At the start the defender starts from 71k for the p300 but the tests the p400 which is well over the 100k price. Then the hero, woohoo can remove doors and roof but where do you put em and it’s illegal as mirrors come off too. The Raptor would be my choice.

No brainer that the Defender comes in at first place. The 110 P400 S variant is a whopping $145,000 (give or take a few) whereas the Raptor & Gladiator are below $100,000. For something that's $50,000 more expensive than it's competitors, it would be pretty embrarrassing for it to not be the best.
Yeah agreed. Though I was genuinely interested in the outcome as I'm tossing up between a Raptor and a Defender, you could buy a Rubicon AND a Raptor for the price of a mid-specced, optioned up Defender. Hmmmm, that might have made my decision for me.

Agreed! I've loved every second of my P300 110 S. Its not been bothered by anything I or the environment have thrown at it. No serious issues yet and the vehicle is just superb to drive. You can drive it harder than you'd ever think possible on and off road and its beyond up to it. Having an international 5 year Warranty and global recovery services covered by my dealer for 5 years is a nice peace of mind as well. It gets tons of love everywhere I take it. People take pictures, give the nod, walk up with questions and at least 50% of old defender drivers send love out on the road lol. Sure not everyone loves it, but its been a joy to majority of people out in the real world who see it. Its the biggest win for someone like me, who is not a defender of defenders and just want a great capable vehicle with a warranty and incredible livability.

I bought a Raptor from these guys review to then find the Raptor doesn’t have Adaptive Cruise Control…not even an option! Credibility of these guys clearly in question when they can’t take the time to research or test properly.
Defender is now built on Discovery 4/Range Rover platform so it has nothing from the original Defender. Don't get me wrong, I Iove the Discovery 4 which is one of the most capable offroad vehicles straight from factory and this new defender is marketed to a different segment of the market, $150k?
I've only just watched this video and I know that it's quite old, but I am astonished that the defender could have even been considered as a serious offroader. The fact is that it's technology is it's greatest weakness. There is no way in the world I would take this vehicle to anywhere that was more than a few hours from the closest repairer. You will not be able to join a group that crosses any Australian Desert. They just won't allow it to join because it will give everybody huge headaches when it breaks down. The most important thing by far with an off-roader is it a get you home.
Defender winning comes as no surprise. It’s streets ahead of the rivals. I knew before watching that that would be the indisputable result. The Ram on its highway tyres isn’t really an issue because if you’re buying one new you’d just make it a condition of sale to swap them for ATs etc. Ok so factory fitted are Highway but not relevant in real life except for testing as stock. Witches hats? They are called traffic cones. And don’t forget that the Defender can come with 7 seats too.
Where are you getting $70-$80k for the Gladiator? I almost bought a Rubicon fully loaded it was right at $60k. I guess with alot of after market add ons it will hit the $70k mark.

No. the Ranger and Gladiator are ladder on frame. The Maverick is not sold in Australia. We call everything with seating up front and a load down the back a ute. Except trucks, but trucks (cab over generally) are pretty easy to distinguish and exclude here. A RAM is called a ute, despite what it is referred to in the US.

They would pretty much all be called pickup trucks here, even the unibody versions (Maverick and Ridgeline). We do, or used to, get a more classic Australian style ute with the Subaru Baja. Nobody knew what to call it. Are all Rams considered utes? There is a lot of variation between a 1500 and a 5500. Same with Ford's F150 to F750. Thanks for any info that you can provide. Do you think the new landcruiser would be nimble round the track? Also they made a point of saying these cars were as sold not modified. It is surprising that there is not an offroad and overland component to this test. Reading between the lines they seem to be saying the wrangler would win the former and the raptor the later.
If you're going to do a review of best OFF ROAD vehicle can we please see the vehicles performing in real off road conditions?!! How do they perform up steep rocky tracks, through mud and rivers, up and down sand dunes etc including loaded with gear needed to go off road for a period of time. Comparing Land Rover to Ford and Jeep is like comparing BMW to a Toyota of the same class and wonder if they are similar...... 100k for a Ford raptor before on road, I would say Ford has refined the best way of separating people from their money. I must say the Jeep gladiator looks cool from outside and the price point isn't too bad, although if I was in the market for one, I would stick to a demonstrator and haggle the hell out of it, I also hate the fact its not Diesel. I have owned Ford and would stay away. Ford and Holden are money pits rearranged to look like a car.
The Gladiator has a 3L diesel as an option. At least here in the US it does. It's $4,200 though. If I was going that far I would go with the Ram 3500 SRW diesel.

