Making the Akrapovic DB Killer Baffle Removable KTM Duke 390 125 200 250

- Whilst I love the Akrapovic slip on on the Duke 390 exhaust, I'm not a fan of the need to remove the the end cap every time I want to change out the DB killer, so in this video I'm modifying the exhaust so that I can quickly change or remove the DB killer whenever I want and without damaging the end can - in the way that Akapovic originally intended.
If you wish to attempt this without removing the end cap then the measurements are: 28mm out from the steel band, 5mm down from the centre of the rivet. Your exhaust may not be exactly the same so drill a small hole first and do this at your own risk - I recommend taking the cap off and getting it right. Short cuts don't always end well.

I don't have a KTM but have an exhaust of BMW G310 R, but I got an idea for it from your video. Thanks mate.
Nice. Always good to see people thinking outside of the box. Skäl David
Thank you from France for the video ! I wanted to do the same (390cc 2019) but i noticed that i can see the screw from the outside by a tiny gap between the exit tube and the carbon so i just tried to find the exact location to drill the hole and it was perfect , without removing any rivet and it looks brand new! I just hope to not drop the screw inside if i put it back 😅
Good job! The end cap is an expensive part if you drill the hole in the wrong part, so it's great that you gamble paid off!
David you are the man 😎
Brand new Akrapovic for my Duke arrived today, Used you’re measurements for where to make the hole and worked perfect( was a right gamble as wasn’t sure if it had changed since you’re upload) was lucky enough to brake the weld on the 8mm bolt with ease and db killer slipped right out and goes back on with no issues :) was expecting to have a tough time removing this after watching lots of videos but was a walk in the park, Saw you comment somewhere about would be nice to know if measurement worked for anyone so I can confirm works perfect for the newest Akrapovic slip on for the duke 👊
Well done! Good to hear that the measurements were right and that the weld was easy enough to break. Nice and thanks!
X2. I Did it right now with a new one, and was perfect 💯 03/2022

Hi! Great videos. It it possible to do a video with brake pad changes. Thanks
Yes, I will be making a brake video. I don't need to change my pads but it is a good service check. Thanks for the suggestion. Skäl David
Hey David good show brother 👍🏻☮❤
Hi Springy. Bit of a wallet twitcher, this one. I don't know how much Akra charge for a new carbon end cap, but I bet it isn't cheap! Hope you are still well. Skäl David
@@MotoMirius all good here ! gotta go to work sat Sun mon, big hole in one of the boilers gotta be making electric by mon night . 👍🏻☮❤
Hey David! Can you please make a video of the duke 390 with the LeoVince decat and Akrapovic muffler without the baffle? I am currently owning a Duke 390 with the Akrapovic muffler without the baffle. But I still have the stock catalyst, and I wonder how loud this is going to be, because I'm not satisfied with the volume of the Akrapovic. Personally I would like it alot louder^^
Thanks in advance, keep up the good work and stay safe!
Hey Jonas and thanks. I would make a video but there is no way I can record the sound without standing at least 30m from the bike - any closer than that and the sound just goes over the upper limit of the microphone. If I were to run without a baffle, then I would be pulled over by the police every day. Removing the cat and presilencer will make your bike much louder. Once I can ride my bike again I will be making a video about the ways to make the bike louder. I might see if I can record the sound without baffle - but for a true comparison I would need to also do it with stock exhaust on. Skäl David
Can confirm it these measurements also work on a 2022 RC390 Akrapovic slip-on.
Don’t be like me and only notice the 4mm Allen head and try and fail to crack the spot weld with that. The bolt is also an 8mm head and a socket cracked the weld easily.
I don't have a 22 to check. But as far as I'm aware the only differences in the slip on is the baffle and the link pipe, all the other parts seem the same, so I'd say there is a good chance the measurements are the same. I bet you aren't the only one to try the allen! I've had to remove the end cap because it was strongly welded on one.
Great video, can you please indicate the position of the hole in cm ?
Check the description
Did this to mine akrapovic in the same bike. Im thinking about drilling out the catalytic converter for getting a little bit of more response and power to high revs+a deeper sound.
You can buy a pipe which replaces just the cat and leaves the pre-silencer in place, such as the one by Competition Werkes but most people just dump both cat and presilencer. Drilling out the cat can be problematic to your health unless you take the appropriate precautions. Skäl David
@@MotoMirius Oh, okay, but what I searched I didnt find werkes from Europ and with customs payment and delivery the price is higher than 89$. Also I think drilling is safe, atleast I did for my moped when I was at the age of 15.
