Hey guys, everything I talk about in this video is related to the aesthetics and the differences in feel. This is not a tone comparison because I’ve changed pickups in the NJ. I figured where most people are buying guitars online now and not able to try before you buy, it’s handy to have a video talking about what they’re like to play. I hope that helps! P.s: the bits where I play both guitars are purely for entertainment as I felt it made the video better.
He is 100% correct but two tones allows you to some creative things. The better solution is for manufacturers to keep the one volume and two tones but move the volume pot location.
Really great pts on Jumbo frets, volume pot placement… easy to forget about that stuff when comparing online. But it really makes a huge difference in comfort/feel, which certainly makes a difference in how we play!!!
I love how lightly you have to touch the strings with jumbo frets… just can’t see myself playing anything else at this point. But I’ve always wanted a fender with jumbos
Just purchased a Nick Johnston Schecter. One thing I did notice was that the string tree was loose, is this by design? I tried to tighten it but the screw seems to be tight!
My Schecter HSS just arrived, I have Fender Strat 70s reissue made in Japan, pretty rare guitar, costs about the same and plays like butter too but for me that volume pot was so annoying. I find that if I play standing up, it's less of an issue but I'm mostly noodling at home. As far as I'm concerned, there are always many reasons to buy another guitar. The end. If you want Schecter, buy one, they are all great guitars for their price.
@@Rajonty Sire Larry Carlton S7 style is about $250 less than the Schecter and sounds more strat like imo. They also make an even cheaper S3 version at $399 too.
I mean it sounds poetic until you realize there is no magic. Nick Johnston helped designed those pickups they are supposed to be hot because he plays with a lot of gain. I have played both and I would happily replace the pickups in the Nick Johnston just because the quality of the guitar is way better than the fender
Hi Andy, The Schecter tuners are a bit stiff. But the strings are easy to change and they stay in tune very well. I installed a new volume pot and CS Fat 60 pickups 😃👌The Neck Profile of the NJ is great.
thank you for your video I'm interested in these two models. and try to compare Thank you video helped me a lot. And I totally agree with Fender's volume issues that tend to get hit. and make the sound softer My friends talk about this problem
The Schecter is just such a great guitar! I did change out the PUPs to what I like though .... Duncan Custom in bridge, Duckbucker in middle and Little 59 with coil splitting in the neck. It's just such an awesome playing guitar. Love them!
Hey Andy. I just found your video and watched it. I wanted to correct you on some things. First the fret wire. Shecter is using TALLER frets ( maybe 6105 size ) those are tall and thin. Fender is using LOWER frets. Im not sure of their number but they are called MEDIUM JUMBO FRETS, And that mean, they are low and wider. The taller thinner fret makes it easier to play because it raised the string height and makes the feeling of pressing the string more personal. you can get a better feel on the strings and that actually does help to ring out the notes better. sort of like the scalloped effect. where as Yngwie Malmsteen says, YOU CAN REALLY GRAB THE STRING BY THE BALLS AND MAKE THOSE NOTES SING.. : / The other corrections i wanted to make for you are your comments on the thinner string gauge on the fender. This really is not an issue. Whenever you buy a new guitar? you will always make it your own. you string it with the strings you have been using on other guitars obviously! You change tuners, if you want to. You change pick ups if you want to. You can change the color of the pick guard, you can even take out that first volume knob right under the bridge pick up, and leave just a volume and tone under there! ITS ALL UP TO YOU! IN FACT, THIS IS WHY EVERYONE WHO IS A SERIOUS GUITARIST? SHOULD BE GOING TO WARMOTH.COM TO BUILD THEIR OWN CUSTOM GUITAR FOR A LITTLE LESS THAN ANY GOOD STORE BOUGHT OR NAME BRAND GUITARS COST! AND YOU CAN CHOOSE ALL YOUR WOODS, ROUTING, CONTROLS, NECK PROFILE, NECK RADIUS, BRIDGE ORIENTATION ( WHICH BRIDGE SET UP YOU WANT TO HAVE ) ETC..... The fretboard radius is what makes the NJ feel wider. The NJ has a 14" radius, whereas the Player Strat is 9.5". I have 5 Strats and the Atomic Frost NJ SSS. I cannot feel a difference but then I have XL hands, the length of my hand is not that common for a male (long fingers and thumb). The NJ has a thinner profile neck, just a wide radius. That's what makes it feel bigger in hand. Most speed playing necks have a wider fretboard radius and thinner neck profile. Very common since the 80's when Shred was prevalent, except in Malmsteen's case. Lol
I just stumbled across this video and I had to comment to say the guitar tones used in this video are fantastic. Can you let us know what is being used?
Two Nobs is the correct amount. Fender has been getting Strat tone Controls wrong for 60+ years. For an S-style its better to have either a single global Tone OR one for the middle & neck plus a dedicated one for the bridge. To have two for the the middle and neck but NOT one for the bridge where it actually matters is pretty ridiculous. I rewired my tone for global/all pickups and move the volume + tone nobs down to the edge of the pick guard where both tones used to be leaving the spot for the volume nob empty to make room as I thought it was too close to the strings.
I got this guitar and I have an intonation issue, I did everything under heaven to resolve it and it did not resolve, went to the shop I got it , the man worked on it and said he needs a few days to fix It , I bought this just for 1 week today I decided to ask him to change it for me , still waiting for his response:(

I like the schecters tapered neck joint. What I dont like about many schecters are the color choices. The have like 100s of guitars that all look the same with dreary boring colors and some like this one in silly toyish colors. Be nice if the had this one in some more interesting and classy colors. G&L and Godin offers s guitars in nicer colors. Nice playing by the way.
In my opinion this happens due to the 500k volume pot that schecter uses in conjuction with one 250k tone pot.
