My dude, this was so incredibly helpful. I knew this game would be a beast, but I knew I could figure out with your help. Your video tutorials/playthroughs are the best out there.
Very cool review! But the mine that you placed at 2:09:30 (the one you received for your first feudum) is a sulphur mine, so it should generate yellow stuff, not food :)
Thank you. Just got my hand on a copy a few days ago. Watched the half hour tutorial from odd bird games. But it left me pretty clueless on many details and especially a good way to teach the game. Watched through your video and it helped a ton to understand the flow of the game and a rough way to teach it to my group. Thanks again.
Really missing your reviews. I know there are other reviewers on UA-cam but your format and detail is very much missed. I completely respect your reasons for not continuing with the reviews but selfishly I hope to see a them return🤞😎
Thanks for the detailed play through! Very high praise to your attention to detail, I'd say that even the mistakes helped me because it made me realize rule clarity without reading the rulebook yet. I understood why some things were wrong and how often things can get lost in the mix while doing the admin. Looking forward to the new edition and to get this game to the table, which will definitely be easier now after watching your video!
Thanks for the run-through, Jon, that was quite an undertaking! 2:28:03 You said "7 points... 67 and that takes them to 75", you meant "68". 2:38:40 You said "Red is going to go to 71", you meant "74". Minor points, I know. Thanks for showcasing the game so well!
Hands down, this is the best play through for learning the game. When I introduce the game to new players I always give them this link in advance to watch.
That's a pretty big commitment for a group of 4 people to watch a nearly 3 hour long video for a game. I think it is enough If one person watches the video. An rules explanation this way shouldn't take more than 30-40 minutes. Even this is enough to digest for most game groups...
@@Brezel85 You're in luck then! I often suggest this video as the best rules teach. Because it is. Why? Because you can view just the "first 30-40 minutes" and have a good enough grasp of the rules to start a game. As always, however, it is always recommended that at least one person has a complete command of the rules. If you have four people playing for the first time then I'd still recommend this video, but watching for at least an hour of it. I have reviewed all of the play-through videos on Feudum and so far I have yet to see a better one than this one.
I once did this by myself, in order to create several different rules and game scenarios, so I could have a better view of the game and explain it better. Bookeeping x4 was tiring. Great video and thanks for the undertaking.
Thank you very much for this very good detailed video! I've backed feudum in March19 with the expansion Rudders and Ramparts. Can't wait to get it in December19!!! This Game is really great.
This is one of the best play through for a game that needs it like no other. This just really made my 100 dollar investment in Feudum worth it so I went and became a Patreon. You do great work sir, keep it up!
Great job Jon! I've had this game since the Kickstarter delivered and was just contemplating selling it unplayed because it was just so daunting to learn and teach. I just couldn't wrap my head around the rules. After watching your playthrough it has finally clicked, and I'm actually really excited to play it now, as all of the mechanics look really cool. Maybe a little overkill in places, but unique nonetheless. Keep up the great work!
Hey Jon! Great video! One correction, though. At 1:19:30, active regions are only those where you rule a location or where you have a landscape-tending serf. Only a serf, without a tended landscape doesn't count to active regions (rulebook, p. 21) (it doesn't affect the scoring, in that exact case, though)
That was an amazing playthrough, Jon! Wow! Now off to find a solo playthrough to decide if I think my brain could handle playing this alone as I doubt highly any of my gaming groups or friends would be up for it.
Just wanted to reiterate a comment down below: green player should have received 12 points at the end - not 9 (6 spots + 2 sets of three). Other than that, what an amazing job! I only subscribe to one channel on UA-cam and it’s yours. Keep up the great work and thanks for all the playthroughs.
Man, these playthroughs are amazing. I enjoy them much more than reviews and helps us decide for ourselves if we like the game or not. Just a suggestion, when you commit mistakes throughout the game, I don't feel you need to add those banners splashed across the whole video. They are distracting and you may find other mistakes after the videos are posted anyways. I would suggest using the UA-cam subtitles for that. This would spare you a lot of work and would make your videos more clean and enjoyable. Keep up the amazing work!
I can see where you are coming from, but I know that far less than half of viewers are turning the subtitles on which means they wouldn't see the corrections and potentially learn incorrect rules or get confused when I do something that doesn't make sense and isn't annotated.
Nice playthrough Jon, thanks! 2 things I think are still incorrect though... 1. Using the bonus action to take a fifth card does not have to be done at the start of the round (as far as I can tell). This gives you a lot more strategic options to take a card when needed... 2. When using the Improve action you can trigger the next epoch (this should have happened at 1:07:05 and again at 1:40:13). Question: if you have no food, no epoch tiles, no money, no farms and no pawns (admittedly a bad position, but not impossible), is there anything you can do to get back in the game? Even with a farm it is random whether or not you will get the food necessary to migrate another pawn onto the board :/
