You know what? How the hell did Aaron make it to twelfth grade calculus if he has absolutely no idea what he's doing? Is calculus really all that different??
yeah its basically a completely different course than any prior math in high school. Relies on basic concepts of previous courses but it focuses on different things.
It bugs me how he says the PRODUCT of two negative numbers can be positive. I think he meant the sum. When I hear the product, I automatically think of multiplication.
Well in reality, the product of two negative numbers does equal a positive. Like you take 5X5 you get 25, 5X-5 gives you negative 25, and -5X-5 would give you 25. To me it's like 5X5 are working together so they get a positive result, 5 and negative five are not working together (ones being negative) so they get a negative result. And so on and so forth with -5 and -5 working together also.
Rully Harto no, product indicated multiplication. If it was difference or something like that, then you could say sometimes. But there’s no ambiguity to product. It means multiplication

I can assure you math is not the same in every country. My parents grew up in China and they learned different things than I do now and don't know how about imaginary numbers and trig identities. Plus the way they teach you even the basic things is different in different countries
Well, I think what she really meant was that math is like a universal language. All the symbols, numbers, types of problems etc., it is basically the same - you see 2+2 and the answer is 4 (at least it should be), no matter the country you're from. You will learn algebra, geometry, trigonometry and other sections. It's not like with history, for example, where you learn more about your own country, and the interpretation of some historical facts may vary, some things may be omitted, etc.

"Please find the limit of this equation." That is an incorrect statement for two reasons: (1) On the screen it already SAYS "lim" (meaning limit), so for the moderator to say "please find the limit" is REDUNDANT. (2) You do NOT find limits of equations, you find limits of EXPRESSIONS. The argument of the limit shown on the screen is an EXPRESSION, not an equation. [An equation contains an equal sign, as in 3x - 5 = 10, for example.] As for the exercise, first replace 1-cos^2(x) with sin^2(x) in the denominator. Then, inserting 0 for x in the expression gives you 0/0, an indeterminate form. So then apply L Hopital's Rule and you get the limit argument to be [-1/(1-x) - cosx] / (2sinxcosx), and then inserting 0 for x in the expression gives you -2/0 which is an undefined expression and NOT an indeterminate form, so L Hopital's Rule CANNOT be used again. There is NO way to make sinx in the denominator cancel with anything on top, so the limit does NOT exist. Finally, it seems to me a little cheap to have a question which decides the state championship whose answer is "the limit does not exist". If one was to take a wild guess, that is the obvious choice for a wild guess.
Or you can insert 0 in ln(1-x) which gets you ln(1)=0. So the expression is now -sinx/1-cos^2x. 1-cos^2x=sin^2x. So it turned into -sinx/sin^2x. If we simply that we get -1/sinx. The numerator doesn't have any term with x now so we saved the expression from 0/0. If we write x=0 then we get sin0 which is 0. The expression is -1/0 which is undefined and that's why the limit does not exist. Some universities doesn't accept limit solutions using L'hospital(at least in my country) so that's why I wrote this. This certainly is way easier than university mathematics but whatever.

i remember watching this movie 5 years ago thinking how hard how the maths was. i watched this movie again for the first time in ages and was so proud of myself for understanding all the maths(or calculus?) idk where i am from maths isn't split up into categories, we do it as one subject.
O S M A N don't take your case for a generality , there's so many genies watching this video and commenting on it so what , doesn't mean they're dumb because they're watching mean girls , stop acting like jealous dumbass
@LilMarkymark17 L'Hopital's rule is only applicable when the limit of the derivatives exists at that point. That the limit you get when doing L'Hopital's doesn't exist does not mean that the original limit does not exist. It only implies that you can't use L'Hopital's rule to try to find the limit. See Wikipedia's entry on the rule, where they use the example f(x) = x + sin(x) and consider when x -> infinity. The limit of f(x) exists, but if you use L'Hopital, you get a non-existent limit.
I am. I originally put together these clips for a class of mine, a math appreciation type class, as a sort of introduction, to start the semester thinking a little more broadly and realistically about how math fits into our lives than is typical. Also as a little bit of an antidote to the usual pop math fare.
Okay if I remember correctly then if we plug 0 into the bottom portion of the equation we get 1-cos^2(0) Cos^2(0) = 1 And so 1-1=0 Which means over all we get Ln(1-x) - sinx/ 0 You can't divide by 0 which means the limit does not exist. You don't even need to look at the top part of the fraction. Am I right???? I'm taking calculus rn but we did this like a month ago so I could be wrong. Pls correct me if I'm wrong lol.
hello No, you are not right. The limit does not exist, but your method of just plugging in 0 does not work. The whole point of limits is to find out what the answer could be if you DO divide by zero. For example, consider the limit as x-->0 of x/x. If you plug in 0, you get something divided by 0. Of course you can't just say the limit does not exist, because you can simplify x/x to 1. So the limit is 1. To conclude, when you plug the number in and you get something divided by 0 that DOES NOT necessarily mean the limit DNE, it just means you need to do more work.
Fun fact, The High school used for North Shore High is in Toronto Canada, Etobicoke Collegiate Institute, interior shots like the auditorium was filmed at another Toronto High School, Malvern Collegiate Institute. There’s my useless fact for the day.