Lol let’s test off road in a closed circuit course comparing trucks vs a suv. surprisingly a vehicle designed for the highway won the handling challenge….people aren’t buying these things to race down a track lol . My rubicon will go more places than the defender my cuz owns .. the raptor is faster for dirt racing but realistically how many are racing full speed … for me best all around off roader is the Jeep rubicon truck (it has a box) and it comes with recovery hitches for lesser vehicles like the defender lol

Now what was the title of this, i thought it was best off road SUV off the show room floor. Now i will say it again BEST OFF ROAD SUV OFF SHOW ROOM FLOOR. So why didn't we see a lot of off roading, more about where the Defender was better. Don't get me wrong, the Defender is properly a great all round 4WD, would have like to see these doing a lot more serious off road work and how far each got and how easy they did it, I still feel the Jeep Rubicon would have gone further and done it more easier off road, so it should have been the winner, but don't know.

Cheers for the review. Ranger Raptor with a different tyre be my choice. And maybe a front brake upgrade from Harrop Engineering. In saying that if I had deeper pockets I would not say no to a nearly 300kw Disco. I mean who makes in line sixes these days. Hard to beat for smoothness. Jeep Wrangler Rubicon's look grouse (Gladiator dimensions look strange, is it a limo?). But there are just too many horror stories. I know every car has their gremlins (I've owned a Ranger) but Fiat Chrysler arguably have the worst track record.
How many horror stories can you tell me about the Jeep Gladiators Rubicons. Just because another model had some issues 6 years ago doesn't make this one a horror story. So what you are saying Jeep keep building there cars with the same issues, never improve.

I have a 2019 150 series Prado worst car I have owned it's been on the back of a tow truck 3 times after going into limp mode. This is my 3 Prado had a 95 and 120 brilliant cars both of them have nothing but good things to say mind you they where both petrol a little bit thirsty but 100% reliable but this diesel piece of crap I have now is far from it

On the updated 150kw/500nm 2021 version of the 2.8d Toyota have replaced the dpf with a better design & changed car software to do regular burn offs aswell as a bigger turbo & some other engine improvements. I believe the issue is gone now.....

Agree bullshit review, did the test where the Defender was better, had there minds already made up.
Now what was the title of this, i thought it was best off road SUV off the show room floor. Now i will say it again BEST OFF ROAD SUV OFF SHOW ROOM FLOOR. So why didn't we see a lot of off roading, more about where the Defender was better. Don't get me wrong, the Defender is properly a great all round 4WD, would have like to see these doing a lot more serious off road work and how far each got and how easy they did it, I still feel the Jeep Rubicon would have gone further and done it more easier off road, so it should have been the winner, but don't know.
Ok...Defender wins...fine if deep wallet and can accept Land Rover's legendary reliability issues..

This wasn't a test for the best all rounder, it was the test for the best SUV off road from the show room floor, the Jeep would win this hands down.
Till it breaks down. I choose something like a mercedes g class to kick that money pit. Merc by the way is the most reliable vechiles after volvo cars

Lol, Defenders on fkn road tyres. Of course its going to win on the road track + interior features. But you put carry ability + off road + say double black tracks and rhe Raptor will kill it. Followed by the Gladiator. Stick some atv tyres on it maybe different story. Now we’re talking different strokes for different folks…..Jeep for rock crawling, Defender for mall crawling, plus you can take it bush if you want, and the Raptor, well it can do it all…plus you can jump it. Thats the facts.

Ranger Raptor with a different tyre be my choice. And maybe a front brake upgrade from Harrop Engineering.
In saying that if I had deeper pockets I would not say no to a nearly 300kw Disco. I mean who makes in line sixes these days. Hard to beat for smoothness.
Jeep Wrangler Rubicon's look grouse (Gladiator dimensions look strange, is it a limo?). But there are just too many horror stories. I know every car has their gremlins (I've owned a Ranger) but Fiat Chrysler arguably have the worst track record.
How many horror stories can you tell me about the Jeep Gladiators Rubicons. Just because another model had some issues 6 years ago doesn't make this one a horror story. So what you are saying Jeep keep building there cars with the same issues, never improve.

I have a 2019 150 series Prado worst car I have owned it's been on the back of a tow truck 3 times after going into limp mode. This is my 3 Prado had a 95 and 120 brilliant cars both of them have nothing but good things to say mind you they where both petrol a little bit thirsty but 100% reliable but this diesel piece of crap I have now is far from it

On the updated 150kw/500nm 2021 version of the 2.8d Toyota have replaced the dpf with a better design & changed car software to do regular burn offs aswell as a bigger turbo & some other engine improvements. I believe the issue is gone now.....