Hey there Jerry, I don't think either of these things were done wrong. The rules specifically state "During card selection, you may play a saltpeter or sulfur good to gain a bonus during this round" so I do believe you must make this decision while selecting cards. When it comes to checking for epoch changing, the rules state this happens as Step 4 of a round where the actions take place in Step1. Regarding your last question, I do think it would be incredibly hard to get back into the game :-\
Huh, I bet you are right. I’m not near my copy of the game but it did seem odd to have two different food images. I’ll double check and make a correction in the Klingon subtitles if this is true. Thanks!
Looks like it also affects the landscape that the green player puts out at 2:09, if you're making Klingon edits. :o) Thanks for the playthrough ... I always learn so much about how to process the game by watching your content. And I really needed this for Feudum!
Just for a quick reference, it is indeed a sulfur mine and you can find that at page 11 of the rulebook, in the leftmost info box. Great job overall on the run by the way, this must have been a monster to tackle!
I'm sorry to disappoint here, but I can use this as an example of a game I would likely never actually get a review for anyway. It's so long and I'd likely not get it to the table enough times within a timeframe where people are interested in it to actually get the review done. I've honestly found myself enjoying playing games more since I decided to stop reviewing them, I am spending less energy picking them apart and now simply having fun with them more.
While I miss your reviews there are a hundred reviewers out there. You and Ant Lab are the only places where I can go to make an educated decision on a game. I love all the board game sites but you and Ant Lab are my two go to channels. If you do more run throughs because you aren't reviewing it's great by me. Just my 2c....your reviews were great though.
Hi Jon, Ones again a big up for your teaching of this really big game 😃 We played twice with 3 players, interaction is so huge in this game, terrific ! 🥰 Another big game we would like to try : Food Chain Magnate. Already played ? Did you like it ?
Would love at least a closing section where you informally talk about how much you liked the game or not. Rahdo tends to do that on his playthroughs. Might not be as concise as your old reviews, but at least it would give you a chance to communicate if you liked a game & if you think a game is worth purchasing or not.
I can see why you'd want this, but I feel like this is an ethical conflict I can't do because I was paid by the publisher to make the video. I do give my opinion on the games I play in my monthly Impressions vlog, but try to stay as objective as possible in playthroughs.
Good point. You could, perhaps, do it for playthroughs that aren't paid, and label your playthroughs as paid or not paid on the videos graphics and/or in the headers.. On the other hand, as long as you continuing doing your monthly impressions vlog, and make sure to cover any games you've done playthroughs for during that month, at least you can still cover your impressions of everything you've played that way. I'll make sure to keep looking for the impressions vlogs!
I've considered being more subjective in non-paid playthroughs but ultimately I think I'd prefer consistency when it comes to these types of coverage. I do talk about all the published games I play with other people in my impressions vlog, but won't generally talk about the game yet if I only played it against myself in a playthrough setting and/or if it is a prototype version of the game.
A tiny typo in the first timestamp skip text, it said "0:5" instead of "0:55". Annoying, but I felt it was worth a re-render and re-upload even though it pushed the publication back by a full day due to my work schedule and the time those things take.
Are we to assume you like these games you are playing? Like Radho, who doesn’t do runthroughs on anything unless he likes it? Or are you also doing play throughs of games you don’t like? I definitely miss your reviews. You had the best, most helpful and organized reviews and it is a shame you gave them up. Personally, I would not watch this walk-through to get an idea if I like the game or not. I would much rather have a short video highlighting the pros and cons. What is the point of building up trust in the community as far as your opinion goes and then deciding not to give an opinion anymore? Counterproductive.
I wouldn't say that you can assume I like or even recommend every game I make a playthrough for, but as part of my selection process I do make sure that I find at least part of them to be interesting. For instance I don't enjoy "dudes on a map" style games, but I wouldn't say no to making a playthrough about a game with that mechanic based on that alone. I am still giving my opinions out in the monthly impressions vlog, I simply had to cut the review part of out my life because it was slowly killing my enjoyment of board games and I'd have to have them do permanent damage to my enjoyment of my favorite things to do. I never planned to stop making reviews at some point, I simply made them for 4 years and then after a cold hard look at how they affected my life I decided I needed to stop making them. I may change my mind in the future, but for now it has absolutely been beneficial to my mind-state when it comes to making content as well as simply playing games.
Taking on Feudum for a full playthrough?! You're a beast.
Seriously, so much admin.
I watched the whole thing without ever even hearing of this game. Wow was this entertaining!
My dude, this was so incredibly helpful. I knew this game would be a beast, but I knew I could figure out with your help. Your video tutorials/playthroughs are the best out there.
So glad you did this play through! I can barely figure out my own moves, I can't imagine the preparation to play more players at once and by yourself!
One of your most impressive playthroughs, must have been hard to make :)
Very cool review! But the mine that you placed at 2:09:30 (the one you received for your first feudum) is a sulphur mine, so it should generate yellow stuff, not food :)
Thanks for all the great videos Jon! Loving the increased number of playthroughs!
Thank you. Just got my hand on a copy a few days ago.

