For those interested in some Portuguese quirks it's not uncommon for older people to mention baby Jesus (menino Jesus) instead of Santa Claus (Pai Natal) as the present provider. Along the tree, lights, the works it's also very common to have the nativity scene (presépio) as a decoration. In fact it is the most traditional Portuguese decoration. A lot of people even collect those (my mother for exemple owns dozens of several shapes, styles, sizes and materials. Portuguese people also love to compound greetings (and get it over with...) just like Liz brilliantly did near the end. So... Feliz Natal e bom Ano Novo para todos :D.

Olá Liz. We just returned from Lisbon and we absolutely loved it! Many people told me not to bother learning any Portuguese, because "everyone speaks English." None the less, I listened to your most common 100 words video (many times 😉) as well as using the Quizlet flashcards for about three weeks prior to our visit. The very first restaurant that we stopped at, a Bifana place in the middle of Baixa, I asked "Fala inglês?" only to receive a very simple "Não." in return. It was not the only time that this happened, but thanks to your videos I was able to order our food and drink in very simple Portugeuse. And the Portuguese people are so pleased if you simply try to speak a few words in Portuguese! Most of the Portuguese we interacted with spoke at least rudimentary English, and many spoke excellent English. We're planning a return to Lisbon and Porto in the spring, so I'll keep on studying your videos, as time permits, as I'm also learning Italian at the moment. Muito obrigado, e Feliz Ano Novo!
