The gathering of believers in a church building is about more than the worship during the service. I love fishing. But, I love to be a part of a fellowship encouraging and being encouraged. The purpose is to build each other up so that we can go into a world where we need to be built up. Do not forsake the gathering of believers. Fishing is not more edifying than that gathering. The song is cute though. IMHO. God bless either way.

Amen Wanda! Those are some of my fondest memories. My father and I spent the entire last weekend of his time on this earth at the lake. Most people don't understand that fishing isn't really about catching fish and religion ( in my case, being a Christian ) isn't about going to church.

I gave up church years ago. There is no need to attend church as long as you continue to pray, thank, and appreciate God for what he has given you. I was hurt by various ministry leaders, got very little support from anyone when I decided to run for office and they were making worship all about loud instruments and flashy lights. Never felt like anyone truly cared. After I left the only thing I heard from people was, "We miss you on Sunday mornings" or from the pastor, "When do you think you'll come back?" It never was, "How are doing?" or "How's your walk with the Lord these days?" They only acted like they cared if you were in their building on Sunday morning.
For Liberty I’m sorry to hear that. Yeah I find that no one really cares either. It’s all about an image and socializing, not about finding peace and love your mission for being here. Well I hope your doing better and have found what you’re looking for. Don’t let someone shame you into feeling like you have to go to church. Preachers are only human themselves. They make mistakes, sin, and judge people just like the rest of us. Therefore I don’t feel like their word and “preaching” should influence me anymore than anyone else’s. They’re just a human trying to figure this whole world out like the rest of us and therefore they don’t have some higher connection to God that allows them to teach us God’s message. They’re interpreting the Bible through their life experiences. You should read the Bible and pray and let God help you interpret the Bible and his message through prayer and the little signs that you receive from him through the day letting you know that he’s there for you and what you should do to better yourself and help others.

Be careful as feelings can mislead you. What matters is that you've acknowledged your a sinner in need of God's forgiveness and have put your faith in Christ's payment for your sin when he died on the cross and that you are living for Him everyday until he returns or takes you to be home with Him.

I got some heathen talk when my catholic teacher heard I was skipping 2 hour mass to catch a mass of striper. I was still on time to class every weekend, I was on my own Noah's ark. An hour a week in pure nature is better than 6 years of catholic school to believe in God. Confirmed, even in the eyes of the lord.

You should bring three or four Christian Brothers fishing with you. And you'll be having a bible study out there while fishing. God will be there with you. It says: Where two or three are gathered in my name I will be there with them. So you don't have to go to church to be with God. Read the bible. It's your ticket to heaven!!!