With the calculus grades though, why is she failing if all the work is right and just the answers are wrong? Do they not give marks for working?
Maybe most of the credit she was getting for the quizzes (the 60 percent or so that was right) was for her work
"Badass MC" 😂
6:35 - 741
8:18 - “the limit does not exist”
MOASS confirmed
I am watching this as I do my revision for GCSE's,
At 0:15 - I like Kevin’s nickname for Cady as “Africa.” I find it cute like how Lois Lane refers to Clark Kent as “Smallville.”
Aaron is a really sweet guy I feel really bad that he had to see this fake side of Cady
Can we take a moment to appreciate nerdy people, i mean don’t you love the passion they have into things many people don’t bat an eye over.
I love passionate people. Wouldn't necessarily call them nerdy.
Kevin G is the best part of the whole movie
i remember watching this movie 5 years ago thinking how hard how the maths was. i watched this movie again for the first time in ages and was so proud of myself for understanding all the maths(or calculus?) idk where i am from maths isn't split up into categories, we do it as one subject.
0:10 'cuz it's the same in every country'. 'that's beautiful' cady gives this confused look
don't let the haters stop you from doing your thang....hahaha
this is why Mean Girls is the greatest movie ever.
So many clueless people in the comments acting like they know shit about math. Stop.
O S M A N don't take your case for a generality , there's so many genies watching this video and commenting on it so what , doesn't mean they're dumb because they're watching mean girls , stop acting like jealous dumbass
Dude, ikr
"im a pusher i push people"
As a kid I used to think that they were doing super complicated math and now I realize......they were just talking about limits....
THAT'S UofT!!!! 5:29 (Convocation Hall)
and at 8:44 !!! (UC)
*hell
"all the work is right, and just the answers are wrong" for some reason I couldn't stop laughing from this line for a while
There is no way that a kid accusing a teacher of selling illegal drugs in a stupid hate book would trigger a full-fledged police investigation.
i knew I was grown up the moment I watched the movie and knew what “the limit does not exist” meant
i just wanna know how the actors of the competing school handle not being called cute like ow my self-esteem would just vanish
These people gives not fuck about being cute.
I think Cady should’ve offered to tutor Aaron
“Because [math] is the same in every country.” That is deep.
"Oh hi! Did you wanna buy some drugs?"
Lmao
Yes pls
"We'd like to get jackets."
8:40 Never noticed the judge's look when the guy ripped off his own shirt yelling
"But I'm grounded."
.....
"You're already out!"
Kevin: "wassup......."
Kady *scared face*
"don't bring other boys". guess who brought the whole team ?
6:27 Why did that guy buzz in so early? From the info we heard, the number could've been 741, 147, 345 or 543
The whole question was already on the projector
i was hoping like for the full and not just skipping parts but i still like it ☺☺☺☺☺☺😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😁😁😁😁😁😁
The analysis in the description is on point.
Dom't let the haters stop you from doing your thang....my fav line xD
I am. I originally put together these clips for a class of mine, a math appreciation type class, as a sort of introduction, to start the semester thinking a little more broadly and realistically about how math fits into our lives than is typical. Also as a little bit of an antidote to the usual pop math fare.
Kevin one of the funniest dudes in the show lmao
How can you find someone attractive if that person cannot differentiate between factorial and summation
Okay if I remember correctly then if we plug 0 into the bottom portion of the equation we get
1-cos^2(0)
Cos^2(0) = 1
And so 1-1=0
Which means over all we get
Ln(1-x) - sinx/ 0
You can't divide by 0 which means the limit does not exist.
Clumpy you’re both wrong 😂. The limit is -1/2
Fun fact, The High school used for North Shore High is in Toronto Canada, Etobicoke Collegiate Institute, interior shots like the auditorium was filmed at another Toronto High School, Malvern Collegiate Institute. There’s my useless fact for the day.
question at 6:25 is impossible to answer with given info
Basic 5th grade algebra
2x=5y+3
4x+3y=71
y=5 x=14
Oops, wrong question
Yeah you're right, 741 and 147 are both correct
Louie McConnell Am I such a nerd that I did the math problem, realized that the answer came to -1 / sin(0), which meant that it was undefined, which meant it didn't exist, so I laughed when Carolyn said -1? I promise I'm not a math geek, I'm just too type A to not do the problem, and it was the only one that made sense.