I appreciate your amazing work! This way I'll have an image of the game before starting the first play.
This was really excellent, wanted to compliment you on the explanation and teach. Keep up the amazing work!
This is sheer madness... how many hours of recording and editing went into this? I can't even...
This one was easily my largest project, it looks like it took 16.5 hours to record it and another 7 hours to edit the video.
Hands down, this is the best play through for learning the game. When I introduce the game to new players I always give them this link in advance to watch.
That's great to hear, thanks!

Same happens at 2:31:31?
Yeah, I think all corrections can be found at the BGG video post!
Yeah thanks for pointing these out. I've added notes about these already, you should be able to see them by turning on the Klingon Subtitles.
That was an amazing playthrough, Jon! Wow! Now off to find a solo playthrough to decide if I think my brain could handle playing this alone as I doubt highly any of my gaming groups or friends would be up for it.

Phenomenal work as always Jon. Thank you!
Woohoo! I just bought this game a few days ago. Can't wait to watch this.

Savage play through sir.
At 37:10, it's not the locations that have an S on them, but the locations depicted on the card.

No problem! Love your content and I'm glad if I can make even the smallest contribution :)
really miss your reviews bro... this game beg for that cool methodolgy of positive points, neutral points, negative points and all the other things
Bruno Henrique Agreed. This was my favourite channel for boardgame reviews. Maybe in time it will return😉
I'm sorry to disappoint here, but I can use this as an example of a game I would likely never actually get a review for anyway. Gave green 9 points instead of 12 for wide empire scoring, 6 locations and 2 sets = 12
Quite the undertaking for a single person.
Thanks for pointing that out, I've added a note into the klingon subtitles.
Very helpful, thanks!
This is not a video, it's freckin' FEUDUM UNIVERSITY, and I'm just graduated, bitchaaazzz!!! Thanx, Jon, 4 the AMAZING job!!!
Haha, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I certainly felt like I got a degree in the game just to be able to record this thing :P
the landscape that you have put at the hour 02:09:00 don't generate food but sulfur
Thanks for pointing this out, I've added a note into the klingon subtitles.

the influenze token you take with the monster must be put on the symbol of the monster in the guild not with the monster.
they don't quite come to this land with nothing on their pocket.
I don’t quite understand why there’s a secondary status in a guild..... is it necessary to have a pawn of that guild for that status to matter?
Unfortunately it has been too long since I played the game / made the video to remember specifics like this to answer your question, sorry :-\
Jon do you have a date for the release of the Tang Garden playtrough? Thx
Hoping for next Tuesday, possibly 2 days after that if things go slow.

I guess i missed something, Jon isn’t producing reviews? Just play throughs... or is he ending both?
I stopped making reviews last June and I am now focusing more on creating new playthroughs as well as vlog style content :)
Interesting but too much to keep track of in guild scoring.
What prompted the re-upload? :)
A tiny typo in the first timestamp skip text, it said "0:5" instead of "0:55". Annoying, but I felt it was worth a re-render and re-upload even though it pushed the publication back by a full day due to my work schedule and the time those things take.
BTW, how many cameras do you use?
I only have one camera, it's a Vixia HF G40 that I have on a movable mount to get all the different shots.
Wow!
How do you teach this game!? Haha
Patiently :P
