's violated an unwritten law when she goes out on a date with Aaron (Jonathan Bennett), who is charming, good looking...and Regina's former boyfriend. It isn't long before Regina and her pals are on the warpath, and Cady must face a level of vengeful behavior for which years in the jungle never prepared her. Regina just assumed that Janis was a lesbian because she wants to believe everyone loves her. Janis might have just been pissed that her former best friend started to forget that she existed because of the boyfriend. Her reactions could simply imply that Regina kept on ignoring her a lot.

PINKpanties I don´t think Barbie Regina and non-plastic Janis suited eachother, not even as friends! I guess Barbie-girl Regina at some point started to grow tired of Janis, thinking she was boring. That´s probably why she decided to start bullying her! Remember Barbie Regina was a spoilt ass from birth, who had never before experienced what it´s like to be the victim of bullying, so she coulden´t even care if she bullied her ex best friend. Yeah, I have had this happen to me and seen it happen with others. For whatever reason, some teenager girls just get bored with their friends and decide it would be fun to suddenly shun them and laugh at them because they aren't cool anymore.
I personally believe in Regina's story mostly because so many hints are dropped by Janis that she is indeed a lesbian and even when called out, she doesn't deny it so either Regina's story is 100% or Janis isn't a lesbian and doesn't care.
Caesar Seriona what hints? I didn’t get that Janis was a lesbian at all, & at the end of the film shes dating Kevin. Plus her best friend Damien was openly gay so it’s not as though there was a stigma against homosexuals at the school. When Janis sarcastically says “gosh I don’t know why I did it, I guess it’s because I’ve got a big lesbian crush on you!” she indirectly denies being a lesbian & says that she’s mean to Regina because she hates her, not because she’s in love with her

I always thought Janis’ side would have been Regina telling everyone at school that she was a lesbian and being bullied so much that she had to leave.

Idk about you, but I kind of want to see a prequel about Janis. Her character is really interesting. Like, how did she end up as a plastic? Did she know Karen and Gretchen, or did Regina meet them in the 9th grade? Was Janis' interest in art a secret? How did she meet Damian?
I just really want to see a prequel, but I don't want it to be a direct to DVD film with D list actors or an ABC Family made for television film...we tried that before.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the reason she had to leave school for a while had to do with Janice either having thoughts of suicide or having made an attempt at it. Not that all goths are suicidal but adopting a darker style also seems to fit with that theory.

So, that was her big, deep, dark secret. That's why Janice was so embarrassed and scared and freaked out all the time back when Damien would try say something to Cady about her past life with Regina and how Regina humiliated her. That is just awful. Me and my crew almost lost our friendship kinda like this once. Boy, the drama of high school. It takes a powerful turn on you.

Basically Regina discarded and blew off her best friend for a boyfriend who likely left her (“moved to Indiana”) and Janis was complaining bc she felt like she was losing her best friend. Because of her preteen narcissism, Regina couldn’t inwardly evaluate that she was being a bad friend to Janis. So, she decided that the problem was Janis “being too in love with her”, and not her admittedly “blowing her off”. Instead of owning up to how she treated Janis, she crushes her best friend, by uninviting her to her birthday party and calling her lesbian claiming that Janis was in love with her. Since Regina spreads rumors about everyone, she likely told all the girls that Janis was a crazy lesbian and “obsessed with her”. Janis, isolated and powerless, was likely bullied and excluded to the point that no one talked to her. If she reacted to Regina’s rumors and insistence that she was “in love with her” she would be seen as crazy, reinforcing Regina’s point. I’m sure that she was bullied to the point of having to drop out of school. Regina’s mother never actually parents her narcissistic preteen daughter, never tells her to be kind to her friends, and to stop bullying people, but instead defends her terrible daughter, and lets her have her way.

I don’t know why, but the leitmotif with the drums in the scoring is so good at conveying drama and covert suspension. The classic theme really gets into the feeling of youth drama, and vitriol against other people. It’s like you literally hear this in the back of your mind when talking smack. The pizzicato of the violin is really a climbing staircase of oddity about being a lesbian and it’s really clever. whoever scored Mean Girls was smart asf
