  • This is how to easily remove the DB Killer from your Akrapovic exhaust. With many exhausts it's obvious how to remove the baffle/ DB Killer, but not so much with the Akrapovic slip on, but it is really easy to do and takes just a few simple tools. This is on the gen 2 KTM Duke, but it is the same on many other Akrapovic exhausts. Baffle width is 53mm.
    Akrapovic baffle part number is: K93505999055
    For aftermarket baffles I used these www.pipewerx.co.uk/webshop/ac...
    Thanks to @Morten Hansen we now know that the 2020 Akrapovič exhaust retaining bolt has now had a spot weld to keep it in place. This will need to be cut to release the bolt - thanks for the update Morten.

With the bolt removed then the db killer can be pulled out - but it will be a bit stuck in normally so will take some effort.

    Hey, Nice video! I recently bought the Akrapovic slip on line, for my ktm rc 125. But the sound is so small because of the catalyst. Where can i find a intermidate for this exhaust?

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  4 роки тому +1

      Assuming it's the same as the Duke exhaust, you can buy just a cat replace pipe but most of the sound is blocked in the presilencer not the cat. ua-cam.com/video/Jx8-hhV2P48/v-deo.html The pipes are easily available if you search. I think Leovince do a cat only delete - but I can't guarantee that they fit the RC. Skäl David

    What would be the best and safe option to get a better sound on duke 125 2022 without changing air/fuel ratio. I dont have rapid bike evo and i dont want to destroy the eingne

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  Рік тому

      Depends which version of bike you have - KTM were rolling out an emissions update around this time. But KTM note that you can fit the Akrapovic slip on without any change to the air/fuel ratio. Very likely a similar slip on will also be OK. 'Better sound' is very subjective so I can't help you with that. The safest option is to add something like a FuelX Lite (not pro) and then decat to achieve the best sound.

    Hey David, great video. I really enjoy your content.
    Question regarding the db: if you were to leave it in there - how would you modify the existing dB killer? Drill one hole? Two? Or cut it down and if so would you leave the end plate on or not? Thanks!

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks. The answer is all of the above depending on what you want to do. I want the stock DB killer so I can use that. I already have an alternate DB killer - they are easily bought on eBay etc. I intend to buy another - this is much cheaper than buying Akra ones to modify, which will be louder. There is a balance in doing this - the more free flowing (holes, no end plate, shorter) then the louder but also the less back pressure if you have a decat which can hurt performance - so it depends on what you want to achieve. I will be making a video to explain this. Skäl David

      Pipewerx do them in the UK, but you will need to buy one of their generic db killers in the right size. I've run two different Pipewerx db killers in this exhaust - the only disadvantage is that they don't have the slash cut like the stock Akra ones.

  • @Fuchs1337
    @Fuchs1337 3 місяці тому

    Hello, quick question - the 125ccm KTM duke, and many other 125ccm bikes got a small disk between exhaust and pipe, its to "weaken" the engine. IF you remove this disk - does the engine needs to be new configurated to make it run smooth to the new exhaust flow? I mean, the disk almost covers the whole pipe, its only 5mil to let the gas out

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  3 місяці тому +1

      Hi, with the KTM, it's partly because the exhaust parts are the same as the 390. The issue is that the 125 is only putting 1/3 of the volume of gas into the same pipe as the 390 and part of engine tuning is to use the exhaust to help suck out the combustion gases from the chamber, assisting in sucking the new fuel air mix into the chamber for combustion. If you do remove or reduce the constrictor then yes, you should add more fuel since there will be more air flow.

    Hi again😁 Heard that removing the db killer when using the akrapovic on the duke 390 can harm your engine if you don't have a piggyback. But I have also heard that this I not true at all. • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  3 роки тому +2

      Hi and thanks. The reason you hear both is because it depends on many factors including where you live and what if any influence that has on the stock mapping. My rule of thumb is that any one change away from stock is normally OK for most people. Once you start to make more than that you need to start considering a piggyback. Generally I think most people are OK with the db killer out of the Akra - a lot of people just stick on slip ons that have no baffles, but you'd be safer with at least one of the basic piggybacks just to be sure.

      @@wokeavocado2199 A piggyback is a device which sits between the engine sensors and the bike ECU - it fools the ECU into providing more fuel to avoid lean running. There are laws which cap the amount of fuel the bike ECU can add - this is fine when you have a stock bike, but not when you need more fuel because you have modified the bike - doesn't mean it breaks the emissions laws, though it may. More advanced piggybacks can also change the ignition mapping to improve power