Just for the record - drilling is not safe. Just because you haven't died yet from doing it when you were 15 doesn't mean that you haven't triggered cancerous cells that will catch up with you in twenty years time.
Big fan india Kerala,😘😍😍
Thanks! Skäl David
thanks for the video, I have a question. do u know if the akrapovic for 2017/2020 duke 390 fits on the 2021/22 model? thanks!
Good question. I suspect the slip on is likely the same unit. But the link pipe on the BS6 models is different as the exit pipe on presilencer is the old gen 1 slip fit design and larger than the gen 2. So not a straight swap, but if you had a BS6 link pipe then maybe.
Hi great video. If my akrapovic already has that rubber plug, does that mean I don’t need to drill out my rivets to get the baffle out? I removed the Allen bolt and gave it a good tug, maybe I just wasn’t pulling hard enough?
It is an older akrapovic for my 07 Husaberg
If you have the plug you are good to do. Newer Akras have a spot weld on the bolt to prevent removal - yours shouldn't have but check. If your exhaust is old I'm guessing you just have a corrosion problem. Skäl David
Thanks for getting back to me I’ll give it a try
Hi do you have a link of the other db killer you are using? I want the sound to be louder but i thinks its gonna be way to loud when i remove the db killer. So your idea to use another louder db killer sounds very good
I don't recall the size off the top of my head but this is the link www.pipewerx.co.uk/webshop/accessories/db-killers-baffles/
1:10 how to seperate akra like this pls??
Mine is stack and i cannot split it in 2 pieces like in your video
It is just stuck from carbon build up and some corrosion. It will come apart, it will just take some time to work it free.
i would like to do that but i need a new end cap for that exhaust where i can find one ?
Akrapovič only supply parts to KTM (for KTM exhausts) so talk to a KTM dealer - they should be able to order one for you. Skäl David
Great Video! Could anyone tell me, if you could just remove the screw to get an easier removal ?
I was hoping that the tight fit would keep the DB Killer in place, so i could remove the db killer without any tool on the fly.
I wouldn't risk it. With vibration as the bike runs and pressure from the exhaust gases you risk losing it somewhere on the road. And it's an expensive part to buy again from KTM.
Okay, then im not gonna try it. Thanks!@@MotoMirius
Hey, could you make a video about changing the Sparkplug on this bike?
I will be making that video and hopefully shortly. But if you use the tank removal video you will find it easy enough - most people find it very hard to change the plug without removing the tank. Skäl David
@@MotoMirius yes but I don't know about the gapping etc
@@MotoMirius but still, thanks for looking into it
David did you ever have a problem of your bike you are moving and you hold the clutch then down shift all of a sudden motor went out!?then the oil light turned on.
If the engine isn't running then it's normal for the oil light to come on, though it shouldn't come on immediately - without the engine turning, there isn't oil pressure which is what the light warns about. Engine stalling under heavy braking with downshifts can happen - the engine is easy to stall. In my experience, it's almost always because I haven't pulled the clutch in enough and goes away when I get used to riding this bike again - bigger bikes don't stall the engine as easily. Skäl David
@@MotoMirius that's what happens IAM going on a turn then it happened.
Thanks 👍🇺🇸

Where I can buy that rivets and new endcap?
End cap from your KTM dealer. Rivets from your hardware supplier.
Make a video for Duke 200 bs6 exhaust modify
It's the same exhaust modification. Skäl David
@@MotoMirius can we replace the exhaust for duke 200 bs6
KTM sell one for that bike so yes.
Hi, i’ve the same exhaust akrapovic, can you tell me the measurements from the center of the rivet to the center of the hole?
I will be taking the exhaust off soon so I will see what I can do. Of course it assumes that they are all identical - and the newer ones have a weld on the bolt so need the cap removed anyway. Skäl David
Moto Mirius thanks the same, I just finished making the hole, I confirm that the new ones have a weld on the bolt but with a little force you can break evenly, sorry for any grammatical errors, I use google translator
@@andreaguerrieri9590 Thanks Andrea, great to hear that the weld can be broken!
The screw to remove the db killer is welded in the Exhaust. What can i do?
This is normal on the newer exhausts. Some have success by putting a socket on it and breaking the weld, but I would recommend using file/hacksaw/ cutting wheel to cut the weld before doing this. Good luck! Skäl David
Moto Mirius Thank you!
Hi mate... I need your help, do u need any ecu mods if I change my exaust? I'm running the stock catalytic converter still.
It depends what you mean by changing your exhaust. If you are running a stock exhaust with cat and presilencer and are just changing the slip on part of the exhaust, then normally you won't need any other changes. But if you intend fitting something very short and high flow you should give thought to fitting one of the basic piggybacks. Skäl David
@@MotoMirius it's very short it's just a slip on, basically just a hollow tube only weighs 1kg, I've kept the stock cat on the bike, it's a duke 125 2019 model.
@@MotoMirius so basically I've got the stock cat just replaced the slip on with one that is short and is just a hollow tip, here is the link to it
www.ebay.co.uk/c/2178092808
@@kieranroberts1466 With that I would consider using a piggyback. You might get away with not using one but engine rebuilds are quite expensive so it can be a good idea to play safe. Something entry level is fine, just to make sure it adds a bit more fuel.
@@MotoMirius okay thank you so much, its really appreciated, I'll get my self a piggy back ordered today.
I have an akropovic in my KTM 690 since 2013 and they came already with that hole although i cant take it of de DB killer , is really stuck... some tips ???
If you have a bolt that has been in an exhaust for seven years, it will be corroded in place. Try all the usual methods - soak with penetrating oil repeatedly over time especially after rides when it's heated (careful of fire!), heat etc. You might need to drill out the rivets and take the end cap off so you can get in there with proper tools. Good luck. Skäl David
Moto Mirius the bolt came out easy , the dB is stuck , already put wd40 and waited... i gonna try take the akropovic out and force by the end ...
Moto Mirius , my intencional is to put a better DB killer , it’s already to loud to my age 😂
690 Duke R , kit Cup with direct line
@@xalo80 I recommend a blind bearing puller with a slide hammer, or some other form of expanding bolt to get a grip of the inside of the DB killer
Do you know what size rivets you need?
Measure the ones you have on there, mine had already been replaced so I don't know what size the originals were.
Did find the exact measurements for this? Want to order them, but cant find anything that fitt with my measurements. Thanks.
what size are the rivets?
Mine didn't have the stock rivets in it so I always recommend that you remove one rivet, measure and try to find something similar - I find it isn't always easy to find the same size even when you know what you are looking for, so find the closest you can - these are not precision fit.
Where can i buy the same black rivets?
They are just black pop rivets and you can buy them much cheaper than you buy them from a KTM dealer - just measure yours and look online.
@@MotoMirius Do you know the size of these rivets? I'm not sure if it's diameter 3 mm, length 8mm
A source I have used before suggests they are D: 3.2mm x L: 8mm@@sennehaccuria7436
@Moto Mirius
Hey david, i wanne do the same to my exhaust can you send me the dimensions i need to drill te hole. So i don't need to take the end cap off. tanks!
Jordy is that possible?
Yes, it is possible, and yes, with new Akrapovič exhausts the cap will need to be removed so that the spot weld on the bolt can be cut. These are things that Akrapovič are doing to comply with Euro 4. I can see a time where new exhausts will not be possible to modify, but I don't think we are there yet and I think it most likely to happen first with new bikes where the exhaust is designed that way. The dealer will be obliged by Euro 4 to tell you it is not possible, but do not confuse talking to a salesman at the Dealer with talking to a technician at the Dealer! Skäl David
@@thommievalie5725 oe dat is geen goed nieuws dan... Ik zou er dan beter afblijven en het zo laten dan
@Moto Mirius hey, i want to do the same with my exhaust, could you send med the dimensions i need to drill the hole? Thanks!:)
You need a magnet to fit the screws properly without stress..
A magnet is a good solution. Skäl David
Wouldn't it have been easier to rotate the Akrapovic baffle 90 deg., so the the hole was on the top of the muffler and drill your holes there. Then you'd be able to remove/replace the baffle easily, without removing the muffler.
Yes, absolutely you could do that, especially if you aim to do it frequently. But this is where Akra puts it, so it's replicating where the plug was before they removed it to comply with emissions regs. You can get to it where it is but it is a little fiddly, and I'm often running a different muffler so it's a bit catch 22 as they are easy to remove.
Having just removed the baffle, I realised that I'd forgotten a couple of points. You can easily remove and replace the baffle with it on the bike with the hole in the the stock location - but, and this would be an issue with a hole of top, it's easy to drop the bolt or washer whilst reinstalling which means taking the silencer off anyway - you'd be best putting the hole at the bottom to overcome this. Also the KTM baffle is slash cut so it only fits in one position, so you could only move the mounting with an aftermarket baffle.
What kind and size rivets do you use?
When I bought the bike it did not have the original rivets, so measure the rivets on your bike and buy the same - they will be the best size. Skäl David
Why can't in 200??
You probably can - but they don't sell the 200 here. This applies to most of the new Akrapovič end cans, not just the small Dukes. Skäl David
